"Surprise Mornings", what's going on?

Is early entry, aka "Surprise Mornings" still offered to Disney Resort guests? I see the schedule on this site, but have heard different things. Did they do away with it for a while? I am planning for August, and this is pretty important!

I did read on another board from a recent visitor that they are only doing them when needed as of right now. I don't know how true that is but someone said they did it like that before.

No that is not true. Here's why you're confused. EE was taken down at the end of October 2001. It was replaced with the Character Caravan. That was lame. Anyway, they brought back EE under a different name than surprise mornings - now it is called "Extra Magic Hour," and it is a set schedule just like EE was. It is not on an "As needed" basis" - for now at least, it is a permanent schedule.

you can find the days here along with the attratctions that are open during this time:

I'm not confused. I know all about EE. I was just relaying a post about someone just returning from WDW this week. The poster said they only had EMH one day and it was at AK. She was told that they are doing the EMH on an as needed basis starting this past week. I said I don't know how true it is as I was there 3 weeks ago and didn't pay any attention since we do not use EMH. Someone else wrote and they also said the same thing.

I was there last week & did EE at Epcot on 5/14. As far as I know, they were on the regular schedule.

So has EMH changed in recent days or not. Will the days still be the same as posted on various websites?

From reading another post, it seems that there was a marathon or triathalon something along those lines at WDW, so they had to shift the Early Morning surprise parks schedule around the event
schedule.

Sorry - I guess I was the confused one. ha ha ;)

I usually walk around in a confused state most the time so I know how you feel! LOL!

OK, EMH was on every day between May 13 and 19th = on Sunday May 18th due to the Danskin marathon, the EMH was moved from MK to AK but I do not think it was obviously published - it was in the times and info guide but may not have been noticed by people not looking for it. DS and I (DH) went to AK for the EMH on the Sunday and it was pretty quiet even for the AK. The EMH for MK was moved to Monday May 19th as a result (which would have been the AK day)

thanks

I also was there last week and was somewhat confused when Disney switched EMH park days on us! However, we WERE told at check-in and in the literature about the change and everything worked out just fine.

BTW, by using Fastpass and doing the EMH/switch to another park routine, we managed to avoid nearly ALL lines. Because we didn't feel we needed to go to Epcot's EMH, we went to MGM on Wed. morning and rode RNR FOUR times in a row and TT once in an hour's time. We also saw Indiana Jones with no wait whatsoever (just walked in at show time). We had similar experiences at other parks (though Wed. night at MK was a different story!). I had to admit that the rumours about park attendance being down seemed to be true this past week. We always go during this week and have never had such good luck with the crowds.

Okay, so everything is the same as on the websites? You got me scared I thought I was going to have to change my schedule around again!

didn't they used to have all of the attractions open for the old surprise mornings? i remember a couple of years ago at MK hitting pirates, jungle, BTMRR, and haunted mansions all before 9am , we did most of the rides that day by 11:30. or is my memory faulty (a very real possibility)

Not unless they changed it one year - but in 1996, and then in 2000, and part of 2001, it was only certain rides open during EE at least when I went.
