Support Group - 10 lbs or less

So, I've been missing for quite awhile. Summer has really put a kink in my routine. With DH only teaching one class 3 days a week, we have been taking long day trips with the kids and by the time I get home I'm exhausted. But I have been following everyone's awesome successes! Way to go on the all the races I've been reading about. It's awesome how excited everyone is and how well ya'll are doing. I'm jealous!

MommyMcQueen - I can't believe they restarted you and didn't give you something to drink! I think that would have killed my concentration and I would have walked the whole course. I think you did great under the circumstances.

Even though my routine has been off, I'm grateful I've only fluctuated about 3 lbs. up or down. I'm hoping this week I'll get back on track and be able to see a permanent drop and finally break my plateau.

Thanks for the inspiring stories!

Awesome tatoo Kolohe!!! It is beautiful! Very impressive, I could never do something like that!

Thanks for the encouragement Kolohe and Steves1bear - I am feeling a bit better about that 10K - getting over the disappointment and just accepting it for what it was, I was only 5 min off my goal which isn't all THAT bad.

So, last night I went for a run, and I guess I was on a bit of a mission. ;) Looking for a little redepmtion from that awful, evil 10K. And I had my Best.Run.Ever. 7.2 miles in 1:16. I felt great the entire way - it was cool, beautiful night, I felt like I could have gone even further but was satisfied getting in 7. I don't know where all this energy was on Saturday when I needed it!??! It was definitely the boost I needed, it was a fun run. I felt like I pushed myself the entire way and didn't even seem to mind...

 7.2 miles?! Ah that's awesome!! :thumbsup2 I have never done further than 6.22 (I've done that distance twice). I always feel like I can go further when it's cooler and at night too- I've been hydrating all day and just feel so much better.

Last night I did 3.5 miles on the treadmill and 20 minutes on the bike and felt really good. The only thing I didn't like was that it was at a different gym than I normally go to (huge accident on an interstate blocking both ways home for me!). Funny how much going to a different gym can affect my mood- I'm such a creature of habit. Tonight I'm trying for body pump because we're going to the outerbanks on Friday so I won't be able to go then. I ate REALLY well yesterday and was down 2lbs this morning (yeah I know, water weight but it's still good for the ego ;)). I'm still up from vacation in early June though but I'm getting there!

MMQ~ races planned are a 10K on October 30th (Wicked 10K in Va Beach) and I'm really excited since everyone dresses up for it and it's sponsored by Blue Moon. Then the Princess Half Feb 27th 2011, Shamrock 8K in March and a new Williamsburg race in May (haven't decided 8K or half marathon). The half marathon in May would be 12 weeks after my half in February and I don't even know if I like running half's yet! I'd like to throw in a few more between now and the Princess once it gets cooler- a couple 5Ks or something. I'm super nervous about training for the Princess in the winter!!

Steves1bear~ good to see you back :goodvibes
Kolohe~ amazing tattoo!! Love the colors! :thumbsup2

Well... didn't work out yesterday and didn't eat SB friendly last night.

Our house got broken into yesterday right in broad daylight. Took our flat screen tvs, all our Wii stuff, cash, DBF's watch, class ring and some other stuff including passport and soc sec card, and my entire jewelry box. Spent most of the night dealing with detectives, cleaning off finger print ink and making a list of what was stolen. About $8K worth of stuff was stolen and I'm sure they'll get maybe $1K and some drugs for it. We're in a townhouse too and all our neighbors were home. DBF was gone for 3.5 hours and came home to find it all gone :sad1:

I can't eat or sleep and feel sick constantly. Had half a slice of pizza and a garlic knot at 9:45pm last night and haven't had a thing today and don't feel like it. Probably will spend some nights this week shopping to replace stuff- not so sure how the gym will work out if I'm not eating.

I hope everyone else is doing well.

OH MY GOSH KAREN!!!!! I cannot even imagine how you must be feeling!! I can't believe it happened right during the day with people around and no one saw anything. That is just awful. The only good thing is that no one was home when it happened - had one of you been home sleeping or doing something it could have been a lot worse!

Take some time off from working out and the diet - you have to take care of yourself emotionally and mentally first. I'm sure it will take a while to get over. It has got to be a huge and horrible shock to come home to that and now deal with all of the stress of it all - please do not worry about working out right now (unless you find it will help you reduce the stress)!

It is totally normal to feel like you are and it will probably take a few more days for the shock to wear off, and then you will probably start feeling like eating again. I've never been through anything like this, but a few years ago my son had an accident and was taken to the ER and I had that sick to my stomach feeling for about a week and didn't hardly eat anything. Took a few weeks to stop constantly thinking about it and replaying it in your head. I thought I was going crazy but it's totally normal and the more you can talk about it with people the more it will help - even if you find yourself saying the same things over and over!!

