Surprise Solo Weekend Adventure Time!: An April 2015 PTR - COMPLETED 4/27!

But if it DOES all work out, and you DO spot me at Epcot (I'll be the big brunette on the Buena Vista scooter, wearing my tiara and always with something to eat or drink in my hand) then definitely do please stop and say hello! :goodvibes
I'd like to see your tiara. In fact, I wouldn't mind one for myself. princess:

We really DO need to start a purple MagicBand petition!
I painted one of my bands lavender. Maybe I'll make one purple and then everyone will ask me where I got it. :rolleyes1 It is fun to paint them. ::yes::

Oh, Billie I'm keeping all my fingers crossed for you in hopes that your solo trip will go off without a hitch!!! Ugh. I hate when I have to leave my own plans up to the fate of others' actions... :headache: But here's hoping that she'll have a change of heart... or at the very least not find another job until after you are back from an amazing trip! :thumbsup2

I got mine at the Arribas Bros. store at Downtown Disney in September. It's by far my most favorite purchase of the entire trip! :cutie:

I love looking at how people decorate their MagicBands on their own! As for me, I'm just too lazy. When I was younger I was a crafty type, but as I get older I find that I just don't have the patience for it.

I should know something tomorrow, good or bad! I think she's turning in her notice, so we'll see what happens. :scared: Praying that she writes it up so her last day is April 18th!

Me too.. i do hope it all works out for you!

Yes we NEED A PURPLE MB!!!! Figment style!
I couldn't agree more! :figment:

15 days until WDW! :hyper:
**************************************************

Hey, ya'll! :grouphug:

Well, I've made it to the 15-day mark without having to cancel this trip. Tomorrow I think I'll know more, as that's the two-week mark... This whole thing has turned into such a nail-biter! :scared: I've thought up some contingency plans, should the trip fall apart, but I'll wait and share those here, should I have to deploy them!

So! Keep calm, and carry on! Amirite?! :thumbsup2

Lookie lookie what I got, ya'll!

You can probably tell by looking at the band that this picture was taken AFTER I'd already yanked it out of the box and wore it to strut around the office for 15 minutes. So excitedddddddd!

I still haven't narrowed down my Flower & Garden food choices. :scratchin Well, I have cut out some of them in my head, but I haven't made the the official final list yet. I think I'll probably wait until the actual week of the trip for that, once I know for 100% certain that it's a go. ::yes::

Oh, and I finished my itinerary spreadsheet too, so I'll share that in my next update! :woohoo: This is also usually about when I start packing, or at least making a packing list. I'll get to work on that soon!

Yay! MagicBand!

I really hope your coworker waits until after tomorrow to give her notice ... 15 days is so soon, and who wants to cancel a trip this close? (Really, who wants to cancel a trip to Disney at all?)

About the purple magicbands - I meant to post this yesterday but I forgot - I had painted my November MB lilac, and several CMs noticed it ... and a photopass CM told me they were releasing the purple magicband soon. Obviously one CM is the most reliable source ever, so it definitely has to happen ... but for sure Disney knows there's demand, so hopefully they'll release it to meet that demand soon! (Seriously ... we've got 6 of the 7 colors between me and my sister ... we need another color soon or we'll have to start doubling up!)

Woohoo, Magic band time!!!!!!!!!!! I sure hope to see pictures in a very near future TR of your sporting that! Please, please, please, if the lady must quit, please get you through until after your trip!!! pixiedust: <-- some pixie dust for added measure!

Exaaaactly! I've come up with a worst-case-scenario back-up plan, but it's going to be expeeensive. I'm really hoping I don't end up going that route! :scared:

There really are SO many more colors they could make available. I would love to have a pretty teal, too. I understand they want to do "Limited Edition" ones that they can sell and make money off of, but do that with the ones with designs. Give us more solid-color options to choose from as part of our package! Rabble rabble rabble! :mic:

14 days (or maybe 22 days) until WDW! :confused3
**************************************************

Hey, ya'll! :grouphug:

Okay, well... She put in her notice today. She did keep her word, and wrote it up with her last day of work being April 18th, the day that everything is hinging on.

