Support Group - 10 lbs or less

morning everyone -- we had bad juju this weekend huh! i did fair --

worked out this morning and paid the consequences...ran out of steam about 10 mins into it! must eat better! i also was a slacker this weeken, missd o cross-train and one walk. BAD me!

Karen -- where do your hips hurt? i have trouble with my hip flexors being tight so i stretch those really good. I do one knee on floor, other leg foot on floor knee bent 90' can feel on side with knee on floor. did i confuse you? also, what surface do you run on?

my keyboard is acting up...the batteries must be low. back later!

hi everyone! Can I join the group? I joined Weight Watchers in November of2007. Lost about 30 pounds and made Lifetime in April 2008:woohoo: Since then I have put some weight back on and I can't seem to get back down to where I feel best.

I have been struggling with these last few pounds forever...so frustrating.:guilty:I do well for a couple of weeks, then I don't know what happens and I lose control again. Up and down with the same pounds UGH! I didn't weigh in last week since I had my period and I felt awful and bloated. Thought I would wait a week and get it under control but of course that didn't work and I was eating poorly again most of the week. I have no idea where I am now and I really don't want to see that number tomorrow.:headache:

I'm trying to be active....I walk on the treadmill 5 days a week and do some strength training as well. Usually I do about 2.1 miles in 30 minutes on the treadmill but today I stayed on until I got to 3.1 miles (all the talk about the 5K challenge at Weight Watchers got me to thinking about it).

I'd love to be able to run so yesterday I added in some jogging, but I'm having a problem with my knee and the jogging caused it to hurt more so I backed off that for now.

Anyway...hopefully with the support of this group and committing myself to getting off this roller coaster, I can can reach my goal!

MommyMcQueen~ good job on the veggies despite the chips and dip- I've realized any kind of effort sometimes is better than none at all!! Like this weekend when I ate pretty much whatever I wanted- I subbed fries/potato salad for veggies or a salad every time, and almost always ate half my meal. Even just doing that I gained 2.8lbs instead of 4-5, and this morning I'm already down 2.4 from yesterday! So no loss or anything, but I'm lower than I normally am at this time in the week.

Yesterday for dinner we had leftovers from the meal I made Saturday (healthy minus the white pasta!). I had a few small pieces of candy afterwards but not much.

This morning I got trays made so I can whiten my teeth (yay!), and got a cavity filled at the dentist :sad1: I HATE the dentist. And she knicked my gum with the grinder so I'm bleeding :sad2: and once the novacaine wears off I'm sure it will feel even worse!

I did however run 4 miles yesterday!! Does anyone else have pain in their hips/knees while they run and right after but then it's gone maybe a few hours later? I'm wondering how bad it is. I don't feel like I'm permanently hurting myself since it goes away, but I start to have pain in my knees and hips during the run, the hips are fine after and knees hurt for a few hours :confused3

Hi Karen!

Thanks! I'm trying hard to get more fruits and veggies as part of my "normal" diet - and not consider it "diet" food! I've never been a big fruit/veggie eater, but in the last year I've done much better - and I just had a banana and cauliflower with my sandwich for lunch instead of chips! Baby steps...

Great job on your running! I would love to be able to run that far someday! Congrats on the new clothes! It is always a great feeling to try on and feel good in new clothes.

My tracking has been going well - just did yesterday and today but having a good week so far. Did W3D1 yesterday and it was actually great! I made it through the 3 min run cycles - was fine after the first one and a little tired after the second, but made it through and even did a couple extra 1.5 min cyles at the end. It felt good - I was a little shocked. My shins were a bit tight when I got home, iced them last night and no pain at all today. This morning I did 30 min on the elliptical - and I increased my intensity for the first time (I usually just do it on the lowest resistance) and alternated every 3 minutes to a higher/lower resistance - actually went up 2 levels!

So even though I'm not seeing huge numbers on the scale, I am starting to see some progress. After my walk yesterday DH said "that was fast" and I looked at the clock and the route that used to take me 40 minutes to walk I got done in 30. And on my elliptical the program that used to take me 31-32 minutes I'm now finishing in about 26 minutes. Now I need to increase my distances.

Ugh...I shudder at the word dentist. :scared: I too HATE the dentist.

Hey everyone! I was off all last week and it was hit or miss as far as eating goes. My danger zone is in the afternoon ( if I'm already home) or when I walk in the door after work. Tri training is the same (hard!), just got to get the eating under control. I started AGAIN :sad2: yesterday and I am back to writing it all down.

O boy, I'm back from vaca in WDW. Sigh. I'm not getting on the scale until at least Friday! I was out shopping yesterday trying to find a new dress to wear on my birthday on Friday, and I went to a bunch of little boutiques, and let's just say I was not liking the way the clothes were fitting. I'm very determined now to get my eating back under control and keep my workouts on track. I was able to do at least 60 min of cardio on 3 days while on vacation along with all the walking we were doing, so I least I had that going for me.

back from my weigh in and I'm up 2 lbs:guilty: but it could have been worse so I am going to take it for what it is and move on. Currently I have to lose 9 lbs to get to my goal weight...I have a wedding to go to on 6/5 so I am hoping to get to my goal weight by then.

