I forgot to mention that we chose to have the hats all embroidered with the kids' names on them and sent to our hotel. One advantage of staying CL is that you don't need to go to the store at your hotel to pick up your packages; they get sent directly to your room!
After our mini-shopping spree we headed over for our lunch ADR at the Brown Derby. I've always wanted to eat here and this seemed like a good opportunity. We had a short wait before we were seated. I didn't love the front desk people at this restaurant.

Not particularly friendly and I didn't really feel that my children were welcome here. We later ate at several other signature restaurants (I'll get there, I promise!) and this was the only place where I had that feeling. The first of the many complaints about how people were arranged at the table began at this meal.

Without any thought going into the seating, we ended up with: Nathaniel then Zachary then me the empty seat. Tom across from empty seat, Popsi across from me, Jessica across from Zachary, and my mom across from Nathaniel. So my mom (inadvertantly) was surrounded by children. Now my kids do pretty well at sit-down meals, especially since the kid menus were new for them at this point in the trip (they got repetitive later in the trip). Zachary can be a full-time job, although Tom has learned how to play Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on his phone.
Our waiter was lovely. I believe he was another one from Long Island but I may just be getting confused at this point.

He was very helpful and pleasant although a bit scarce. My parents and I all ordered the famous Cobb Salad. Tom doesn't eat pork so he got the lamb shank (which was both beautifully presented and delicious). We realized later that he could probably have gotten the salad without bacon - good for future reference. The kids all got whatever kid food appealed that day (I'm sure Zachary got chicken because he loves chicken). Zachary had at least 2 diaper changes (after my previous experience I wasn't taking any chances

) and I took Jessica to the bathroom at least once if not twice. The food was great and the restaurant lovely but I'm not sure I'd return here again until the kids are older. Not because they weren't well-behaved but because there are other restaurants at DHS that are more fun for them.
My mom was pretty angry after lunch because she felt excluded. My step-dad tends to be clueless and I think if he had taken Jessica duty during the meal, my mom would have been fine. Also Jessica dropped her drink on the floor during lunch (a common occurrence for Jessica) and my mom insisted on getting on the floor and picking up all the ice cubes and cleaning up.

And making a big show out of how she did all of that.

As we were asking for the check, I looked in my "Disney wallet" for my Key to the World card. It wasn't there. I had the FPs for TSM, the APs, the kids' cards (Tom had his own), and even the TIW card. I thought I had paid for my pants with my debit card but now I wasn't sure. Since I have charging privileges on my room key, I was a little panicky. I went back to the store where I bought my pants and they didn't have it. They sent me to guest services. The woman there was fantastic. Super nice and helpful. She called the Poly to ask how they wanted her to handle the situation and she immediately printed me a new card. The only sad part was that it was blue instead of the special gold card you get for staying CL!

It was also an opportunity for me to vent, just a little, about my mom being difficult!

I returned to the restaurant, we ate dessert, and then left.
We headed over to TSM to use our FPs. It was a quick line and we finally got to ride. Remember, my kids weren't able to ride on our last trip because of the refurb. I love, love, love this ride. I had Zachary and Nathaniel with me so it wasn't one of my better performances but it was still fun! My parents seemed to enjoy it, too.
Nathaniel took some of these pics.
No more FPs!
