My youngest daughter has to have surgery to remove a jewelry bead from her nose! We go in early tomorrow (Thursday) morning. Tuesday she came up and told me she put a bead in her nose, but I couldn't see it. I called the ped and they said to bring her in. Sure enough, she had it way on up there. The ped couldn't get it out so she sent me to the ER. They couldn't get it out either ($150 copay down the drain...), so this morning we went to our ENT. No luck again today so she is off to surgery tomorrow morning. I'm so glad she told me she did it or I would have never known. Poor girl, she just had her second set of tubes put in a little over a month ago. She is three and has been put under three times now. :( Please keep us in your thoughts tomorrow! I really want it out, I've been a nervous wreck sleeping with her making sure it doesn't go on down and chock her. This little bead is going to cost us about $500 when it is all said and done.

Wonder if I can sell it on ebay? :p If someone can get $50+ for a DVC Tink pin, why not a ~used~ Hello Kitty bracelet bead?

A childhood friend did the same with a peanut when pretending to be an elephant. He was a few years older, but being a boy and doing dumb things by nature and all... It was more dangerous waaaay back in the 1960s

we'll keep small one in our prayers. happy recovery

my cousin did this when she was little. My grandmother was standing next to her and she kept smelling something strange. Then my cousin started complaining that her nose hurt. Gran took her to the dr's. He pulled a bean out of the nose. My grandmother said after that bean came out it was the most awful smell in the world. Who knows how long it was there. Good luck to your dd.

My thoughts are with you. My 2 year old put a tic tac up his nose 2 days ago. Luckily it wasn't up that far but put me into a panic.

I'll fess up. I did it with a bean...Luckily my mom was able to use one of those sucker things to get it out...

My sister did it with a pepper seed!!!!! Talk about a burn!!!!!

They were able to get it out without surgery, though.

Your daugher must have really done a great job of getting it up there =)

And who knows about Ebay... people seem to buy ANYTHING on there!!!!!!!!! =) LOL

I work at a preschool, a couple of weeks ago one of my kids put a bean up her nose, we were able to get it out, no problem, then a week or two later a boy got playdough stuck up his nose, now that was hard.

Oh no! I hope the surgery is easy for your daughter and that she recovers quickly.

My thoughts are with you also. My little brother did this when he was around 2-3. He shoved a friendship bead up his nose. We went to the ER and they tried to get it out, but no luck. He would've had to have surgery too if he hadn't sneezed it out while at the ER.

Hope all goes well. Give us an update when you get a chance.

Shan, maybe you should let her sniff some pepper or something that will make her sneeze! Well...if it worked once it might work again.

Seriously, good luck. She'll do fine. It's you I'm worried about. Been through all of that with my kids and going through it again with grandkids. It still isn't any fun.

Ahhhhh, kids. Hope all goes well, and she is up and about by the time she comes home. My best.

I'm SO sorry to hear that!! I have a 2yr old DD...I guess I need to watch her more closely....look how common this is!!!

My thoughts and prayers are with you...please post and let us know when she is safely home!!

For heaven's sake, a bead in your nose and no food after midnight. Let us know how the surgery goes. I'll be thinking about the both of you.

Shan,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and DD. My neice did this with a pearl when she was 4; luckily, she sneezed it out while at the ER.

As for the bead, don't sell it - use it to make a piece of jewelry! Think about it - lots of mothers have necklaces with childrens' birth stones, but how many have a necklace with a bead that's been up their daughter's nose !?!

awww...poor girl - hope everything comes out all right! ;)

My brother was known for shoving things up his nose - candy corn, legos, my barbie's shoes ( )...one time he shoved an M&M REALLY far up there and my mom couldn't get it out. She freaked out and called his pediatrician...he said to boil some water and make him stand over the steam with a towel over his head.

20 minutes later he had melted chocolate running out of his nose. heheh

my mom called the ped. back to thank them and he said "No problem...of course, if it had been a Skittle, totally different story!"

I hope she is OK! My son did the same thing when he was three, only it was a piece of styrofoam in his ear. Luckily they were able to remove it by giving him a sedative to make him drowsy rather than full anesthesia. I guess with your daughter maybe better the nose than the ear though...

My husband stuffed an M&M up his nose when he was two. My panicked MIL called the doctor to see what she should do. The doctor's reply was "Don't worry, it will melt". LOL! Ewwww....

I like your thinking, you never know what that bead will fetch on E-Bay! :)
