~ SURVIVOR Samoa ~ Season 19 ~

I really feel bad for Russell - he always struck me as a regular guy who didn't really want the leadership role, but one it was his, he tried very hard. Sometimes too hard, and sometimes making the wrong decision (like picking pillows and blankets over a tarp), but he always had the tribe's best interests at heart. (Like his reasoning for the pillows - to keep the women happy because if they're not happy, nobody's happy.) I hope he made a full recovery.

And like everyone else said, I thought it was kind of nasty that the producers didn't have pizza for both tribes when they went to tribal council. What's up with that?

Did you all see the previews for next week? What did they say: A "Russell seed" is planted at Galu. Looks like Monica (or that other dark-haired girl on Galu) visits the Foa Foa tribe. So I guess Galu wins another immunity challenge and they send someone to Foa Foa until the vote at tribal council. Not good for Galu: first Shambo becomes an "almost" member of Foa Foa, and now Monica.....

DH said the same thing, but it IS possible that Foa Foa won and sent Russel over. Being the master manipulator that he is, he may have insisted that he be sent over just so he could sew ******* among the other tribe.

Thats how I took it anyway.

While I agree wit the comments about the pizza and the fact that it wasn't all that exciting to watch; I thought he episode was a good one.

It would have been hard to simply gloss over what happened to Russell and what they showed before hand went a long way in explaining why it did happen. I think the tribal council foreshadowed some possible interesting happenings after the merge.

I guess I am in the minority here. I think this past episode was VERY significant. Galu lost their strongest player and leader. Galu Russel have a VERY good chance of winning it all. He was playing the game nearly perfectly.

The confrontation of the two tribes at tribal council was significant. Finally, the two tribes are starting to have a rival brewing thanks to the trash talking from Galu.

Also, I am on the same boat with everyone about the pizza. They should have given it to both tribes. We were wondering who ate the pizza. Considering Somoa is so small, someone had to consume it. The host? JK

Lastly, the previews from the next episode of survivor revealed the only mistake Russel has made. His circle of friends/trustees is wayyyy too large. Anyone who watches a good amount of survivor knows that alliances are only strong if they are in small numbers (2 or 3). That alliance can manipulate other people to think they are in the alliance, but EVERYONE MUST BE ON THE SAME PAGE. Russel isn't doing this. This is a fatal flaw that will hurt him in the end. Mark my words.

He has alliances with the blond in Foa Foa, all the guys in Foa Foa, and now will be making a bond with the girl from Galu. That's 4 people, 5, including him. If Russel was smart, he would tell the two guys from Foa Foa what he is doing (the fake alliance with the blond from Foa Foa and the fake aliance with the girlf from Galu next week). But since he is keeping all of this secret, someone will spill the beans eventually (after the merge probably) and the tables will turn on Russel.

I am shocked that Foa Foa tribe members are so bad at communicating. On most other seasons of survivor (especially last season) Russel would have been figured out by now.

I can't wait to see the rest of this season unfold. Great episode tonight that really changed the game, but didn't have the appeal of immunity or winning a food challenge.

Oh yeah, I also liked how Russel was making fun of all the members in his tribe complaining. I hate Russel ever since his Katrina story lie (b/c my family was affected by Katrina and DID have to swim out), but he is a really strong player. He is probably one of the most mentally strong players I have seen in all the survivor I have watched. As I said, he will not win because his alliances are too large and unorganized. He thinks he is God. Once you get that mentality, it will bite you in the butt.

I couldn't believe what happened to Russell. Stumbling around and the passing out on the maze? He was a tough cookie too! I think this time around the elements are a lot harder than any other 'survivior' had to endure on the show. I really hope for their sake (and for my selfish desire to see something other than people huddled in a shack) the rain goes away.
I am really glad that the guys have decided to take Shambo under their wing, I just hope she doesn't do anything stupid to ruin their trust.
I can't decide if Russell (Foa Foa) was on the other side as a result of a merger or winning a challenge. But I couldn't believe how easily he 'planted his Russell seed' in the other tribe.
I don't understand how they are so completly dim, that on the first day they promise to go to the final two, like that will actually happen?
I also loved the trash talk from both teams at tribal. I really dislike how cocky Galu was, but when they said they are bringing it for Russell, they saved themselves.