:welcome: cepmom!

this has been a really busy week for me....i'm definately doing better with portion control and having a conversation with myself when the urge to find a snack comes my way.

that's awesome MMQ that you are seeing such improvements already in your stamina!

pixie -- hope your trip was fantastic! i'm so admire you for doing cardio on vaca :rockband:

Ahhhh...finally after 3 weeks I had a good weigh-in! I'm down that 1.5 pounds I've been up (so finally back to where I was before Easter) and I've had a really good week - for whatever reason my motivation is back and I've really enjoyed my workouts and haven't hated cutting back on my food. The tracking is helping A LOT, I've been eating a lot less and making a lot healthier choices - fruits and veggies at every meal.

On Wednesday I re-worked my walking route to make it 4 miles, I thought it was about a 3 mile walk, but I mapped it and it was actually only 2.75! So I made a new route that is 4 miles, walked it Wed and did C25K on it yesterday - I was feeling so good after the C25K run cycles that I did a few extra 3 minute run/walks - I know it's kind of a no-no to go off the plan and do more - but I've been doing some extra 1.5 min cycles and really wanted to challenge myself - and it wasn't bad, I was able to pretty easily make it through them - I basically doubled what was required for the day. I felt GREAT when I got home and that was the most I've ever ran - total of 18 minutes, whole walk was was 54 minutes so almost 1/3 of it I ran. I could feel it last night though - was sore, iced the shins and definitely feel a bit more stiff today, but still glad I did it. Also loving the longer route.

Oh - question for you runners - what do you do for chaffing? On Wed when I walked I wore kind of a baggy T and on the back side of my arm/armpit it must have rubbed funny, I got a little chaffed mark. I put a bandaid over it and when I went yesterday and bandaid slipped (due to sweat) and created it's own even larger and deeper (and more painful:headache:) chaffe mark! So now I have 2 gigantic bandaids on the back/inside of my one arm. I don't know how many nerve endings are back there exactly, but for a tiny little mark it really hurts! Its a bit too cold here to go sleeveless - anything I can do to cover them until they heal, that will stay in place during my walks?? Not planning to walk today, so hoping by tomorrow they will be a little better. Thanks!!!

MMQ -- get Bodyglide -- you can buy at running stores for sure, maybe larger sporting stores like Dick's. it looks like a deodorant, you apply it on the high-risk chaffing areas to prevent chaffing.

I had a spot on the back of my upper arm that got me recently and I know what you mean it's tender. actually sleeveless was how i got it. I did put 'serum' on the area hoping that would help it heal quicker; like facial product serum. Do you have any type of wrap bandaging to cover for your next run? just a thought, i've never tried.

the theory is to never add more than 10% to your distance at one time...like if you were going a 3 mile route, you'd add .3 miles. that is to prevent injury....i'm not very good at following that rule either but i usually pay for it too ;)

Thanks OhMom - I'll look for the BodyGlide, I could try wrapping my arm with a small piece of ace and see if that works - they don't hurt at all if they're covered, just when fabric rubs against.

I know it was probably bad of me to run so much longer - the distance I was not too worried about - last summer when I only walked I would do up to 6 miles a day, so walking the 4 is no problem, but adding the extra running in there was probabably a little much - oh well, live and learn! I'm not really sore today but may have a more difficult time tomorrow when I walk/run - the shins may bother me more...they're not sore now though and I plan to ice again today. If I work out tonight I'll elliptical...no walk today, give them a break.

I'm still 14 pounds from my goal - I want to be under 10! Hope everyone is having a good week!

Oh wow I've never heard of that 10% rule! Pretty interesting. As for body glide I thought of getting it for my thighs for when I wear skirts. Normal walking around is fine bc they don't chaff, but when I run for like 4 miles they get a little annoying. For when I run I wear snug fitting tshirts so I never have a problem with skin on skin contact with my arms, and I NEVER wear sleeveless (I hate running in sleeveless). I almost always wear these from Target. I am a size 6 or so, and wear a small. I absolutely love them and they sometimes go on sale for 7.50 each!

Congrats MMQ on the loss!! I'm up but haven't been eating super well. Argh. I have my work physical this coming Wednesday so I'd like to lose a little before then! Tomorrow at work we're having a bbq so I know I won't eat well but need to put in some effort!

that reminds me of a question i wanted to ask - for those of you who wear running skirts -- i was out walking, it was pretty windy and my shorts were driving me crazy when I walked facing the wind, they were blowing inbetween my legs and making my shorts feel all twisted. would a skirt solve that problem?

happy day! i saw a number beyond my normal range today -- i haven't been real faithful in the weighing weekly and next week i'll be gone for a long weekend. so i don't know what my official loss for this week would be...i'm just super pumped I had one!

I ahve never felt twisted in any way in my running skirts, they are awesome!

