Hi – I bought 5 round trip flights for August. We may now want to add a 6th person as my daughter may be able to bring a friend. Since she is only 13, I really can’t have her just buy her own ticket (which would have worked with the open seat policy). Is it possible to add her to my reservation? The price of the flights have gone up, so I don’t want to cancel and re-book the whole reservation. What are my options?

Can't her parents purchase her ticket on your flight? Why can't you just purchase a new ticket with a new confirmation number? She will have a separate confirmation number but would be able to sit with you.

That is what I originally thought I would do but she is only 13. Can her parents (or me) buy her a solo ticket at her age? Do they allow that?

An unaccompanied minor with Southwest is under 11, so she (or her parents or you) can purchase her ticket without any problems

You're purchasing a regular fare (Wanna Getaway), not a child's fare, so you can purchase a single ticket for her no questions asked.

I have the same question... but my neice is only 11.

Her mom doesn't know if she can take time off work yet and if she cannot how do I add her or purchase a ticket for her to come with us??

Thanks.

I would just try to buy the ticket as you do for an adult. I think, at one point in the booking process, because the DOB will indicate under 16, you will be asked if the passenger is an unaccompanied minor, just answer no. There may be a later prompt that will ask if an adult will be accompaning on the same flight - answer yes to that. I know I have had to answer those questions when booking my daughter on separate itineraries from us - which I used to do to allow for maximum flexibility should there be a fare change. But I don't remember how young she was at the time. If all else fails, call and book it so you can explain.

Everyone over 2 on SWA is an "adult" on SWA when you book online so you can just buy her a ticket. At 13 she could fly alone but of course she won't have to.

For the 11yo the same thing - I have booked my kids each on their own confirmation becuase we had credits and as long as they aren't actually flying alone you won't have to pay for an unacompanied minor.

Be careful though because even though you can cancel without a fee the only person who can use the credit is the passenger named on the ticket.