Take care of yourself and your BF and don't worry about the diet right now! Please keep us posted! I'll be thinking of you and hope the police catch those !#@&^%# people!!

Thanks so much MMQ :goodvibes It's been a long few days!!

Haven't worked out at all but ate more yesterday although my stomach was killing me. I'm down another pound but I'm sure that's not going to stick. Haven't worked out either and feel like I could use a run or something. Just don't have time.

I've spent a lot of time on the phone the past few days, and DBF and I went to Costco and Kohls last night. I bought some jewelry to replace some of what was stolen, and I was SO EXCITED they still had both necklaces that DBF had bought me for Christmas and our 1 year anniversary. I cried right at the jewelry counter, the woman thought I was nuts :rotfl: So much else was lost and it stings to think about (jewelry from Ireland, and trips around the US to different places, a bunch from Disney, etc) but that made it a little better.

ADT is arriving today at 5pm to install our security system!!! I'm so excited. Once that happens, I'll feel much much better. More money to pay per month but it's worth it. And we'll still be able to make our trip to the Outer Banks this weekend and not worry as much.

Haven't heard anything else from the police and we figured out a bunch more stuff that was stolen. All totals almost $10K and there's no way we'll get all that back from insurance. Plus DBF's passport, checkbook and social security card. So he had to change his bank account, call the credit bureaus and whoever else. Ugh.

I hope everyone else is doing well. My general mood is a lot better... it's my stomach and when I lay down at night to go to bed that sucks :sad2:

Oh Karen! I'm so sorry you are having to deal with such issues. Having someone break-in to your home is just gut wrenching. We've had numerous break-ins in the area I live right now to the point we are starting a neighborhood watch. Just like you, they have happened during the day while other families were home, but nobody saw anything. It's great you bought a security system and are getting it hooked up quickly.

I agree with MMQ, just take time for yourself and DBF right now. Exercise, diet it can all wait. After something like that you just feel so violated and it takes time to figure everything out and stop wondering about all the what and how parts of the event.

Just make sure you enjoy your vacation this weekend! I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing time!

Thanks so much stevesbear :)

Much better spirits today... ADT system is awesome!!! Just walking around last night cleaning and doing laundry after he left was so much different. I've always been a paranoid person (so careful about checking locks, waiting till the garage door goes down, sensitive to noises, etc) and I suddenly felt like I was in my own little fortress. We set it at night and I think we both slept the best we have in days.. although since we went to bed at midnight and got up at 5:30 I'm not exactly rested.

Only real thing I have to wait on is insurance. Oh and last night while we were cleaning we realized there's fingerprint ink ALL over the downstairs carpet in front of the door  not sure how I'll be getting that out...

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Hi Karen! Glad the ADT system is installed and you are feeling a little better! I am the say way - always double check the locks at night, very jumpy at the slightest little sounds. I hardly sleep at all when DH is gone, I usually end up sleeping on the couch because I get so freaked out laying in bed hearing noises throughout the house. In our old house I concoted these crazy plans to grab my son (who was a baby at the time) and hide in the crawl spaces of our closets if I ever heard someone in the house downstairs at night! :sad2: So I completely understand your paranoia!!! Hope you have a good weekend and get lots of time to relax! :thumbsup2 Glad you were able to repalce some of your jewelry, it's hard to lose those sentimental pieces!

My week was pretty good. I'm down a half pound from last Friday, which is about right since I ate terrible last weekend and was up a few pounds on Monday. I didn't eat spectacularly this week - I did okay, but felt like I was eating too much - for whatever reason I didn't track my calories at all this week. Just lazy or didn't want to deal with it I guess. :confused3

The only thing that saved me this week was running. I had my best week ever for running, doing 7 miles on Monday, 4 miles Tuesday, then I went out last night and decided to do my long run becuase I don't know if I'll have time to get it in on either Sat. or Sun. So I did 8 miles last night! It was my first time doing 8 and it went well, I didn't really walk any of it, but I did stop home for about 2 minutes after 4 miles and grab a big drink of water, then went back out and did the last 4. I was getting tired by the end and my back hurt a little bit which is unusual, but I made it and it wasn't all that bad! Honestly just glad it's done and I won't have to try to squeeze it in over the weekend or worry that I don't get it in if the weather is bad again.

Tonight we are heading out to a baseball game which will mean eating dinner at the stadium...not sure what I'll get, I know they do have subs there, but it's hard to be good in that situation! Saturday I think we're heading up camping, but I can be good up there since it's not a holiday weekend and I hope to take a short run up there too. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Pretty dead around here! No new posts in a few days?