However... :rolleyes2

She has made it clear that she's miserable, and only sticking around to help me out, and that there's a good chance she may not make it until the 18th. My manager has made it clear that she would rather her just go as well, but isn't telling her to do so for one reason... me and this trip. :headache: Both of which just make me feel.. awful.

tZGVxXFPzyVvq.gif

So... I just have an overwhelming feeling that I am going to end up having to work on April 18th. :guilty: Therefore I think it might be time to tell ya'll about my contingency plan, and beg for some of that feedback that I treasure so much from ya'll.

A little about the alternate plan: My manager, Rachel (who, I should note, is also my best local friend and my "work wife"), is allowing me to take a vacation day on either Friday, April 24 or Monday, April 27 so that I can push the trip back a week (since she'll be here to cover the office).

A few days ago, I called and checked on military discount rooms for that following weekend, and April 24-26 (Fri-Sun) was going to be more expensive than April 25-27 (Sat-Mon). But even then, no value resorts. I was able to get Port Orleans French Quarter (which I've always wanted to stay at anyhow) at a good price, but not as good as the price I got for April 17-19 at All-Star Movies, obviously. But I went ahead and locked it in anyhow, just so that I had it should I need it.

Since then, I've been crunching numbers and plotting and planning and crunching more numbers. There are pros and cons to changing my weekend, but the biggest con is sort of the overruling factor... An additional $300 to make it happen. :scared: Mostly in the hotel upcharge, and the fact that I'll have to rent a car (if you recall, I was going to drive Rachel's down originally because my own car isn't road-trip worthy). That's driving the final costs up much higher than I ever planned on paying for this weekend getaway.

That being said, Rachel is sympathetic to my plight, and has offered that I MIGHT be able to just borrow her car for the weekend instead of renting one. She's going to talk to her husband tonight and make sure he can run her to work on the Saturday and Monday I will be gone, and let me know the answer this weekend. Fingers crossed on that one! :o

So, speaking of pros and cons, I made a chart, like any good little planner would:

pros-cons2.jpg

What would ya'll do? Do you think that $700-$800 is just TOO MUCH to spend for just ONE day the parks? Or is it worth it, and should I just bite the bullet and do it? :confused3 HALP PLZ!!!

I wanted to write as much advice as I could think of, but I'm a little rushed for time, so here's my bottom line:
Yes, $700-$800 is a lot for one park day ... but it's still not a 1-day trip. It's a 3 day trip - because your travel days will less rushed, you'll be able to fit in a lot more Disney fun - which may be worth the extra money!

I would totally go with the back up plan of you have to. First to get to stay at POFQ ( awesome) and also not to have to be stressed about miserable co-worker is worth it, would be for me anyway. My heart aches at the possiblilty of you having to cancel all together :flower3:. And who knows, maybe you'll get some extra $$ for your birthday or Christmas, or Easter or the 4th of July or something!!!

At least your boss is cool and is trying to help you out as best she can.

I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and if you end up having to work on the 18th maybe you were supposed to go a week later.:car:

i understand that spending the extra $300 is ouchy but you deserve it sister!

Oh, and LOVE getting that MB package on the mail!!!!! I so wish DL was doing them already!

Oh, Billie, I was so afraid of this. However, I'm so happy to hear that you're working up a contingency plan. Let me tell you what I'd do if I were you:

I'd go April 25-27. And here's why. I absolutely HATE when something takes the fun out of planning and getting excited for something. You have so much hanging over your head and the anxiety it would cause me with the whole "will she or will she not still be here?" would drive me to tears for sure and possibly to drink! Worrying about that takes some of the excitement out of actually GOING! Also, yes, the amount of money you'd be paying for this "one weekend" is certainly a lot and yes, it'll take away money that you could quite possibly be putting towards your December trip. However, the heartbreak, if it were me, would be too unbearable - to think I'd be at Disney and then NOT go?! Oh god. Horrible. Plus the added advantage of going a week later is that after that first weekend is over with you still have your trip ahead of you and not behind you!!! Also you can't look at the money as just being for the one park day. You'd get to stay at a resort you've always wanted to and for fewer days so it won't rack up the cost that you would be shelling out if it was a longer trip. And BONUS if your boss can lend you her car! Fingers crossed for that!!!

