Svetlana Khorkina

LOL! I don't think Patterson and Khorkina like each other very much. Apparently, at the Worlds (I didn't see this, but I read it), Khorkina beat Patterson by a narrow margin. During Patterson's vault, which was the deciding factor, Khorkina decided she wasn't interested in the score and left the floor. LOL! And during the following press conference, when Patterson went to the podium where Khorkina already was sitting, Khorkina started in by showing her all her latest modeling pictures! Asked what she thought, Patterson replied, "Whatever."

Hahaha! That's really funny in a competitive, innocent way.

Here's an article on Khorkina's behavior after winning the silver last night. You got to hand it to that girl....she is making as much news as the winner.

Svetlana is a diva plain and simple. In Svetlana's mind it is ALL about Svetlana and the heck with everything else. I also don't remember her being as thin as she is now in past events.

While I certainly agree that's the way she is in competition, I do think it is very entertaining. She behaves as if she is on a stage and I think she gets a kick out of people's reactions to her. Who knows how she is in real life. She's alot like Katarina Witt actually (much thinner though!)

I just think in a sport where most of the girls blend together, looks and personality-wise, someone like Khorkina stands out in a good way.

Here's the catch. She's right. In Russia, in the life that she leads, it's all about Svetlana. She isn't married, no kids, I've never seen a shot of mom and dad in the stands, and she now has to make a living in a country with no money. She is kind of mother bear to that Russian gymnastics team, but at the end of the day, we go off the cliff alone, isn't that how the saying goes? I mean, if I were Svetlana, it would be all about me too.

I didn't say being a Diva is a bad thing. ;) And I do find her entertaining as well. I love to watch for the point in the competitions when she will break from the sucking on a lemon look to her beautiful smile. :)

Dana-I think she will be fine in her modelling career and if not she can always go into acting. She's already a drama queen. princess:

i thought that she looked like an ostrich the very first time i saw her last night! that is the exact thing i said to my mom. i thought her routines were okay but she didnt have as much spunk as i think they should and she sucks in her cheeks (the ones on her face :p ) and that makes her look even more unnattractive. i think she should be very thankful that she got the silver because in my own opinion i would have given it to the girl with the hurt leg just because she did awesome for someone with an injury. but thats just me.--so flame away--

She admitted herself in that interview that she is a diva, and LIKES to be called a diva. She expected no less than the gold.

According to the commentators, she received a higher score than she deserved for her parallel bars routine. She actually looked worried after it, but smirked when she saw the score. In that instance, it seemed that she got "reputation points" instead of "performance points".

I think there's no love lost between Carly and Svetlana. When Carly was asked "what were you thinking during Svetlana's performance?", and she kind of smiled and bit her lip, I thought it was priceless. It's a much different question than "what did you think of her performance?" and I'll bet a much different answer was in her head. ;)

Svetlana does remind me of Uma Thurman. A bit too thin-looking, compared to other pictures and videos. ::yes::

I think she looks unhealthy as well. I don't find her attractive but that is such a personal choice thing that it hardly matters anyway. She models in Russia and models are typically thin. If she is naturally thin with a fast metabolism, so be it but if she's trying to stay that thin I think that's another matter altogether.

She does look thinner this year than in previous years. I cannot figure out how to actually post the pictures within my post but here are some links:

Oh, yes, she's MUCH prettier in these pics, with some curve and shape to her. That adds to the argument that she isn't NATURALLY that thin rail she was at the Olympics, but something is going on... perhaps she never was able to recover fully from that illness. Who knows... I think the Svetlana in those pics is beautiful =)

I don't find her very attractive, and really don't know why she is a model?? She looked better when she smiled, but still not pretty. Just my personal opinion, though.

I don't think she's anorexic though. Like many of you said, she couldn't compete at that level, if she was. I'm 5'6 and weigh 107. I'm not, and I eat a lot. I must have a fast metabolism. I also exercise a lot, and burn a lot of calories. It's probably the same with her.

I didnt read all the posst so I may have missed something but here are MTCW :)

I think she is a wonderful gymnast but she just looks so HARSH, like she has had a very hard life. She looked very unhappy ( until the floor routine when she smiled she was beautiful!)

The thing that I find most shocking about her was the comment that she wanted to win gold more than she wanted to mother her own child. I understand being driven and determined, but I just don't understand that.

Actually she said she wants to win as gold AS MUCH as she wants to mother her own child. Not MORE!

Yep, that's what she said.

I didn't think it was all that big a deal coming from someone who said the Sydney Olympics are a "black mark on her soul." Hello, drama mama!

Personally I think that Carly is the one who deserved the gold so I am very glad that it was Carly that won it. Svetlana walks around looking like she swallowed a lemon. Anything I've ever seen of her left me thinking she was unbelievably self centered. Especially that interview last night, in Russian, the reactions of her to everything in any event I've seen her in, etc. Yes she handled last night's silver well, especially compared to how she normally handles it, but honestly I was glad she didn't win. Her scores were too generous, especially with all the comments the announcers were making about every mistake.

LOL! I got a kick out of the black mark on her soul too, and chalked up her earlier comment comparing mothering a child to gymanstics as the same sort of drama. I also wondered how much got lost in the translation, since I can't imagine any real person actually SAYING either of those two statements.......sounds like something someone in a novel might say though.

She does look like an ostrich, but I think the problem is her attitude. After she won silver in 2000 she ripped off her medal in disgust, that really turned me off.:(

I haven't read all the replies, so forgive me if I repeat, but I think she was robbed at her chance in the 2000 Olympics due to the vault's height being off.

Oh, I didn't realize she was kind of obnoxious last night, too. I didn't watch last night. In that case, she does come off a little bratty.

Gosh, I wonder too...it sounds like something you'd read in a historical romance novel. That's why this girl cracks me up...she takes herself and her sport so seriously, you just have to laugh.

Kind of "at her" and not "with her" though. ;)

I was glad to see her smiling last night - it was a welcome change. However, my immediate response when seeing her unfurling the flag etc. was that she was acting like she won the gold. When they were on the podium I changed my mind and thought she was acting very gracious and excited to have the silver. After reading the articles today, I'm back to being horrified by her behavior.

I feel bad for people that have such a strong media following during what has to be a very stressful time. I'd hate to have my every reaction documented for the world. She will have to live with the consequences of her poor behavior for a long time!

But the thing is, we're talking about her. I don't know the names of the girls on the Romanian team that took team gold; can't remember the names of those cute Chinese girls or even the French girls with those stunning leos. But we all know Svetlana's name, so I think she's accomplished her goal of standing out from the crowd.