Weekend was great in OBX. Ate out each night (not the best) but not too horrible. I'm not up any from this past week of not eating well/not working out. I started back at it yesterday, ran 4 miles on the treadmill and felt pretty good. Ate a cheeseburger last night but did veggies instead of the pasta salad I made for the boys. DBF's friend is staying with us for the week because he's down here for a conference. Upside is that he's a cop and so we have a police car in our driveway at night now :rotfl:

My spirits are up after some good sleep in OBX and I love our alarm system. Bought one new TV so we'd have something to watch and are still waiting on insurance to get anything else. I hope everyone is doing well!!

sorry I have been MIA.
DH's father passed away 6/27 so we have been dealing with a lot of stuff (his parents were divorced)
This is not the way to do it and trust me I havent intended, but it has bene hard to eat the past 3 weeks, totally nauseated from everything going on. I have lost about 2-3 pounds. Still running, about to start Marathon trianing plan in August. Some people say it makes them gain weight....great... lol!

Karen - glad you had a good weekend and got some rest and relaxation!

Welcome back Heather! Sorry to hear about your family's loss. Hope things improve and your stress goes down a bit! Good luck on your training! :thumbsup2

My weekend was okay. I ate okay all weekend, but was up 2 pounds yesterday and today. I haven't been doing well tracking my calories, I started out the day tracking then just gave up. I ran 4 miles on Sunday night, it was a good run and I should have gone farther, since now we are getting rain again all week and I have no idea when I can get out again. :sad2:

I think this weather we've been having really has me down. It seriously rains and thunderstorms every.single.day. for weeks on end. We've had record rainfall this summer and every afternoon/evening the storms move in and I can't get out to run. Yesterday was supposed to be no rain, and by 3pm it was raining. I was going to go out at 7pm and it started raining/thundering again. Its either 90 degrees and humid or it's raining, and I know I'm not the only one struggling to get runs in this weather. I've been thinking about investing in a decent treadmill, but was hoping to get it before winter, not right now, but I may have to start looking.

I'm more and more stressed every day just worring how I'm going to get my run in and what the weather is doing! So, today I'm going to TRY to get out at 4pm when DH gets home if it's not raining. He has a board meeting to night so I have about 2 hours to get it in if I can otherwise it's ANOTHER night off...

I haven't been on in a while either. I don't have internet at home so the only time I can access it is on my downtime at work. The weather has turned hot (close to 100) the last week or so, guess when it's so hot outside people decide to get massages! It's been busy, which is unusual in the summer. Generally this is the slow season.

Karen - I just read about your home being robbed! Holy crap, what an awful thing to go through! I'm glad to hear you're doing better and were able to replace some of your things.

Steves1bear - I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Happy to see you back and good luck on your marathon training!

MommyMcQueen - I think that kind of weather would depress anybody. We had a very cold, wet spring this year and it did put everyone in a funk. Hang in there, the sun has got to shine sometime!

The recent heat has put a bit of a crimp in my running. I'm at work til after 10 most nights, so going after work is not really an option. Working that late also makes it hard for me to get up to run in the early morning. This morning it was almost 90 degrees by 9 AM. I don't mind doing shorter runs on a treadmill, but HATE doing long runs on them. The Disneyland Half is looming, so I'd better figure something out pretty quick :rolleyes1

Time to get back to work. 2 more hours and I get to go home and sleep! YAY!

This week is flying by, I can't believe it's Thursday already! Yesterday we FINALLY ;) had a day with no rain! So I took advantage of it and decided to do my longer run last night. A couple weeks ago I moved my long run from the weekend to mid-week - just works out better with my schedule and I don't have to worry about getting it in over the weekends, which are usually busy.

I've been following a half-marathon training plan, even though I have yet to sign up for a half. I'm completely undecided if I want to do it, but going along with the plan for when I decide what to do. So every week my long run goes up 1 mile, and I'm excited to say that last night I did 9 MILES! :yay:

It wasn't too bad, it was warm but not hot, I did my usual 4 through our neighborhood, stopped home for water (allowed myself a 2 minute break) then went back out and did the other 5 through some other neighborhoods in town. By the time I turned around to head home (route is an out & back) I was feeling it, the sun had also just set so I knew I had to hurry up and get home! The last 2 miles were a bit rough - my back got sore which only seems to happen on these long runs, but I was most happy with the fact that I ran/jogged all of it and I didn't walk any stretches. My time was 1:38.

The half I'm looking at is in September, 8 weeks from now. I'm on track with the training plan to be able to do it. I think I will try to decide next week if I'm able to complete a 10 mile. Last night after I finished up the 9 all I could think was that there's still 4 more after that!!! I could never have made it 4 more...still seems like a far off goal.

Hope everyone is having a good week, I'm still up 1 pound from last week. Still dont' have my eating under control...starting to think it may be stress related. Been having a medical issue that I need to call my doc about but I've been putting it off, I just don't even want to know it if is what I think it is...I hate getting old!!

