I noticed that if you book through supershuttle's website that it is suggested that 18% tip be added, but you can fill it in as 0 (so that you can tip the appropriate amount by cash afterwards if you wish to do so.)
http://www.supershuttle.com/
You do prepay for the service for both websites, and I can easily see someone not noticing the 18% tip then tipping more.
On the Execucar Express website, http://www.execucar.com/ it is MANDATORY that you pay 18% tip, there it no way to rid yourself of it, as far as I can see.
I have always tipped around $12 (17%) for a family of 4, and I don't think that's being unfair. The cost to go from LAX to Hojo is $72 plus tip (and vice versa) so for a family of 4 it is a good value, it's a Honda Odyssey. You can only have 5 passengers on those vehicles, but the rate is good, and they've always been on time.
Anyway, just wanted to give you guys the heads up, for those of you who wanted to take Execucar but who DID NOT want to pay the 18% gratuity in advance! (Book through Supershuttle and then select the 'execucar express' service.
