surgery before trip - am I crazy? UPDATED!!!!

Just make sure no one bumps into you.

I've found there are a lot of groups walking that stop abruptly and avoid elbows and running children like the plague

if i were you i would also try to postpone the surgery. i had my gb out like 3 years ago. i was out of work for a few extra weeks, had an infection and very sore also. im not trying to burst your bubble but thats a chance you will take. some people bounce back, but i know they did not want me to lift for 1 - 2 weeks. i hope all works out for you.

I think everybody reacts to surgery in different ways. I had my gall bladder out 4 years ago at age 58. They kept me in the hospital over night, mainly because I am diabetic. I missed 3 days of work but could probably have gone back the next day. I had a little discomfort but no real pain.

My daughter had her's removed and they just kept her a couple of hours after surgery. She wasn't in much pain but she was very sick for 3 or 4 days.

I would go and not worry about it. You can always relax around the resort if necessary.

Sorry OI didn't get chance to update before now, things were really crazy at work with me having to take off 2 weeks instead of the one origannly planned. Well - I had my gallbladder removed yesterday, surgery went well (the doc gave me a videotape of it!) With the size of my gall stones the doctor said it was a good thing I didn't wait until after our trip. Both my daughter and I talked to him about it after surgery and he said I should be fine for WDW as long as I take it easy the next couple of days. Thankfully, I've not really had too much pain yet, not near as much as I was expecting. Thanks for all the pizie dust and please keep blowing a little this way princess:

Glad to hear it's done and over with! Now on with your trip! I'm glad everything worked out for you and you're feeling better...

:D

Glad to hear you are going to be able to go. It looks like we are arriving the same day.:D

Glad to hear you had the surgery done and are well on your way to a full recovery!

I had mine out Nov. 5 after living with pain for 15 years (I was only 29 when I had the surgery done.) Mine was an emergency surgery, I never knew my gallbladder was the cause of my pain. No docter ever pointed to it!
Anyways, it was infected, I had to stay overnight and it took me a week before I felt better. I also had reactions to the pain meds given me, so that just made it worse.
Wasn't allowed to drive for six weeks, not sure why, but it was tough.

Hope you are feeling much better and have a wonderful trip!

hi glad you did dood with your surgery i'd like to suggest to anybody that thinks they are having gallbladder problems get it checked out so you don't mess Christmas or something else up like i did two years ago should have listened to my mom but instead suffered christmas eve at work wouldn't stop at hospital to get help thought i was having a heart attack nothing eased it and i mean nothing missed out on christmas eve dinner christmas day ate one spoon full of dressing and dh had to take me to emergany room don't remember christmas evening knocked out on sofa at home. went to doctor the next day he set up a scan for the next tuesday told me to take the week end off but i told them i was going back to work sat. when i got home probably not an hour later i called mom and had her take me back to the hospital they put me in the that day and did test one of the gallstones had escaped and it was causing pancreatious [sorry on spelling] the next tuesday the did a erc something where they go down your throat and get the stone i think that was worse than the surgery don't remeber waking up that day got out of hosptial new years eve or day went back to work on jan 13 with a lifting restriction on 30 lbs for a month everybody helped me at work so our cake decorator could get a much needed vacation. so sorry this is long the moral of the story is gallblader surgery is the best thing next to icecream now i don't need antacids or stuff but every once in a while if i eat something really bad. the key to getting over it was walking and i'm over weight. i just want anybody going through major constant heart burn or other stomach troubles not to suffer for months and then going through a major attack it could have been a lot worse for me if i had not had that attack and had to have something done. i hope you feel as good as i have since having it out:bounce: :bounce:

Hi! I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better. I just had the same surgery on Fri., the 21st. I'm feeling a lot better, but definitely not up to par. I'm even worried about my 4th of July trip. Please be sure to take it easy and definitely get a wheelchair. Enjoy your trip!

Glad to hear that your surgery went well. I knew you would do just fine. :D Take it easy the next few days and then enjoy your trip! Just plan on taking it a little slower this trip and plan for the heat. I just got back and it was hot and humid. Have a great trip! I will continue to send good thoughts and pixie dust your way. When you get back, let us know how you made out.
