Well, life around here is always eventful. My DH, we've been married for 15 years, and I debated weither to pay bills or go to WDW with the income tax return. After about 2 seconds we looked at each other and said WDW!

Anyhow, that's when we bought 10 day premiums ( half this trip- half another ) and reserved 1 night at the ASM and 8 nights at POR resort. Everything is going great- we are really excited. We tell our 9 and 11 year old boys- HEY! WE'RE GOING TO WDW! Everybody is full of excitment and plans.

Then it happened- I started to feel sick- I was sick for the week - finally went to the dr and found out that no matter how careful you think you are being conception can still occure! So it's due Dec. 26, 2005. Well, I still want to go on vacation especially since this will be the last time for the next several years that we can go without the stroller act.

How do you tour the parks in the heat of summer with morning sickness?? ( the last 2 times it lasted throughout the pregnancies)?? I'm excited but am nervous that I will spend the vacation in the resort room sick. :guilty: So, if you've been there and have advice- please advise away! :grouphug:

Congrats!

I have never been PG in Disney, but just make sure you drink water often. Keep a water bottle with you.

Take a break during the day, keep your feet up or just swim in the pool.

Don't forget all the rides/indoor places are air conditioned so you won't be hot unless you are walking around.

Me neither! As I said it was a real surprise- we thought we were done with the baby phase of our lives- I'll be 41 in June so I'm not a spring chicken in this baby making business.

I told DH to set me up on the Tomorrow Land Transit A. with a big bottle of water and a mister fan - I'll rest my feet by putting them up on the opposite seat while they do Space Mtn., Teacups and the Driving cars. I can just stay on it and rest. Not sure what I'll do while they are riding Thunder and Splash. Maybe I'll try to catch the Country bears since the show is inside and airconditioned. I should be able to ride all the other rides in the park. MGM won't be too bad. EPCOT has lots of airconditioned places to rest but AK is concerning me a bit. Every time we go there it just seems so much hotter than the other parks.

Anyway, thanks for the congrats! After the initial shock- I've gotten quite happy about the whole thing.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :goodvibes

I live in Central Florida, and 'cooked' my now four year old here. We have AP's, so I have some experience with park visits while PG, in ALL stages, but I'm lacking in the 'total vacation' tips. Here are some ideas for you though....

#1. Water, and plenty of it

#2. many small meals.... graze throughout your day

#3. Lemonade... the REAL stuff. Buy yourself a small reamer, and pick up a bag of lemons and sugar to keep in your room. Make yourself some homemade fresh lemonade to take with you to the parks. This was my miracle!

#4. Saltine Crackers before you move a muscle in the morning. Yes, when your pg, you can eat crackers in bed ;)

#5. Acupressure wrist bands, sold under the name of 'Sea Bands'

#6. Ginger Tea... I'd say ginger ale, but most brands don't have enough real ginger in it to aid in nausea

#7. Realx and have fun. Plan easy days where it's only important to accomplish one or two things. After those are done, everything else you can do is bonus.

And congrats again! (My middle daughter was born on Dec. 26th :earsgirl: )

I don't have any advice except to drink plenty of water and try to stay out of the heat. I know when it's "that time of the month" and you're in the heat, it's miserable so I bet it'd be even worse when you're pregnant. So try to stay on rides that are indoors and see a lot of the indoor shows. The TTA idea sounds great. But most of all, congratulations! That's such wonderful news. My mom is the same age as you, and I wish she'd have another baby. But she told me "no way!" And she thinks it'd be weird to have an almost 20 year old, 13 year old, and a baby :confused3 Oh well, congrats again! :teeth:

Congratulations to you. I was 3 months pregnant in WDW 8 years ago.

I tried to stay in shaded or air conditioned areas as much as possible.

Buy a hat.

Buy a bandana to keep wet and have it around your neck.

Bring pretzels or crackers.

Believe it not I craved the smell of french fries. Needless to say the french fries helped my stomach not to be so upset.

Try and have a good time. :sunny:

You know the best thing about having a kid in late December? You get the tax writeoff for the whole year! :rotfl:

Seriously, congrats and have a great time.

