How many people are still holding onto "trauma" from previous seasons? Coach, Ozzy, Charlie, Joe? You wonder how much this impacts their life outside of Survivor.
I think for a show like this with all repeaters, some many repeats if nothing else they might be bringing the fact that they had all the tools and never won. Rather than use what they learned they are leaning on what failed.
I hope this doesn't come out wrong but I feel like many come on this show that that have the ability to walk away from life, like Ozzy, especially the earlier years when the commitment was much longer. OR they have succeeded in life and looking for that new challenge, vacations can last this long, like Mike. Completely different mindsets. Those not like Mike, they often seem to have something to face or prove and Survivor can make or break that.
Looking back at Ozzy he was young, good looking, strong and won task after task. Now he practically looks lost in life, maybe unhealthy, no longer the young hunk that won everything. 5th season? Really? His
interviews and info on his life outside of Survivor are not positive. Survivor is not going to heal him, and the question is did the early Survivor seasons do more harm than good for him.
Charlie has every right to still be mad at someone he fully trusted, who betrayed him and perhaps cost him lots of money. BUT this is a new season, a new chance to prove himself and he squandered it on his constant leaning on the past. He could have easily just worked to stay and help Rizzo to go,
quietly.
Coach learned minimal. He's still the same but maybe being among repeat players he is checking himself a tiny bit.
Joe, I will always cheer him on. His heart gets in his way, and I can see where playing again to play different ... but with the same heart and an older body, will hurt.
I think you are probably right in that repeat players bring baggage and some of that was packed on the previous season they played. I'm kinda skeptical of Survivor's vetting process ....
Vetting for reality tv needs to be improved!!! Looking at you ABC. You just cost the company a bundle!!! Hopefully those who vetted were fired.
