Maybe because, like Skiwee mentioned, there was no big initial task before they met their teams. In previous years they have had to ride the boat and then jump out and swim to shore, or go loot the pirates, or get there and instantly pick teams and vote people out, etc... This year it was just like ok, you're here and here are your teams, now go hike for 11 miles. After that point I thought it was REALLY interesting, but I, too, felt like there should have been a little more build up to the teams. They could have had a 2 hour premier

I watched it with DH on tape last night since he wasn't home & I saw a few cases where Jamie just hung back & didn't have a great reaction like the others. He was one who didn't like that Stephanie & BJ were back because they could take the money from him. When the tribe first got the imunity idol he did join in the group hug & had a smile on his face BUT he hung back while they continued celebrating.

I'm happy that Steph is back. She didn't get a good enough chance before. I was sorry about the guy that got voted out having an injury. I'd have liked to see him last a little longer. But it was logical to kick him out- he couldn't have been helpful with tasks or challenges with a bad arm.

I also enjoyed the premiere. I want to see Survivors actually struggle to survive. I hate it when food/water/fire is practically given to them on a silver platter.

I think they should have brought back Michael (the one that got burnt) because he was a good player, and wanted to continue on. It wasn't his fault that he had to leave the game. Steph and BJ had their chance already. Michael should get another.

I just wanna know what the heck happened to the so called men in the groups???? the women went on like troopers while the guys passed out, cramped up, puked and whined. I would like to have seen Tom the chicken farmer, colby the pretty boy or lex.......

I saw Rupert on some sitcom doing a guest spot - I think as a homeless guy. It wasn't a show I would normally watch so I can't tell you what it was. He's looting of the other teams shoes was priceless...

That's definitely my favorite Survivor moment EVER!!!!! My opinion of him completely changed at that moment. Love Rupert!

I am surprised that so many people didn't like this intro. Maybe it was everyone getting sick. Personally I loved it. I think this year that are really working everyone.

Anyone else watching old seasons on OLN? I missed the first bunch of Africa, so I skipped it. I am loving the fact that I can see it now.

SSB did like it... not my fave, but good...

Keep meaning to check out the OLN dealee... what season are they on now??? (have one and two on dvd)

I'm watching them!! Re-hooked you might say. SSB, they are on Africa right now. I forgot how HARD they had it in Africa, and certainly forgot about all the CHARACTERS, good AND bad!!

Though DS18 tells me that OLN is slated to be the hockey channel for the NHL. So after Oct 5, the Survivor reruns may be hard to come by!

And I did enjoy the first of the new season!

RE: Guat - the bugs are what would get to me. We were in Mexico at Chichen Itza, and nearly stepped on a roach the size of my hand. Uggh. I shiver just thinking about it.

I'm watching Africa for the first time. I can't believe how the one team is so divided already. The "young" people on that tribe are so juvenile. The one chick who was almost voted off really gets to me. I hope she's gone soon.

We finally found time to watch Survivor last night. What a great sendoff for this season. It turns out that the other person here at work who watches Survivor is an acquaintance of Margaret through their local scout troop.

I thought Margaret played a really smart game. It seemed to me that she was extremely valuable and helpful to her teammates without falling into the "leadership" trap. I could not believe at how the guys just fell apart in the heat. I hope that Nakum doesn't go the way of Koror did in Palau (losing all of their immunity challenges).
