Let me preface this by saying I am not trying to be mean.

We were watching the Olympics tonight when they showed Svetlana. My dad looks at her and says "she looks like an ostrich."

I looked and I think he's right When she is being reallly serious her face looks like one. And she certainly has the long skinny legs.

What do you think??

I think she looks anorexic. She is also a professional model

She does look like an ostrich, but I think the problem is her attitude. After she won silver in 2000 she ripped off her medal in disgust, that really turned me off.:(

My DH thought Svetlana was the hottest thing (after me, of course:) ) last Olympics, but now she is so rail thin. He calls her a "skinny legged rat". But he does still have a soft spot for her and roots her on. Funny thread!

I think she looks anorexic, too. Her legs are incredibly skinny, and not attractive IMO. I hope she isn't... though I'm sure eating disorders are rampid in such sports.

While I'm glad for Carly, I would have liked to see her win the gold. She's tall and skinny in a sport where smaller is better. I love to watch her move. Wish I could look like that. My son is pencil thin too.

She is 25 years old!!! I hope now that she's finished competing she'll go out & enjoy a cheeseburger. I can't imagine how thin she looks in person.

I thought she looked too skinny in the black outfit. Did you see her in the outfit she changed into for the medal ceremony? You could really see how scarily thin her arms and shoulders are.

Yes, way too thin, but I thought she was the model of sportmanship as she stood on the platform with her silver medal. This is supposedly her last Olympics and she showed a great deal of pride and composure and left like a true champion.

I called her a flamingo. Too thin. She is very good though. The other girls are so muscular I can see how they can do all the flips and jumps, but not her.

OMG! that's funny--we made the same exact comment about her resemblance to an ostrich at the start of the event! hahah... kind of coincidental... I agree that she left like a champion, her normally stern facial expressions led me to believe that she might throw a fit if she didn't win gold! But Carly did deserve the gold as she did perform the best--and even the commentators felt that Svetlana's scores were overly generous. I too hope she will gain a few pounds, though. Regardless, she is an amazing gymnast and this was an amazing competition as well!

I would have been disgusted too given the circumstances under which she earned that silver. It was heartbreaking and infuriating watching the clips from Sydney.

She is thin but still undeniably beautiful. She seems to have a deep passion for her sport, her country and her place in both. I thought she ended the evening graciously.

She really does look SO painfully thin. Maybe should could win the gold if she got healthy. I'm not joking either. I don't see how someone can keep up with such a demanding sport (demanding physically and mentally) and be that incredibly thin. It's not healthy.

She won the silver? I'm so upset I missed this--our cable has been out since 6:30pm due to a fiber being cut. I like watching her, she's so funny in her drama. We saw her when she toured with the 96 team and she was a lot different--very funny and cutting up and laughing the whole time. I didn't expect her to be a medal contender this time.

Who won the Bronze?

I believe it was the competitor from China who won bronze? Someone correct me if I am wrong...

I thought her attitiude tonight during the medal presentation was lovely. I do hope she finds a little more time to eat now that her competing is finished. As others have said, I can't imagine how tiny she must be in person.

My husband kept saying "can't she smile." She looked so stern.