And, even if you're not feeling well. I'd still rather not feel well at Disney than at home. ::MickeyMo

Congratulations! I've been to Disney twice pregnant. Once in Nov 98 with my first at 3 months (I was 37) and again in Oct 02 with my 3rd at 6 months (I was 41). It was very hot in Oct 2002-high 80's. I did go back to the room everyday hoping DD 3 1/2 would nap but she seemed to come alive in the A/C. I did nap! I also found that on both trips eating small meals/snacks really helped. I still remember the watermellon I got on my first trip in Epcot. It was perfect for me. I think you can still have a great trip but you will have to take it slow. I too love your TTA idea.

matt&jakesmom-how funny about the FF. When I was pregnant with my 2nd all I wanted was McDonalds.

Congratulations!!!

The same thing just recently happened to me! I was told years ago that I couldn't have anymore children and guess what? I'm now 9 weeks pregnant. My DH and I were shocked to say the least. I also just got back from a quick trip to Disney and what saved me was drinking a lot of water, eating small snacks throughout the day, resting mid day and those "sea bands"! (The sea bands were excellent!) Granted, April isn't as hot as summer so the heat wasn't too bad for me.

We are going again in July and I will be six months pregnant at the time. :teeth: Now, that should be an interesting trip! :teeth: Needless to say since I'm due on Thanksgiving, my December trip is out. I'm sending hubby and the girls down to Florida without me. I'll get some quiet time with the new baby!

I did Disney when I was about 8 weeks pregnant with my son in 2002. What helped me was lemon-aid and as one poster stated made with real lemon. Lemon is soothing. Smelling lemon also helped with major waves of nausea. The scent for some reason was calming. Ginger is soothing as well. Midwife suggest ginger ale and ginger snaps. I ate a few saltines before my feet even hit the floor in the morning. That seemed to settle my tummy. I used those motion sickness wrist bands too. They seemed to help some. I was fine during most of the trip. Not sure if these things were the reason or not but I was able to avoid long periods of nausea and never vomitted.

I also found being pregnant was a good way to get some time to just sit and enjoy BEING in WDW. Since the big, bouncy rides were out I would get a shady seat and wait for DH and DD to go on rides. I noticed lots of beauty that I would have otherwise missed had I been on those rides. It was peacefully and rejuvenating!

I hope you have a great trip and congrats!

Ok. I'm up for this one. Went to Disney over 5 months pregnant over 4th of July 1998. It was bearable. Don't do more than your body tells you too. Then if that wasn't punishment enough we went back in 2000 for 4th of July again and I was 7 months pregnant and our son was about 18 months old. Can you say the trip from hell!! Big mistake. Huge mistake. More from having an 18 month old there than being pregnant. The walking didn't bother me, even the heat and crowds didn't bother me, now the 18 month old, he bothered me. Just the wrong age to go to Disney. You will have a great time, I guanrantee it. It's magical.

Now you girls are scaring me on the pregnant thing. I'm turning 43 next month and also thought we were done. Even though the hubby had a vasectomy there are time when I wonder if it could still happen.

CONGRATS!!!

Just be glad that you know ahead of time! I went to WDW a couple of years ago and didn't know I was PG. I went on the Tea Cups and got so sick! I found out later that trip.

The best thing you can do is drink plenty of water (which you know) and get plenty of rest. Don't spend all day in the parks - go back to the room and put your feet up, take a nap, or go for a swim. Be sure to bring crackers with you to the parks and eat plenty of good food (I mean the kind with nutritional value! ;) )

Have a magical time! :wizard: And Best of luck with the pregnancy...

What a blessing! And a surprise!

I think if that happened to us (DH's is "fixed"), he would have a coronary. There's still a very big part of me that hopes he has a few swimmers left. I'd love to have three.

Anyway--I was morning sick for the entire time with both of mine. So I can appreciate. Wish I had known about sea bands--they might have done the trick. I found too much ice cold water at one time was bad--try little sips through out the day. Also--lemonade really does work. For my sister, ginger ale and root beer also worked. I also kept small candies--like Starburst or Now-N-Laters with me. I would get instantly hungry but couldn't actually swallow a dry cracker or pretzel--the candy that you have to chew helps it not be so dry in your mouth. Also--talk to your ob. For my second, they prescribed a vitamin B supplement, in addition to my pre natal vitamin. It helps with the nausea....they say sometimes women just take it the first trimester but I took it the entire time. It may not always keep you from feeling sick, but for me it kept me from getting all the way sick--which would be a little embaressing at DW--although how fun to tell people "its ok....I'm not contagious....I'm just pregnant!"