So... hope that helps! And doesn't make it more confusing and painful of a decision. Sending you a big hug! I want you to get to Disney this month almost as you want you to get to Disney this month!!! :rotfl:

You're so right! It will be nice to be able to spend some time at DTD on my arrival day, and I DID nab a pretty cool breakfast ADR for my departure day (more on that later). Hmm... :scratchin

I think you're right about everything happening for a reason. Not to mention that the last 6 months since I got back from WDW have been really crazy, and I have definitely earned my escape from it all, if only for one weekend. And I really DO love the idea of finally staying at POFQ, even if it is going to cost a little more. :cutie:

Well, to add an opinion from an interested onlooker, it was so exciting to read how the trip initally came together, and sounded so exciting! I am sure that your boss appreciates you trying to be flexible and accommodating, but wasn't the point of the trip really to go down to tour the Disney Magic in the first place? I'm a manager of a small department (8 of us in total) and one of the bummer things about being the manager is that if things fall through for an employee, it's actually *my* job to be the flexible one and cover the situation somehow, so since you already had the trip planned and rooms booked, there would be NO WAY that I would be making you change those plans. But of course, Disney plans should be understood as sacred anyways, shouldn't they? :)
So the idea was for me to drive down and meet up with her there to do the tour of the Disney Magic, because for months she has had planned a family vacation to Universal Orlando for her Potter-obsessed 12-year-old daughter's birthday. So actually, HER trip takes priority during the weekend in question, which I absolutely 110% totally understand and support. Not only has she had her trip booked for MUCH longer that I have, but even if she offered, no way would I allow her to cancel her trip and disappoint her kiddo just for my own last-minute plans. But the fact is that somebody has to stay in town and work that Saturday, and if our third person in our 3-person office quits, that only leaves me. I get the reasoning, it's not her fault or anybody's really. The whole thing just sucks! So by pushing my own trip back, I'm losing the tour of the Magic and some extra money, but I'm gaining more time at WDW and a more relaxed pace. I think I need to study my Pros/Cons list more. :goodvibes

Thank you for the advice and kind words, Tracy! Everything you said does make whole lot of sense. I really do not want to have to worry about this anymore, and just be HAPPY and EXCITED! :hyper: Sadly, the answer came back on the car as a No, so I will be renting a car for the weekend. Which I already have booked, and my bosslady is even going to do me a solid and take me to pick up the rental car on Saturday morning. That will help me get on the road earlier, so that it's awesome. I think that I'm pretty much set now on going April 25-27. I think the final final final decision might come down on Monday at work... That's when I will probably cancel the stuff I have booked for April 17-19, if that's what it's coming down to. Honestly, I'm kinda looking forward to it. I'm ready to not be stressed about this anymore! :faint: Not to mention that when I get back from this April trip, I'll only have to wait another week or two for the December park hours to be released, and I can dive into that part of planning for the next trip! :thumbsup2

We are planning on grazing our way through the food booths and do have one ADR for San Angelo our first day at EPCOT, but my DH wants to cancel it. I'm going to hold on to the ADR for now. I think there is enough food to be offered at the booths that there is no need to have a sit down meal. Plus it's quick and easy.

It sucks to have a wrench through in your plans, but I think everything will turn out okay, maybe even better. You new plans sound great!

I think cancelling my Tutto Italia lunch reservation was the right choice, particularly since this might be my only chance to visit the Flower & Garden festival, and I'm only going to be at Epcot from opening until 1:30pm or so (because I want to try to make it over to Magic Kingdom in time for the Festival of Fantasy parade). So knowing that I only have about 4 hours in Epcot, I just don't want to spend a chunk of that time on an ADR. I'd rather nom from booths and continue seeing what there is to see of F&G until it's time to catch the monorail!:flower:

Thanks! I'm just looking forward to getting everything settled. I hate all this "in limbo" stuff, it's directly at odds with my super-planner mentality! :scared:

Well, that does make sense too. You guys are such a good team, I hope you find another person to work with you who is a team player too.
We really ARE a good team, we've both acknowledged how lucky we are to have each other. Sometimes we butt heads or disagree on certain points, and I have to remember to back down because she IS the boss, but I'm very fortunate that we're also such good friends, too. :cutie:

UPDATE!!!

Well, it's official. Changed it in my signature and everything... My new dates are April 24-27. Yes, I added a night, and also a 2nd day in the parks. And 2 ADRs. More details forthcoming! (I'm currently in the midst of frantically changing my Fastpasses, etc!) :hyper:
