I love Survivor but I'm a little concerned about the first episode. Did anyone see the previews about them having to go through some sort of initiation? It looks like it may be some sort of animal sacrafice. I really hope not because I'm a huge animal lover and still have nighmares from the cow-tapping in Africa!!

I saw the preview too! I think they have to walk through fire. It makes sense as Vanuatu is the "fire " islands. I am really looking forward to tonight! I have Tivo, TG, because my son has soccer at 6:15. So I'll be watching late.

Oh, I hope you're right Tinks! I saw one of the natives appear to chop something and someone squinted so I just assumed....
I think fire walking would be more entertaining anyhow!!

I read in the Baltimore Sun that a pig is sacrificed and the blood is smeared on the male contestants. The Sun does not think this is a good thing a 8PM and neither do I. It kind of turns me off to watching tonight.

Well, I go away for 2 weeks to see the Mouse and the state of California and some one starts a new Survivor thread. Thats cool, I was wondering why I wasn't getting any e-mail notices from the other about some one posting. (Is there a way to bring the other thread here?)

Well, tonights the night! CBS at 8pm eastern time. But its just one hour, bummer!

Words cannot describe what I am feeling after reading that! My 5 & 6 yr olds love this show but I'm be damned if I'm going to let them see that! I have that darn scene pictured in my head already and I wish I could erase it. I guess I'm just very sensitive to that sort of thing. I really do believe they've stepped over the line here. JMHO. My kids were really looking forward to it and now I'm going to have to come up with an excuse as to why they can't watch it. I think I may have already watched my last Survivor.

Oh, I hope that bit about the pig sacrifice isn't true. Good thing my boys will be at scouts tonight. I'll tape it for them, but at least then I can fast-forward thru the gross parts if necessary.

I really doubt there is going to be shots of the pig actually being killed. And many tribal rituals do include using blood as paint. It's true to the setting. My problem will be if no one gets to use the rest of the pig for sustenance. If they get to eat it, then only Kimmi-folks would have an issue. We never saw the chickens getting their necks wrung in Australia or Africa, if you recall.

(And no slam on Kimmi-folks intended. If you are a vegetarian on moral grounds, more power to you.)