Kolohe - hope the weather cools off a little bit for you! It would be hard working nights then getting up to run the next morning.

9 miles!! Fantastic! Way to go Mommy McQueen! :cheer2:

I've decided this is my last week to weigh in every day. I think I've found a pretty good food/exercise groove, so now my goal is to maintain that and not let myself slip out of the habit again. Also I've been getting a bit obsessed and letting the number on the scale dictate my mood more than is probably healthy or sane. Starting Monday I'm cutting down to twice a week.

I think I'm either going to: 1 - hit the sack ASAP on Friday nights and do my long runs early on Saturday. Or 2 - Move my long run days to Monday nights, I get off earlier that night. There's a park relatively nearby that's lit at night, and less chance of me getting hit by a car or mugged. Decisions, decisions.

holy cow! 9 miles??!! You are doing so well with your running! How long ago did you begin running? I think you said you started with the Couch to 5K plan?? I can't imagine being able to run 9 miles!!:worship: I am just now being able to run 3 miles pretty consistantly.

How often do you guys run? I am only running 3 days a week; have problems with my knee and I don't want to push it. ALso, how do you find out about events to sign up for? I am thinking I should sign up for a 5K but I don't know where to find one in my area??

I actually started running the end of March - just about 4 months ago. I did the C25K, then a 6 week 10K training plan, and now I'm a few weeks into a half training plan. Its been a ton of work and I'm still amazed that I've made it this far. I still remember being able to finish 3 and being amazed that I could do that! :) Its just a very gradual buildup on the long run -like .5 miles longer on each one, a 3, then 3.5, then 4, 4.5 etc until I got to 6 miles, now it's 1 mile longer on each one, last week was 8, this week 9, next week 10.

I usually run 3-4 times a week, the goal is 4 but some weeks I'm only able to do 3 due to the weather and stuff. I do the 1 longer run, and then 2 or 3 @ 4-miles. I am the kind of person though who NEEDS to follow a training plan - I need to be told what to do! If left to my own devices I'd probably go a mile and then tell myself it was okay to walk as soon as I got the slightest bit tired and turn around and come home. Having a plan helps me a lot and I do feel disappointed if I don't finish what's on the plan for the week.

The best place I found to find out about runs in my area is active.com. I've also checked local events calendars on the newspaper or news stations websites.

Good luck and I hope your knee gets better! Just keep going - little bits at a time!

MMQ - You are my hero! 9 miles and training for a half, just wow! Way to go.

This week has been pretty good, especially since DH is out of town so my neighbor is watching the kids at night while I run. I've been able to do three 5-6 mile runs and an hour of biking. Unfortunately, I don't eat well while he is away. With three little kids wanting dinner quickly, we tend to go for the quick out to eat or frozen meals. He gets back on Sunday and I get back to eating better than too!

Hope everyone is have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks Steves1bear! The running going good, now if I could just get my eating under control I could actully lose a pound or 2!!

Great job getting your runs in! In summer I tend to get burned out on cooking too and just want to grab something quick. In winter I don't mind spending an hour + on a meal in the kitchen, but during summer I just don't want to do it. We're eating our more than we should be too - we usually limit it to once a week but lately it's been twice for sure and sometimes 3 times! :headache: (although one is usually Subway)

My weeked was pretty bad - we camped and I ate alot. I did do a 7 mile run last night after we got home, it was a decent run, was still over 80 degrees when I felt at 7pm, so I felt a bit sluggish the whole way, was better after the sunset though - much cooler. I"m still up 1 pound from my lowest weight 2 weeks ago, which isn't horrible considering how bad I've been eating. But I want to do better, eliminate the junk food, and lose weight this week!

I hope everyone had a good weekend!! Sorry I've been MIA... last week I got in 4 workouts and two of them were 4 mile runs so yay for that. Then Friday I got stuck at work late and DBF and I were going out to dinner so I skipped the workout. No long run on Saturday for me because... DBF surprised me on Friday and PROPOSED!!!!!!!!:banana::banana: He then set up breakfast for Saturday morning with my best friend and her husband before we went out on a boat with our other friends. I'm super excited and was totally shocked. Actually when he got down on one knee the first thing I said was "shut up!" :rotfl:

We went boating on Saturday (but did some wakeboarding so I am a little sore in my arms and back) and on Sunday hung out at a friend's pool and had pizza and beer. Tonight we're buying the rest of what the people stole from us in the burglary, then working out Tues, Wed, Thurs and leaving early Friday for a wedding up in PA. Phew!

I hope everyone else had a good weekend! :goodvibes Oh and MMQ~ freaking amazing you did 9 miles!! Makes me want to start training for a half right now!
