We booked a SURPRISE trip to Disney World in September! We are so excited to go as the kids ask every day if we can go. We always say - eventually we will get there, but who knows when. It has been and will continue to be hard to keep this a secret. My wife and I are so excited to go and even more excited to surprise the kids. Have you planned a surprise trip to Disney? When & how did you tell your kids/family? Also... what are some GREAT ideas for the big reveal? Our plan is to tell the kids the morning we leave. 127 days and counting.....

Thanks Disney Friends! - Topfam

How exciting for you! We've planned surprise trips a few times but our biggest surprise trip took a lot of early planning - waiting - and packing on the sly. Our mid December 2014 trip was booked in May and we had told our kids (12 & 10 at the time) that absolutely no way were we going to Disney again that year when we had just gone the year prior. Hubby decided we should keep it a secret until the night before we were leaving. Easier said than done! But I gave in and went along with it. Boy was that a long 7 months! In order to surprise the kids we wrapped up their magic bands and put them under the Christmas tree. Since the kids were used to getting a small pre Christmas gift (holiday mug, chocolates, puzzles) they thought it was something like that. Boy were they shocked to find their bands in those boxes and to then find out we were leaving the next morning! They almost didn't believe us! It was a lot of sneaking and hiding but in the end it was worth it. For other surprise trips when we told them in advance of actually leaving, once we got a cake and had the bakery write We're Going to Disney World on it, and the other time I made sugar cookies in the shape of Mickey ears for dessert as a way to share the happy news!

We surprised our 4 kids many times - we love to do that. I feel the best time is when we all played Clue. They loved to play Clue and we had the board set up already. I had set the cards with Disney characters on the cards. It was our youngest DD that was ready to solve and when she opened the envelope it had Disney pictures on each card and it said "We are going to Disney World." They were screaming. Now many years later as a joke someone will say - "Hey let's play Clue?" - we all know what they mean. We did it 2 days before. We've done scavenger hunts for gifts and the gift was a trip to DW. When they got older we did notes under their dinner plates - so the first to clean up found it. Let us know what you do. It is just so much fun.

We are still trying to decide if we are going to do a last minute surprise or make it a Christmas morning surprise for our trip in January. It's a big decision, but a fun one!

My last trip I didn't tell my son where we were going. We made it all the way to the magical express bus where they were playing movies all about Disney and he still had no clue we were going to Disney. I thought it was hilarious that he just seemed to think that every airport had magical busses that played Disney ads. He was super excited when I told him that's where we were going. He was seven at the time and had been many times before.

The trip we are planning is a surprise. The kids keep on saying "we should go to Disney" and I tell them that the only way we can go is if I win the lottery or we win a trip.
Ends up all I had to do was budget, budget, budget and save.
So now my sister (who is coming with us) and I are trying to find a way to surprise the kids.

Friends of ours have told the kids once they get into the car (on the way to the airport), Another friend wrapped suitcases for Christmas with all the Disney stuff inside (the magic bands, plane tickets and hotel confirmation), and other friend did a scavenger hunt. Think the best one was when a good friend (who was driving) just packed the car and said "lets go on a random road trip" and they ended up at Disney (kids were over the moon)

My friend made (or had made) cute shirts that had Mickey's fingers pointing up and it said "This guy is going to Disney World!" in the Disney font. She had her DSes wear them the morning they were going. That's how they found out!
