SUVs IN FL

Just an FYI, plywood doesn't fit inside the back of the average SUV. We needed to return eight sheets and it wouldn't fit in three different SUV's we tried.

Anne

No but it sure fits great right on top....couldn't do that with my car!

My DD has owned 3 different SUV's in the past 10 years and not one of them could carry as much stuff as my mini van.. I hate driving the one she has now - it has a terrible "blind spot"..

I don't know if I'll go back to a mini van, but I know for sure I won't be buying an SUV..

How does the Vibe drive? I thought they were really cute, but I was kind of worried it might be a step down from my Grand Am, in leg room in the back seat and engine size. If I hadn't needed something bigger, that would have definitely been my first choice.

Maybe when the kids are out of the house... if they're still making them.

I love driving it because it is smaller than my Odyssey, but it really doesn't have much power. Now I've been driving a 4 cylinder van so I'm pretty used to NO power.

I've had it a total of 4 days now so I'm not sure how the back seat really feels - no one has been in it. We are driving to Dallas for Christmas so it will get a test. My dad (6 feet and about 240) and my sister plus all of the presents.

Mine is bright red - and yes it is SO cute.

Stay away from the Honda Odyssey if you are worried about blind spots. That van had the worse blinds spots of any vehicle I have owned! My new MDX has no blind spots. It's great! Don't think that all SUVs have blindspots and no vans have them. I know better.

I had to drive my sister's Honda Odyssey when I was in Florida last year after she was unexpectedly hospitalized and there were no blind spots whatsoever! That's one of the reasons I had been considering one myself.. :flower:

I have 3 neighbors, all with Odysseys. They range in age of the 1999, the 2002, and the 2005. All of us agree that the van has blindspots. I've had the 1999 since it was new and it definitely has blind spots. I don't think I'd lie about that. LOL! Don't get me wrong. I loved my Odyssey! I just hated the blindspot. The only reason I got a new vehicle last week is because I wanted something smaller. My MDX also doesn't have that blindspot on the left side either which is an added bonus to me.

Well I don't think I would "lie" about the fact that my sister's had none either so maybe you're having a problem with your peripheal vision.. :rotfl: I think hers was either a 2002 or 2003.. 2003 sounds more like it..

Well I finally broke down and bought an SUV and I live in Fl. I have a large husband and usually at least 3 kids. I don't like Vans. As for blind spots I think some vehicles don't suit some people. I have none in my Trailblazer thank goodness. I love my car. I should have broke down and got one a long time ago.

Gee C.Ann I've never known you to be so nasty. Having a bad day? My vision is just fine along with that of my neighbors. All who have the blindspot. I was only offereing my opinion on a vehicle that I have owned for 5 years. But what do I know? But you just go ahead and buy that van. I'll be happy that you did. :rotfl2:

-------------------------

I wasn't being nasty - I was being sincere.. I know several people who have problems with peripheal vision who mistakenly thought their vehicles had blind spots.. Also, my DD's FIL has depth-perception problems now and can't back up a vehicle to save his soul without banging into something..

Considering I have driven the Honda Odys and had no problems with blind spots at all the thought crossed my mind that you might have some visual problems.. My sister has driven this vehicle back and forth to Florida twice now - not to mention all the driving she does down there - and she has never noticed any blind spots either.. :confused3 Maybe it has something to do with the way one is seated - all I know for sure is that it has never been a problem for either one of us..

Wow - it is almost sad how rude some posts are.

We also have a shepherd and DD in college. When she moved in, I was one of the few parents who just needed one car to transport the dorm stuff.

Like I said - I love my SUV, hope I have justified myself and my choice of vehicle sufficiently. :flower:

I'm curious as to what the Shepherd is studying in college.. :confused3

Actually, the only justification all of you have made for owning an SUV is that you could care less about the environment and will continue to do what you want. I guess when your children that you all care about SO much can't heat their homes and can't breathe the air anymore ..... :confused3

Anne, I feel your pain!

People in FL drive SUVs because they want to......the same reason people here in Ohio do. Personally, I hated mine and am glad to be rid of it. Wrecked it in December going 25 mph......that was on ice, and nothing is going to help on ice anyway.

To each his/her own. DH and I did laugh about the SUVs in FL that were so clean.....so many of them around here are mud covered 11 months out of the year.

Really. Who cares anyway? I know I couldn't care less what people think of my spending habits. Why waste your time?

Yep, you are right. I continue to do what I want. And why shouldn't I? :confused3 I'm sorry but I do not feel I am hurting anyone by driving an SUV. My family comes first, call me selfish. And I choose to drive an SUV for the safety of my family and b/c that is what works for us. And frankly, I really have no worries that my kids, their kids and even their kids for that matter won't be able to heat their homes or won't be able to breath the air. I just don't buy it. Oh, and btw, I do care for the environment.

is there a "whatever" smilie?

Does anyone really think that the majority of vehicile owners purchase them on the basis of the effects on the environment?

Huh?

the poster made an incorrect blanket statement.

After getting rear ended in my minivan while driving 45mph by a hit and run driver--I cannot wait for the day I can get an SUV.

A little 4-cylinder would have been shoved off of the road and seriously wrecked.

However--in the mean time, we are enjoying our new minivan.

LOL! I was agreeing with YOU. That is why I said why waste your time with her.
