Surf and Turf Disney Style…..30 days of food on land and at sea! 06/16 WPE

It's wonderful to be reading another terrific review of yours Karin! I'm very grateful you and Tom get to travel to the world often so I can live vicariously through your reviews and drool-worthy pictures. :worship: Looking forward to more! :thumbsup2

I had a couple of those strawberries, greatest thing ever! My favorite thing of all was the chocolate covered caramel with the sea salt. MMMMgood! I was a bad girl for eating those yummies, this girl is not allowed to eat chocolate! But what happens in Disney stays in Disney, right!?

It's funny, because I just caught up on Brooks TR and she reviewed both those places as well! :rotfl2:

And now I am so hungry...for caramel.

It's wonderful to have you here as well and to hear that you enjoy the reviews! :goodvibes
Lots more to come. I really hope to find more time to update in the near future. ;)

They sell some really yummy things in there, don't they? It is not what you would find in the REAL Germany, but as long as it tastes so good ...... ;)
And now and then I little "sin" has to be allowed, hasn't it?

I went over to Brooke's TR to read. :thumbsup2 I so easily fall behind on my subscribed TR :sad2:

The caramel in the Germany pavillion is just wonderful, isn't it? There are just too many yummy treats to try. ;)

Day 8, August 20

Fife and Drum Tavern

Before we left Epcot we picked up a few more snacks at the Fife and Drum Tavern.

We were both thirsty, so we got a large Diet Coke (no photo, but I guess you all have seen a Diet Coke before. )

We had tried some pretzels on a previous trip and so we got

two pretzels, a Jalapeno Cheese Stuffed Pretzel and a Cream Cheese Stuffed Pretzel. We asked the CM to wrap both of them up a bit, as we wanted to take them with us.
Back at OKW we snacked on them in the afternoon. We warmed them up a bit in the microwave and they were both very good, the Jalapeno one being both our favourite, because it was a bit more spicy.

What we saved using the FREE Disney Dining Plan:
Total number of credits - 16 TS, 16 CS and 16 snacks
TS: Le Cellier: 124 $ (4 TS credits remain)
CS: La Cantina de San Angel: 19.60 $ (2 CS credits remain)
Snacks: Fife and Drum Tavern : 12,50 $ (4 credits remain)

Total saved: 714,90 $

Next up - Jiko

Please tell Tom that I so look forward to his calendar! I hope he is feeling better. :)
I love those jalapeño pretzels!:cloud9:

I'm glad you enjoyed the pretzels and have to agree in that the Jalepeno pretzel is amazing! :goodvibes

Count me as another one who has been enjoying the calendar - just like a kid though I've been trying to open doors before they should be opened and am getting told to come back on the day! :lmao:

That pretzel was so good! Can't wait to get another one! :thumbsup2

The Jalapeno pretzel is awesome! We really enjoyed it! :thumbsup2

Good to hear that you love the calendar! :rotfl2: for trying to open them early! Tom had to "invent" that for our friend Mary Ellen, who always seems to be very impatient. ;)

Hi Karin
I love the cream cheese pretzels but I have never tried the jalepeno ones, are they very hot?

These pretzels are really yummy, aren't they? The Jalapeno one has just a tiny bit of a kick to it. :thumbsup2

LOVE the jalapeno pretzels... not too spicy but has just a tad bit of kick. :goodvibes

Glad you love them too, Ann ...... not much longer and you will get to enjoy one! :thumbsup2

Day 8, August 20

Jiko

We still had four TS credits left, so we decided to have a look at available ADRs online and Jiko had availability, so this is where we wanted to have dinner.

We arrived there a little before our ADR and walked through the lobby before we headed downstairs to sign in.
The host asked us to take a seat and wait for a few minutes, but it didn't take long and we were led to our table.

Our server was super friendly and after taking our orders for drinks, she brought out hot towels to wipe our hands.

Then we received a

basket full of several types of bread and some yummy

IMG_1018.jpg

spiced butter. The bread was slightly warm, soft and fresh and we both enjoyed it very much.

It took only about 10 minutes until our main courses were served. Tom had ordered

IMG_1022.jpg

the Braised Beef Short Rib, served Truffled Potato Puree, Pearl Onions, Baby Carrots, and Cabernet-Tamarind Sauce. The short rib was unbelievably tender and could be cut with a fork. The sauce added a wonderful taste to it. The puree was soft and creamy and had just an ever so light hint of truffle and it matched perfectly with the veg, which still had some bite. :thumbsup2

I had opted for

IMG_1021.jpg

the Grilled-marinated Berkshire Pork Loin with Tanzanian "grits", wilted heirloom mustard greens, tomato preserves and mustard jus. I was amazed, the pork loin was very juicy and soft and the grits were the perfect accompaniment! The greens and tomato preserves had just a light hint of mustard and were wonderful on their own but went perfectly well with the meat too. We both enjoyed it a lot.

Tom chose

IMG_1032.jpg

One Last Cup, Tanzanian Chocolate and Kenya Coffee Mousse with cinnamon mascarpone, nutty chocolates and "hot chocolate", which not only looked pretty on the plate, but tasted heavenly. The chocolate mouse had a nice strong coffee taste and worked well with the "hot chocolate".

I had seen something on the menu that I definitely wanted to try,

IMG_1026.jpg

IMG_1027-1.jpg

the Coconut Bread Pudding - Warm bread pudding with caramel rum sauce, toasted coconut and caramel ice cream, which was heaven on earth. The bread pudding was soft and sweet and it worked perfectly well with the ice-cream. I was in dessert heaven.

After we had settled the bill we decided to pay a visit to Krispy Kreme and pick up two and a half dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts. One dozen we handed to the guards at the entrance of OKW who always make us feel so special and the other dozen we delivered to the front desk of OKW, thanking the CMs for their services.

We then drove to our villa and later that night Tom worked on his beers

IMG_1038-1.jpg

and NO, he did not finish them all, we took them with us on the DREAM.

We both had a

Krispy Kreme doughnut lateron and around midnight we went to bed after having packed up the last of our stuff.

Wonderful Jiko review! That dessert looks fabulous. I'm trying to get my sister to do another "sisters" trip again next year and Jiko is one of the places I want to try! And how sweet are you to give out Krispy Kremes to CMs, that is amazing. :littleangel: It must make them feel great that guests are thinking about them.

I'm glad you enjoyed your meal at Jiko and got to try the Coconut bread pudding...it looks amazing!

Oh, thank you, Kat!
You know, the security people and sometimes the ones at the front desk are the CMs that get the least recognition, so we just like to show them that we really love what they do. ;)

That is a truely wonderful dessert that Johnny and I had ..... I hope they keep it on the menu, it's so good.

We really loved our visit to Jiko, especially since we had cancelled it a few days before and then were lucky enough to get another ADR on short notice.
I really hope your sister agrees to another "sister" trip!
Handing out doughnuts to the CMs is kind of a tradition for us. It is just so much fun to see the expression on their faces - first they can't believe and then they smile a really big smile! Love it!
