Surprised with trouble booking at 7 month window...

this winter was a special case. I was there in Dec few years ago, and it was really perfect.

I've never been the last week on Jan. This will be a first for us.
We have been in early January '02, and it snowed on our the drive down from my sister's house in ATL! We needed hats and gloves one day, but then a few days later, we were swimming because it got up into the 70's. Weird!
We were there over MLK weekend in Jan '08, and it was very warm. We needed shorts and such. So I guess, when traveling in Jan. you need to pack for dressing in layers! We're New Englanders, so a little cold and ice doesn't scare us!

We've gone several times in January and February with very pleasant weather, but OMG!! this last January was unbelievably cold.

It went into the 20s for several days.

We've been going in January for the past few years, and I have to say that this past January was the coldest I've seen it yet. I took a picture of the weather map on TV one morning showing current temps in the TEENS over a good deal of Florida. That same morning, a fake geyser on Kilimanjaro Safari was actually making snow. I didn't have my camera out at the time (hands in pockets trying to stay warm) so I didn't get a picture.

The early part of January was horrible, but we went on a short cruise and BWV trip the third week of the month and it was really quite nice. We have never sailed on calmer seas and the days at BWV were beautiful during the day and jacket weather at night. Yes, you take your chances in January, but crowd sizes are worth it to me.

It must be the Holiday weekend that is causing the demand.
I was able to get a Boardwalk View Studio at BWV this morning at the 7 month mark for January 21 - 27. They also had pool/garden views but did not have standard view available.

Weather in the Winter months cannot be depended on. We've been for a lovely mild week in January where we were swimming in the pools (although it was a little chilly) and a frigid week in Feburary where we spend our time bundled up and wish we'd have brought gloves. But as long as you don't plan a trip around water parks and pools - and check the forecast before packing so you don't show up with a suitcase full of shorts when the high is 45, it can be a nice time time travel.

I admit, even being from the South, we were able to bundle up and be ok most of the time during that frigid cold snap.

I bought a hooded cardigan sweater and wore it under a thin hooded windbreaker. At worst, I had to wear the hoods in the early mornings, and did not gather the guts to ride BTMRR in 30 degree weather. Brrrr.

I needed gloves but did not go to the expense. The jacket pockets were good enough most of the time.

During some mid-afternoons, I was able to pull one of the jackets off.

Edited: Disney had a nice selection of jackets to purchase. I wish I had known. I can be a little hard to fit, so I bought the first sweater I found in my size. It turns out that every gift shop had good looking sweaters. I didn't have to buy a sweater that was fire engine red (not my color).