Plus you have DH and your sons who are older to fuss over you and fetch things for you....what a great time you are going to have! I wonder if they make stork Mickey ears :rotfl2:

Conratulations! I've not done WDW pregnant, but I've done theme parks whilst pregnant, at various stages of pg. You've been given a lot of good advice here! I'm glad to hear you will be going despite the adjustments you may need to make. WDW, to me, seems to be the best theme park to get the most out of it (if you're feeling up to it) while pg... lots of shows and easy Boat ride type rides you can still do! I bet you could even still do Dumbo and tell you're kiddo, "Hey you already got to go to WDW and ride Dumbo!" lol...

Best of luck to you and since it sounds like you are already sure to have another plan in the works, don't fret too much if you can't get stuff done. And who knows, maybe this time you'll be having a girl and she'll take it easy on mom! Best of luck!

I just want to add my congratulations. I'm just 31 days shy of our next trip to WDW and I'll be 5.5 months pregnant and I'm already HUGE. Plus, I'll be dealing with a 4 year old & 15 month old. And I too have the never ending morning sickness--doesn't go away until the baby is born. Unfortunately the crackers/pretzles/lemonaide/
wristbands/etc don't work for me, so I feel your pain

There are the obvious things: talk to your dr., drink plenty of water, get lots of rest/don't push yourself, avoid the restricted rides. But I've also found some less than obvious hints--if you're starting to get big, try a support belt. My dr. also recommended since it will still be a lot of walking, support hose. Take 2-3 maternity bathing suits; you'll be in and out of the pool much more than normal. If driving you need to get out and walk around every couple of hours. Stake out the restrooms. Eat well. Extra important to build up your walking endurance--slowly. Stay onsite. Find out the info. of the nearest hospital, just in case, & bring your dr. info/pertinent medical records.

Have fun!!

WOW! :grouphug: You guys are great. I was really worried that I was making a mistake by taking the vacation but I really do think we need it right now verses later.

Lots of helpful info here- I have the Sea-bands, do eat my crackers in bed :earboy2: , will drink lots of water and try out the lemonade- I'm diabetic type 2 so I have to have more lemon & water than sugar but I'll make due, and finally I'll remember just sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery. I bet the pool will feel great to float in since it takes the weight off of you when you are in the water. :cheer2:

Oh the best part- I found out that I'm not the only blessed older Mom around here!

First off, Congratulations.

Secondly, while Ive never benn pg while at disney, I did get sick one day of our trip in 2000. So dh was a wonderful sport and took our then 2 and 4 year olds on rides while I would wait in lines for shows to open and then would go in and get us all seats. I also carried crackers in my fanny pack so I could snack throughout the day.

I have never done the parks pregnant, but a belly bra would probably help.

I'm new here and don't know the rules on links, but if you do a google search for them, you will find all kinds. It gives your abdomen extra support and helps keep the weight from making your back hurt.

And Congratulations!!! :cheer2:

I cannot help on the park park except, several posters have mentioned Ginger. This is wonderful, I have several stomach problems and have a lot of nausea too. Stores like Baby's R Us etc sell a Lollipop made from Ginger. So you can pack these to take with you. Also you said that you had two boys and had sickness all the way through. I did that too with my Boy, but with my daughter it was gone for the most part after the 3-4 month range. Maybe you will have a girl this time.....Good luck and Congratulations :Pinkbounc :cloud9:

CONGRATS!!! I'm a little jealous. I've been trying to get pg for a while and it looks hopeless :guilty: I am also 43 so I guess I just have cobwebs in there (LOL). I went to WDW 7.5 mos pg with DS#1. The biggest advise I can give you is everyday at lunchtime go back to your room and nap. Make a real effort not to read or watch tv. Have lunch and then sleep. It makes a tremendous difference 2yrs ago when I was Pg w/twins Dr told me "Oh you'll be on bedrest by 7months. I'm the breadwinner and wanted my time for after the babies. So I ignored him and everyday took a nap at lunchtime and worked until I gave birth (only 2 weeks early and each twin was just over 7lbs) They are beautiful healthy boys. I'm convinced resting is the key. It also is fortunate your other children are old enough for your hubby to handle alone while your napping. A great chance for him to have alone time with them having fun. As others said its the perfect opportunity to slow down and savor a different WDW. Enjoy the airconditioned shows, shops, benches tucked away, people watch. Have a great trip!! And once again God Bless your little treasure.
