Survivor Denise's sob story...what a crock(Spoilers about reunion show)

I liked Denise, but I think her money whine was over the top. She lives close to Worcester and Providence - ample opportunity to get a better paying job with her credentials. Hell, even people with no education or experience can make more than that.
I don't see the need to whine about your situation when you can find a better one with very little effort.

If someone can lie and back stab to get $1 million, might as well tell your sob story (or exaggerate it?) to get $50K! I also think the producers probably wanted her to go with the lunch lady, maybe because she kind of fit the "stereotype."

I like Denise though, because she seemed more "real" where a lot of other contestants don't even seem to have applied, but found through modeling agencies or whatever.

No one held a gun to her head and told her she had to go on the show, which may or may not have involved loosing the job she had before she left.............:confused3

That's true, but no one told Mark Burnett he had to give her $50K either. If I could say "I lose my job" in a whiny voice with a sad look on my face and get $50K, damn straight I'd do it!

Sour Grapes. The entire show is about strategy. Sounds like she had a pretty good one. I have no problem with her or her accepting the money.

If you want money like that, try out for the show or let it go.

Part of me is wondering if Survivor knows the whole truth but made her "play it up" for ratings. If she wasn't a lunch lady before it aired then why was she called that in the show? Wonder what the fallout will be?

I just saw that she is going to be on the CBS morning show in a few minutes, maybe defending what she said? I will be watching to see what she has to say.

I still feel bad for her. The show used her.

Everyone is having a fit about her hair. Sure it is a style that is outdated, but almost "every had it".

Well, if I were that school district I would tell her to enjoy that $50,000 and show her the door! There is no way I would keep her employed there after she has just lied about them and dragged them through the mud on national TV. Not the character of someone that I would want working for me. Outwit, Outplay, Outlast ended for her when Jeff said "Your tribe has spoken". To lie about her employer like that on the reunion show dispicable. Her 15 minutes of fame is going to be over very quickly and that $50,000 will be gone fast. I bet she will really wish she still had that $17.00/hour job cleaning toilets pretty soon when the phone stops ringing and the bills still keep coming.

Oh and Phorsenuf is a lunch lady, and she has BEAUTIFUL long hair! You do not have to sport a god awful mullet to wear a hair net, be a lunch lady and still be feminine. There is a reason they make pony tail holders. :sad2:

Can someone post a recap of what she said on the Early Show? I can't see the video on this computer.

The school superindendant said that Denise had applied for the custodial job back in Jan and she was moved in March. The custodial job paid about $17 an hour with better benefits. However, when Denise got to Survivor and started to miss her family, she decided that she was much happier in the lunch lady job, although it paid $10 less an hour with less benefits, and that she missed being with her family for dinner and sporting activities because her custodial job was the night shift. The superindendant seemed to be very fortright. Denise did apologize for her statements coming out as they did, that she hadn't meant it 'that way'. She apolozied to the school dept and the town saying that they had completely supported her while she was away. When asked if she would keep the $50 grand, she hemmed and hawed until Julie finally said that it was obvious Denise is keeping the money.

My thoughts? I'm embarrassed and a bit peeved by Denise's actions. She knew going into the custodial job what it entailed, what the hours would be. For her to go on national tv and say the things she said about her employers just frosts me. That poor town...the entire world talking about them and how awful they are to their employees. Shame on Denise. Oh, by the way...we have plenty of lunch ladies that have long hair. They just tie it back and put the hairnet around their head...no mulletts in my town....sheesh lady!

Sour Grapes??? Seriously?? Yes, the show is about strategy, lying, backstabbing, etc. But that is SUPPOSED to end when you are voted off. You are not supposed to carry those tactics home with you after the tribal council. And if you do, I'd like to see who is going to give you a free pass for that behavior. No one would have faulted her for telling that lie before she was sent home. But she told that lie after the game had ENDED.

The school did not sign on to play outwit, outplay, and outlast with her or the show. Lying about the school that supported her on national tv was unethical and will end up costing her a lot more than the money she won, in the damage to her reputation and credibility. So, well "played," Denise. Hope that $50k lasts a looooong time.

I thought that was kinda crappy that Courtney said she 'sucked' at life...glad she apologized for saying it though

For the record, IMO an anorexic waitress/barfly sucks at life just as much as a lying former lunch lady/ janitor. If Denise hadn't lied, I would say that Courtney's the loser out of the two.

OK, if this is what Denise said on the Early Show, she is still lying! She is insisting she makes $7.00/hour as a lunch lady, and I can tell you it is not true!

I don't know why I feel so passionate about defending a school cafeteria job, but here in MA, the minimum wage ALONE is $7.50/hour. So, that is what she would have to be paid at least. She seems to have had the job for many years, so she would of gotten regular raises, and if she moved up in positions, she would be paid more. (The head cook makes more than the dishwasher, ect)

I worked in a lunch room for one school year here in MA. I can tell you, I was STARTED at $8.75/hour, and I got a raise after 6 months. Had I continued into the next school year, there would of been another raise. I was only part time, full time made more money. A friend of mine started working in the same school I did after I left, and he was making over $10/hour after only a year. BTW, the women I worked with, ALL of them had LONG hair! Not one mullet in the crew.

Granted, I don't live in the same town as Denise, but I can tell you with full certainty, she did not make $7.00/hour as a lunch lady. No way, no how.

Did Denise explain on the Early Show WHY she would say the school asked her to leave the lunch position AFTER she got back? When the fact is, she wasn't in the lunchroom when she left? To me, that seems to be the main reason why MB gave her the money. The big bad school FIRED her from her crappy paying job, yet turned around and gave her another job in the same school. (A better paying job, she left that part out)

I'll probably get flamed for this but so be it.

It really ticked me off to see her painting this portrait of her family living in poverty. Looking at that family, they surely haven't missed many meals.

JMHO :confused3
