Surfing School

Has any one or do you know someone who has been to the Surfing School experience at Disneys Typhoon lagoon and can give me some opinions, tips or a review. Thought that maybe some one form the Dis team might have experienced it.

I am thinking of booking this for the three teenage boys in our party this July, they are 19, 16 and 14.

I work at TL and watch the surf school often. The instructors come from Cocoa Beach. They have instructors in the water with the students helping them, on the "walls" of the wave pool and our TL lifeguards are also in the water and on stand. It's a much safer environment than heading over to Cocoa and jumping in the ocean! The waves are controlled so that the students are able to really set themselves up and practice their skills. I've also noticed that the class is attended by various ages and skill levels, so the experience will be different depending on what you bring to it. I've seen them start out on land, showing the moves and then move to the water. It's video-taped for posterity, and there are photos done as well. Usually, the guests end up spending the day at the park and I've heard nothing but positive comments about their experience.

All in all, it seems like a terrific idea for your boys to learn a new skill or perfect something that they've already tried.

my kids did this course 3 times when they were teens and LOVED it..

this is from the surfing class at typhoon lagoon...
my daugther, who's 3 years older, also took the class....i never scanned her picture (i scanned DS's pic for his wedding)...

they took the course over 3 consecutive years....the first year, my husband also took it....but once he saw how safe everything was, he sat out on the side and watched with me...

you have to get to Typhoon Lagoon really early in the morning, before the disney transportation starts....so if you don't have a rental car, you'll have to take a taxi (we always rent)...

it's really cool to see TL early in the morning that way, before anyone else is there....it's so nice and peaceful....

What: About three hours of surfing instruction, which will include 1/2 hour of land-side instruction

Where: Typhoon Lagoon Water Park

Who: WDW Resort Guests, age 8 years and older. Participants must be strong swimmers.

When: Monday, Tuesday, and Friday mornings from 6:45 to 10 a.m., unless park opens one hour early for Extra Magic Hour, in which case the surf school starts and ends an hour earlier.

Class Size: up to 13 people. Two instructors will be present. Spectators welcome.

Cost: $150 per person (tax included). Price does not include general admission to Typhoon Lagoon once lesson is finished.

Payment: Pay when you arrive at Typhoon Lagoon. Cash, credit card, travelers checks, and room charge will be accepted.

Surfboards: Guests must use the soft-side surfboards provided.

Waiver: Each guest will be asked to sign a waiver.

Transportation: Guests will need to provide transportation to Typhoon Lagoon. Disney Buses will be operating after the class to take guests back to their WDW Resort Hotel or to other locations at Walt Disney World.

Reservations: Call WDW-PLAY (939-7529) up to 90 days in advance.

I think your boys would like to try this...I know my brothers and I would love to try this. There are some videos on youtube if you want to check out some videos. Looks cool!
