Survey I received from DCL

I received an email from DCL today asking me to participate in a survey. Since I know these surveys have prompted interest from the board in the past, I thought I would share a few highlights:
  • DCL asked me for my thoughts on the following port locations: Port Canaveral, Port Everglades, San Diego, Galveston, New Orleans, Manhattan, Los Angeles, Vancouver, South Hampton, Barcelona, Civitavecchia, Sydney, Auckland, and Singapore.
  • How did I feel about the current state of the economy? How did I feel about my family's personal financial situation?
  • How many cruises have I taken with DCL? Which ships did I sail on?
  • Which ships have I considered booking for the next few years?
  • If offered a 25% discount for a cruise that will take place in the next few months, would that compel me to book that cruise if I was already considering taking it?
  • My preferences when looking to book a cruise (e.g., comfort, ports of call, length of cruise, the Disney brand, etc.).
  • How likely was I to purchase certain services/goods? For example, a drink package, spa services, paid dining, etc.
  • As mentioned above, it asked me to identify the cruise ships I have considered booking for the next two years, it seems like my selection of the Destiny prompted more questions:
    • It asked me to select the reason(s) why I haven't booked the Destiny yet.
    • Which port do I prefer most? Port Canaveral or Fort Lauderdale?
Overall, my sense from the survey was that DCL was trying to gauge what is holding back customers from primarily booking the Destiny (but other ships as well), the current state of the economy, and what may be needed to attract potential customers. This is all nothing that hasn't already been discussed here, but I thought I would share nonetheless.

How many times have you cruised with DCL and were you shopping for cruises on DCL? Im curious what prompted the survey. Whenever I shop around NCL or Princess on their websites my "personal cruise planner" calls me.:sad2:

LOL, I had that same thought as I was literally looking last night at booking a cruise next Christmas on the Destiny.

I've only sailed once with DCL (this past summer to Alaska), but we have three cruises booked over the next 18 months. Perhaps DCL smells blood in the water and is trying to figure out how to extract that fourth cruise out of me. :)

They should put Norfolk, VA as a departure port! We have good infrastructure here. Put in a standalone Disney Store within range of the ship (maybe near Nauticus) and you’re set! Disney magic can come to the Commonwealth! Of course you’d still have to contend with Carnival and other rival cruise lines’ scheduling.

If Carnival can come here, so can Disney!

In a recent survey I took, Disney asked why I haven’t booked the Dream.

I like getting surveys from DLC. Your’s sounds far more interesting than mine!

I was pricing out Disneyland tickets and got a survey on Disneyland the next day.

I cancelled two DCL cruises for next year. One was fully paid. I never got a survey. I guess they are not interested in my reasons.

We got off a Merrytime Cruise on the Dream on Monday, and I received a similar survey as well.

In September we went on a RCCL cruise out of Bayonne that went to 4 of the ports they were asking about! My ports were primarily in NE and Canada, and Bermuda.

I always find it curious who they send surveys to. I never get one - other than the annoying one that always pops up on their site about technical difficulties and the design/ease of the site.

I think it's always interesting to see what they are asking about (when they go over surveys is one of my favorite parts of the Disney Dish podcast) and try to speculate where they are going with it, and what it could mean for the future.

Yup. Because we need something new to look forward to.

I've gotten some weird ones. The weirdest one was 3 or 4 years ago and they wanted to know what source I got my news from. The choices they gave me were right or left leaning. It was very odd, but I guess they were trying to learn which direction their customers leaned.

I just got a survey too. It asked me about a bunch of Med ports (France and Italy only) and then a lot of questions about New York. Praying for Bermuda from NYC to come back!
Tell them to do some long cruises out of Tokyo and all around Japan....Please.

Here’s my survey, DCL. As soon as the kids age out of the kids clubs, we’re gone. There are so many things annoying me about DCL and we do love DCL. But I really feel like DCL is trying to become more like the mainstream cruise lines instead of staying true to their original identity. Just because they throw a bunch of loud shows in our faces doesn’t make it DCL. That being so, why pay the Disney premium? We’ve been on other cruise lines, most of them, and they are just as good. If Disney isn’t as “Disney” as it once was, there’s not much difference. I want original Disney. Not marvel. Not the movies made within the last ten (even 15?) years 🤮. Not “new” Star Wars. I don’t want to walk into the Disney theater and have Deadpool playing. That’s not a family friendly movie. You want to fill the ships, read the room, Disney. Unfortunately, the current Disney management only seems to navel gaze.

Man, I would love a Japan sailing.
My guess is they will offer 3 and 4 day sailings. That seems to be their MO. Princess does year long 7-12 days sailings around Japan. They must sell because they keep doing them. When I think of Princess and Japan I can't help, but remember Feb 2020 when that Diamond Princess was quarantined for several days.

Totally agree with on the movies. I've heard Zootopia is decent. We stuck with Disney through the teen years because it was still the best option. If I had kids your age I think I'd be moving on as soon as they hit 11. There are currently a lot of new ships that look good for teens. The nice thing about Disney is the kids clubs are always open and they don't charge you extra.
