I am turning into a sushi addict. Really it's the California rolls more than anything!:teeth: Our Publix has a great sushi chef (very friendly and he's always there preparing the sushi so I know it's fresh, fresh, fresh!)

Anyway, I just had a delicious 6.5 point meal - 9 pieces of sushi! I got the kind with avocado and "crab". YUM YUM YUM! They also have a really yummy spicy roll made with cooked shrimp, but that has a bit of mayo in it so I let DH have that (I trade him one for one...)

Anyone else on WW enjoying alot of sushi? I really wasn't a sushi fan before I started WW, but over the last few months I've been getting a taste for it. I didn't think I would really like it very much, but about 2-3 weeks ago I tried some and have been hooked ever since.

Got brave the other week and had some made with raw tuna and fish roe. While it was quite tasty, the texture of the raw fish hasn't quite made it past my ick reaction! I like a little bit of the raw fish, but I don't want to commit to a whole 9-pack of the same thing. Thank goodness for variety packs! ;)

Sushi! Yummy!

Though I'm not doing WW, sushi is a huge part of my diet. I do love all the raw stuff! Orange rolls yummy. Unfortunately, my sushi habit is getting a bit pricey! I started out with California rolls, and the next thing I was eating tuna and octopus! OH now you've got me going. I really want to go to the sushi bar for dinner. I don't think I could do that to DH, and my kids won't go with. DARN! DARN! DARN! DARN! DARN! (Picture Herman Munster jumping up and down!) Maybe I'll settle for a combo plate from the grocery. Thanks for te idea!

Keep the Faith!

I have sushi at least once a week. It is one of the tools my wife and I use to keep our calorie intake down while in maintenance, while still having the "treat" of going out to eat each week.

I used to do California Rolls, but the avocado kept adding up to too many calories for me. I do salmon maki and salmon nigiri most often now. I also love the eel.

Okay, I will admit it. I have never tried sushi and actually have no idea what it even is! LOL! :scratchin

Anyone care to share what a California Roll is? Publix recently opened in our area but I haven't tried any of their food from the deli/bakery area.

Strictly speaking, sushi is, "Cold cooked rice dressed with vinegar that is shaped into bite-sized pieces and topped with raw or cooked fish, or formed into a roll with fish, egg, or vegetables and wrapped in seaweed."

A California Roll is typically the American's "starter sushi." It's typically maki (seaweed) filled with rice and surimi, which looks like shellfish meat, but is really white fish that is put through a process developed in Japan several hundred years ago. (White fish flesh is minced, washed and then heated it, causing a natural gelling of the flesh. This is then mixed with other ingredients and steamed, resulting in a stick that stays together as though it were a natural product.) Often, to make it more tasty (and more caloric, unfortunately), avocado slices are added to the roll.

Most sushi, however, is raw fish, either on a small formed nugget of rice, or stuffed with rice in seaweed.

I really like Shuhi too, but it's sort of intimidating to me. I haven't really had the chance to learn much about the different kinds etc. I usually only order it when I go out to lunch with a few of the friends I work with. I definately like how low in points they are. They are really filling too!

YUMMY!

Ok, you all had me so hungry for Sushi, that I tracked down one of the girls who likes to eat Sushi and we went for lunch.

This was the first time I tried this place, and by far it is the best I have ever eaten. A little place called the Bluefin Japanese Sushi Bar. We split Edamame, a calfornia roll, an Alaskan roll, a crunchy tuna roll and a shrimp tempura roll. They also brought us out a sample of fish tempura on the house. They had an awesome little fried banana at the end that was dipped in honey and then a light crunchy batter. I don't think it was too fattening.

Now I have to figure out all my points. Got to love those flex points. Thanks TigH for starting this thread. I bet I wouldn't have had Sushi today if you hadn't of started it. It hit the spot!

Now you've done it! Sushi - YUM!

I suppose this might be better posted on the dining board, but does anyone know where in Disney World you can get sushi? I would guess at Japan/Epcot - but the last time I was there (years ago) they only had the tepannaki style cooking (cooking at the table)

I think it would be the ideal snack while theme parking - high quality protein, not too heavy on the carbs, and low fat (except for that avocado, oh well!)

Isn't it funny how diets can be so different, and yet everybody loses weight anyway? I love sushi, but it's the rice that I can't have. I could have as much mayo or avacado that I want - but I'll eat the rice and gain 5 pounds! LOL!!

I am planning on having some sushi on our upcoming WDW trip though - hopefully in Kimonos. Or up in the Mat so numa (sp?) lounge in Japan.

I love sushi, too, but it's not Atkins-friendly. I used to eat it once a week, but now I haven't had it in about 10 months. *sigh* One of the things to look forward to as a special treat when I get close to goal, I guess! Enjoy your treats, you lucky WW'ers!

We've had lunch at a sushi bar next to the Teppanyaki House.

That's what they make sashimi for!

Is Sashimi just the fish? I love the yellow fin tuna at kimonos with lots of wasabi. Just love that wasabi :)

I think it's the raw fish-no rice.

Ok, this thread has gotten me into trouble. Now I have another date for lunch tomorrow for more sushi!!!!!!! YUMMM!!

I love California Rolls. They are really filling. I haven't graduated to anything more raw than that. I don't think I will. Although, I'll usually try anything with avocado in it. I LOVE AVOCADO.

Yup, sashimi is just the fish, typically raw (though the eel is typically cooked).

Does a pear sit in the woods?!? Take a look at my "location". YES! I eat sushi! Lots of sushi. It's in my grocery store here made fresh every day. Of course the fish with heads, and the salt cured fish, and the octopus, and the chopped up fish parts are all for sale there, too!

I've become much more discerning in my sushi cuisine the past few months (since I moved here). No "California rolls" here in the good places. I love the rotating sushi bars here, where a conveyor belt in front of you constantly circles around the bar with lots of varieties of sushi on the belt. You pick up the plates and eat what you want and pay by the color of the plate that the sushi came on! It's really cool!

A fish and veggie diet here have helped me get to where I'm at now. Most Japanese cooking is really not that "healthy", so I do have to be pretty careful. But the availability of good fish has made this journey a little easier for me.

Downward, my friends!