I was hoping they would have pizza for both teams at tribal council, I was disappointed when they didn't. They worked hard at the challenge and while I like Russell and feel bad that he was pulled, I think the others should have been rewarded.

I agree they should have had the pizza at least as a means of some nutrition- I know they can't influence the outcome of them game but if they don't start eating soon they'll all be dropping like flies.

When do they start the Ponderosa? Is it when the first jury member is voted off?

Dang! You guys could be right - I didn't pay too much attention to see who the other people in the background were to tell which tribe Russell was at.

What is the Ponderosa?

Ponderosa is where the jury members hang out after they're voted out of the game. The CBS site will have videos from Ponderosa - usually their thoughts as they're in the car after being voted out (and eating chocolate), how the other jury members welcome them to Ponderosa, getting weighed, etc. It's kind of neat to watch. Esp. when there are 2 people who hated each other during the game (last season's Coach and that blonde girl - I can't remember her name right now) and how well they get along at Ponderosa.

Wow, I have watched every single season of Survivor and this is the first I have heard of Ponderosa! :scared1:
So the voted out members stay there until the season ends? They don't go home? :confused3

Ponderosa will hurt Russel because he has made the "final two" promise with 4 people already. When some of those people get to Ponderosa and reveal that, the jury will start to talk...

MSN has a link on their website to some blog that Jeff Probst does.
In the comment section, someone asked why both tribes weren't given pizza, and Jeff commented that they gave pizza to both tribes, it just didn't make it to editing.
To me, that is a huge edit mistake.
Those people were wet, tired and hungry.

Plus, why are they not making better shelters,
I agree with Russ, when it stops raining, they should be looking for anything to give them more protection.

I agree, it was a huge editing mistake.

It seems as if no one wants to beef up their camp(s) or do anything to improve their living conditions. Granted its been rainy, cold and miserable but just laying/sitting in the rain isn't going to make anything better. The tribes might feel better if they did something IMO.

What is the Ponderosa?

In the past, Ponderosa begins when the first jury member is voted off.

Ponderosa is the camp where the jury members are held after being voted off. The CBS Survivor website has additional video of what happens after the game for the jury members. In years past there have been some pretty funny and rather nasty moments at Ponderosa.

Oops, I guess I should remember that when I pulled the tread up, I also walked away for an hour! Guess you guys get the answer twice. Sorry!

nobody who's voted off goes home, not even the first person voted off. If they did, then folks at home would be able to figure out who won, just by when the people returned home. I think I read somewhere that the people voted off before the jury are basically on "vacation" wherever Survivor is filmed (or maybe they take them somewhere else where they won't be seen??); I'm sure somebody from the production staff supervises them to be sure they don't blab. And the jury is kept at Ponderosa until the final vote. Then everybody goes back home at the same time.

Wow, have I been living under a rock. :lmao:
I had no idea, yet I always wondered what happened when they got voted off.
Thanks for the explanations! :thumbsup2

I disagree with the editing on not showing them eating pizza. They could have thrown in a 10-second shot with Russell's voice-over, when he was talking about having to leave the game. The visual of Russell's care could have been shortened, it wasn't all that "exciting".

That said, I'm sorry to see Russell go, he seems like a man of honor and integrity, and those are the players I always like to see go far.

I watched some of the recaps since I did not get to see the show. I agree with Shambo. Galu was stupid for not collecting the fresh rain water to drink. I really hope that she will not be voted off any time soon.

I liked Russell and am sorry he had to leave the game.

Russell made the right decision in keeping Jaison. I think that Liz would have turned on him as soon as they merged.

It should be interesting next week.

Is anyone else NOT hating Russell anymore? I won't get over the fact that he lied about Katrina, but putting that aside, DH and I are now thinking that he's just playing the game really well.

P.S. Yeah, he's a jerk, but within the context of "Survivor", we're liking him. LOL