Can I just say that my heart breaks for you!? New England winters are tough enough, but add in the fact that you haven't been experiencing them in a while, plus the depression and it was probably a really tough winter for you!
I'm sure that your DH has a GREAT job, but that doesn't really make it any easier for you. ..............P

It's been a LONG winter - even though this wasn't too bad of a winter, weather wise. DH actually got a call for a job interview for an engineering job with GE that is in the Albany, NY area - which would be really good, since I will only be a 2 1/2 hour drive to my mom & dad, brother & his fiance, and my other friends and family. I can totally handle a 2 1/2 hour drive! 6 hour drive...not so much. I'd never do that by myself. That's just a bit too long do drive alone. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

That's awesome! I grew up in that area and my parents and grandma still live there. I'm from Clifton Park and as far as I know GE is in Schenectady which is only 15-20 minutes from there (we drove by it when we went to see Wicked over Christmas). I obviously moved away to the south but it's not a bad area. If you have any questions just let me know!

OhMom~ I second the running skirts. I couldnt' do the spankies underneath so I went with the "athletic skirt" that has shorts under it. My favs are New Balance brand but I haven't tried the runningskirts.com ones that heatherlynn likes.

It's the weekend almost! Time to try to be good. I just ate a huge bbq lunch and was definitely NOT good in terms of being healthy but it was for a good cause (a coworker's son was electrocuted and the family can't afford medical or travel bills :sad2: so they had a fundraiser).

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

I had a really good weekend and was not expecting this morings result.

Friday I told DH that I did not want to go out to dinner (that is out usualy Fri night thing which starts my weekend off on a bad note) so we didn't, instead I did 4 mile walk and ran my C25K intervals. Felt great. DH made a frozen pizza - I had 1 slice for dinner, and we had some popcorn later with the kids movie. I was right on for my calories for the day.

The whole weekend was cold and rainy here, so I knew there would be no walks. I took Saturday off from exercising since I did a long walk/run the night before, I was down another .5 llb. Ate decent Saturday - small breakfast, sandwich and cold veggies for lunch. Saturday dinner could have been better - we decided to get a rotisserie chicken from the deli, also got mashed potatoes, cole slaw, rolls. I admittedly ate too much, and then DH got out Klondike bars. I had 1/2 a bar then really didn't want the rest so I didn't finish it. I was full after that dinner...I had only had about 600 calories at breakfast & lunch, but I don't know how many dinner was. 1000+??...ugh, sick.

Sunday morning I decided to get up and do 45 minutes on my elliptical, relieve some of the guilt from previous nights dinner. I made a breakfast casserole which we had for a late breakfast/early lunch. I added all the ingredient calories and divided by the portions so I new how many calories I was having. :) That was all I ate until dinner, although I snacked on cauliflower in the afternoon. Dinner DH cooked out burgers, so I did have a burger on a bun (we get extra lean 93%), also had veggies, and broke down and had some chips.:headache:

After dinner the rain stopped and skies cleared and I decided at 7pm to go do my C25K - starting week 4 this week! I was super excited about the 5 min intervals - and I was able to do them with very little problem - yeah I was winded but I did it! I only did the 30 minutes, wanted to get home to put the kids to bed so I only did my short route. I am amazed though - 3 weeks ago I could barely run 1 minute - now I can do 5! This is the first time in my adult life that I've ran 5 minutes straight! :goodvibes I felt really good last night and honestly thought that I had a really good weekend with my diet/exercise. Way better than my usual weekend anyway.

I really debated about weighing myself this morning. I figured I'd be up a pound, maybe I'd get lucky and it would only be 1/2. But luck was not with me today....I'm up 2 pounds. :sad1: I know some of it could be water, I did have some salty foods over the weekend. But seeing 2 was really disappointing, especially after all the exercise...I really felt like I pushed myself this weekend - longer walks, higher resistance on the elliptical, and longer running. Oh well...nothing I can do about it now...time to stop moping and get back at it! :thumbsup2

Thanks for allowing me my weekend confession! Hope you all did well!

Bad weekend for me. It was my birthday weekend, so I ate pizza and cupcake on friday, french dip with fries, anc cheese steak with fries on sat, stuffed french toast and roast beef sandwich on sunday. I'm now sick in bed. I think it's a combo of stress and poor eating. Sigh.

Happy Birthday pixiedust23! Sorry you're not feeling well.

Terrible binge weekend again. My boss' family came in for dental work (I'm a dental asst.) and my boss's mom ALWAYS brings a bag of snacks. One paper grocery bag for him and one for me to take home. I'm sure you know how the rest goes...

Back on track today with swimming 1600+ yards and good eating.

I am 5'6 weight 135, work out 5 days a week. I run, do the stair climber, strength train/tone, and do zumba. I could not figure out why the heck I could not loose a few. It was my diet, my DH is such a bad influence on me. I am on week 2 eating at home, not eating out. If I have had to it's a sald with ff ranch. I had sushi last night. The sushi was such a treat, but still very healthy. What am doing is cutting out bread, pasta, and sweets. Sticking the fruit, and those 100 calorie yoplait yogurt parfaits are quite good. From doing this I feel soooo much better all ready. I have lost 3 pounds and my tummy is looking nice and flat for that bikini. I know I will blow it at Disney in a few weeks, but I can still eat healthy there.
