Does any one have any suggestion to suprise a 5 yo with the disney trip? He is my nephew and we are going Feb. 23-28 and we want to surprise him. We were going to wait untill the morning that we leave, wake him up and tell him we are going to Disney World. But does anyone else have any other suggestions to give him a good surpirse? :scratchin

I shopped the clearance racks at the local Disney Store before our Dec DL trip and found some great bargains--including a ball cap. DS5 LOVED his ball cap. I mean LOVED as in wouldn't remove it! I wanted him to wear his ears :earsboy: and he was having NOTHING of it! He had to wear his new Mickey cap all day and all night.

You just never know what's going to catch their fancy. If you have a Disney Store nearby, check them out. If not, check the Disney Direct clearance on eBay.. If you have enough time, SOMETHING will catch your eye!

Good luck and happy planning!

Has he ever been there before?? I think it would be fun to not tell him where you are going and say you are just taking a trip and then when he see's the Castle for the first time... it will be priceless!!! How exciting for him!! Have a great time! :flower: :flower:

:cool1: As you are leaving say that (put a name of person in family) has to go on a buisness trip and that we are going to say goodbye to him. When halfway their just go and by the way were going to disneyworld! I did that and the look on their faces was priceless!

We took our five year old granddaughter to Disney World a few years ago. Poor girl had no clue what was going on. We drove there (I'm assuming you are flying). We just told her we were going to visit her soon-to-be stepfather's (my son) family in Florida. That was true - the soon-to-be grandparents on both sides were joining us.

My son kept her occupied when we got to the Orlando area so she didn't see the billboards with Mickey et al on them. When we finally got to World Drive and were coming up on the first purple sign, I turned around and said "Marlie, do you remember when I said I'd take you to Disney World?" She smiled and said "yeah". I said "today is the day". The look on her face was priceless.

Other things - start now and get some inexpensive Disney stuff (dollar stores have some things - Target and Wal Mart are good too). Wrap each in tissue paper and make a grab bag. Every hour, your nephew can take one out and play with it. He gets to pick. For our now seven year old granddaughter, I was able to get flash cards, coloring books, notepads, sticker books, and things like that to keep her occupied on a long car trip.

Have fun!

Thanks everyone those are really good ideas. We have been there before about 2 yrs ago and he absolutely loved it that's why we're so excited to surprise him this time. Last time we went we planned the trip a year in advance and we want this one to be special and spontaneous. :sunny:

We're surprising our kids with a trip in just over three weeks. I've done up a Disney box for each of them. They all have matching disney baseball hats in them, the girls have princess wallets with some spending money, ds has a fanny pack with money. They have disney journals and some trinkets like little phones and pens ect.

We are telling them the morning that we leave. The grandparents are all coming over for a coffee just to watch while we give them their boxes. We're also going to pop their boarding passes in the box so they can see we're leaving now. Since it's winter here they won't notice the shorts missing. I've been buying disney shirts from the disney store so we'll have everything packed without them knowing. I'll just lose some pants in the laundry over the last week to pack too.

Although my nieces knew where we were going on our last trip, I did surprise them by making them care packages from Mickey Mouse. I found these giant Mickey gift bags and filled them with all sorts of items I either purchased (Disney Deals is a great site for finding discounted items) or made (I made them t-shirts, custom wrapped candy bars, and coloring books). When they woke up the morning we were leaving I pointed to the bags and said, "Look what Mickey Mouse left for you when you were sleeping!" They loved it and had tons of things to play with on the plane.

I am doing an "Arrival Basket" for my DS6. I've got him a Pal Mickey, Safari Mickey (since we are staying at AKL and doing the safari) an autograph book and pen, an epcot passport book, disney dollars, a sorcerer mickey light up hat, a camera, a mr. potatoe head...... ( you can get "parts" for it at some of the stores there) and a buzz spinner.

I am also making "mickey ear" notes......... from Mickey, to leave out for him each night........ they'll tell him what the plan is for the next day........ like mickey is leaving the notes for him.

I am going to get the CM at check-in to give him his arrival basket, saying that it is from Mickey...........

There is a lot you can do........... I went to the fairygodmailer post, and had a wonderful person (CM) send him some postcards from Mickey and Minnie, telling him they were excited he was coming!! You have plenty of time to set that up.......... I think it's under the paying it forward thread. OR if you'd like, PM me his name, address and dates you are going, and I'll send him a postcard. We are going in 2 weeks, and I'd be more than happy to do it for you.

We also got him some clothes and a hat from the disney store......... but, he picked those out!!! I know you can also buy an arrival basket from the WDW florist site, or you can see what gifts of a lifetime might have. I actually went on Ebay and got most of my items. Good Luck and have fun............ I'm sure he'll have a magical time!!!!
