When DD was little she put a unpopped popcorn kernel up her nose. Luckily when I held the other nostril she blew and it came out. I was so afraid she would sniff and not blow. Anyway I'm very careful to pull out all unpopped kernels for younger DD so I don't have that problem again. Good luck today.

What is it with kids putting things up their noses?

My brother put a corn kernel up one nostril when he was about 3. He had to be taken to the ped and later to the hospital to get it removed. They weren't able to remove it, but they told my mom that he would probably pass it in his stools.

My DD stuck a piece of paper up one nostril when she was about two. Her nose started bleeding and the "stuffed" nostril was noticeably stuffed. I couldn't see anything because she wedged it way up there. After several tries of having her blow her nose,while closing off one nostril, she expelled it.

I hope all goes well for your DD. Let us know how she does.

I have a friend whose son swallowed a coin. It came out a few days later in his stool. She cleaned the coin and framed it along with the story. It is quite the conversation piece at her house.

My DD just had her first stitches. The nurse who removed them put them in a specimin jar for us to take home and put in her baby book. They look like little spiders.

OMG....I thought my dopey brother was the only one to have shoved something up his nose. When he was little (3 or 4 ??) he pushed a lego (one of the very little red ones that were suppose to be used as a tail light on a car) up his nose. When asked why he did this, he responded "I wanted to see if it would fit." Well, off to the ER my parents took him. The surgeon couldn't get it out and said he would have to cut his nose open. An intern said he would give it a final try and amazingly he was able to pull it out with tweezers. Even today when we talk about it, he will still say he did it to see if it would fit in his nose. (he's turning 25 this month)

Good luck with your daughter, hopefully with another try they will be able to get the bead out.

According to my Mom, I put someting up my nose too when I was young. Nothing would get it out. They took me to the ER, waited for eons, filled out all the forms, etc., finally get to the exam room and the doctor walks in... One look at his white coat and I burst out in tears and the item in nose nose pops out! It was the easiest and quickest cure the doctor had that day. To this day my parents still complain that they should have made me cry instead of wasting the money on emergency room charges (no insurance in those days). Lol!

I admit it....I did this too! I think I was about 4 or 5. I was playing in the back yard and found this pretty little pink bead on the ground, under the pink rosebush (this memory is vivid in my mind! ). I figured, if the pink roses smelled like roses, than the pink bead laying under the bush would HAVE to smell the same!! One sniff and up it went!! My mom tried to get it out with tweezers...no luck! Off to the ER I went where I can remember so many different people sticking pointy things up my poor little nose Finally, all my screams attracted the attention of a doctor, who came in to see me crying, covered in blood. He scolded the interns and sent one of them down to the cafeteria for some pepper. One sniff (which is what got me in that mess to begin with ) and the bead flew across the room!

Would you believe that after all that, they WOULDN'T give me my bead back???!!!!

I think it was dime my sister put up her nose when she was little..but somehow that seems too big..I'll have to ask her..she had to go to the doc to have it pulled out..... She said she didnt want to lose (whatever it was) and thought that would be a good place to keep it....

Add me to the list of kids who did this when they were little. I was about 3 or 4 and stuck a 'tiddly wink' up my nose while watching tv, I think I did it subconsciously because I never knew why I did it. My parents couldn't get it out so off to the ER I went where they got it out there. All I remember is how upset I was that I didn't get it back (my game was missing peices now! ) but our neighbor at the time was an ER nurse at the same hospital and retrieved it for me so my game wasn't missing any peices. Come to think about it, I wonder what ever happened to it! LOL!

My neighbor put blueberries up her nose when we were kids, but her mother was able to get her to blow them out.

Sounds like this is a pretty common occurrence!

She did just great with the anesthesia and woke up in a fine mood. They brought out the bead in a plastic jar, which I have already put her wristbands from the ER plus today's surgery in it along with all the receipts from the last few days. (To show her what a little expensive bead that was.) I figure this will be a nice item to bring out and show when she gets married.

She told them in the OR that she put the bead in her nose cause her sister was singing too loud and driving her crazy. HUH? I guess she hears through her nose! They all got a kick out of that and mentioned several times we are now part of the frequent flyer program.

Now I can sleep well tonight! The ENT told me there was no way anyway that sucker was moving so it wasn't a choking hazard. It was nicely jammed up in there. Pretty pink bead my daughter told them.

I guess this is better than the story my hubby heard the other day - a co-worker's cousin was having bad headaches. They discovered a huge mass and during surgery discovered it was a pea she had put up her nose that had sprouted in numerous directions!

Hopefully, life will be back to normal now if you want to call it that!

Nothing up the nose here, but when my DD2.5 was 18 months old, she swallowed a nickel (her big sister gave it to her). Unfortunately it stuck in her esophogus just below the epiglotis (sp?). It kept triggering her gag reflex, but all the puking still didn't dislodge it. Eventually she had to be put under anesthesia to have it removed. The dr gave it to us and it is still in its specimen jar on our mantle. Thedr made us promise not to give it back to her. DH figures we will give it to her when her first child is born.

I would put the bead on a pretty chain (after you clean it well) and give it to her when she turns 16 or maybe when she has a kid. Just a little reminder...

DS swallowed a quarter on vacation last year and I have a pretty x-ray to trot out and embarrass him with years from now!!
