Can someone tell me how much the rental is for the surrey bikes? Is it the same for all resorts? Is there a discount for DVC members? I noticed that there are some larger surrey bikes with 3 seats (I think), but I'm interested in the ones that have two seats. Would it be possible for my 11 yo DS and me to be the two "pedalers" with a 6yo and 7yo as "passengers" (combined weight of about 85 pounds)?

When you rent the bike, they test and see if the "pedalers" can reach the pedals. They make sure you know how to operate the brake, etc.

I think the ages of the passengers are too old if you want them to sit in the front "basket" as passengers. My 6 yr old DS almost couldn't fit.

Oh, and they are not as easy as they look and I am no wimp. Some of the little hills around the boardwalk take some real work and they aren't that big. My MIL and I were the pedalers and my two kids were sitting in the front basket which added a lot of weight. It was kind of funny.

I think the price was somewhere around $20 and we did not belong to DVC at the time so I did not ask about any discounts.

When I went in June they wouldn't let us ride with my 8 yo in the middle of the one seater. We had me and my 10yo DD pedaling. They also required us to put the 6yo DS in the front, but he wouldn't go for it. With all that said, it is very fortunate that they didn't ride along. Those hills are tough. REAL TOUGH, and I am no whimp either. Two adults can do it, but with a child that can just reach the pedal, it is tough. Catch some good speed before the hills.

Also, I found the people who worked for the rental company to be surly.

That's why they are called Surly Bikes!

Actually, the best place to rent and ride surrey bikes is at OKW. There is lots of space to ride and NO hills. I think it's a little cheaper there, too.

I have always wondered about those bikes.
It seems that some people don't know that thrill rides should be kept inside of the parks.I have seen many small children almost hit by people who ride these bikes recklessly.
Has any one seen any accidents.
Even here in NYC we have laws about ridingbikes in amanner that may endanger pedestrians.
Do they ever stop people and take back bike?

There have been accidents reported on this board... I've never witnessed a bike being taken (nor have I ever read of such a thing)...

The best place to ride is over at WLV's, you can ride over to Fort Wilderness, see the petting zoo & then come back!!! It might be less expensive at OKW though (their boating is less expensive than any of the other resorts)....

If you have only one adult pedaling, go for the flat courses!!

We've done the surrey bikes at both BW & OKW, and OKW is much easier!! This past August we did the bikes at BW for the third time with DH, DD (16), DS (6), upfront & myself. None of us are weaklings, but the group in front of us couldn't get up the hill & we started laughing so hard that we couldn't either! Next time we'll mind our own business (and say thank goodness that's not us) & just keep pedaling (and maybe we'll stick to the bikes at OKW).

Sounds like my 10yo DS and I probably won't be able to handle it with a 5 and 6yo as passengers!
