Hi all,
this was sent to me in an e-mail.Ihad no idea they were remaking this flim.Kinda does not seem right without chris reeves.i think i must go see this, when it comes out.BTW the release date is listed as june,2006.
SUPERMAN RETURNS

Movie-goers are flaky. They'll flock to see something remade for the twentieth time, but won't flock to see something new and original. Movie producers would be idiots to ignore that. Obtaining the rights to make films in an established franchise is smart business, and will please many fans.

Smallville watchers (like my hubby) have known about this for a LONG time. It isn't news. He really wants to see. I'm not really interested. Never cared for the Superman stuff.

I would probably see it on DVD.
I'm sure the response will be similar to when Christopher Reeve tackled the role for the first time. Skeptics say he wasn't the original--those who didn't see the original see that it is made for their time.

As long as it is well made despite being a remake/sequelish type movie--it will do fine.

ETA: just wanted to say that Clark Kent looks HOT! :faint:

I do know that Dana Reeve gave her approval for the movie and the actor chosen. :)

Yes thats true, and I will go and see it, as I love Superman! (Especially Chris Reeve, he and Dana will be watching from above). ;)

That means nothing to me.

Another wife with a Smallville-lovin' husband here. DH is also a HUGE Superman fan. He's even planning on taking the day off from work for a matinee showing.

After reading the brief synopsis of this film in People magazine, it appears that this film is NOT a remake, but rather a sequel (more or less). Just like Batman Begins wasn't a remake of the Batman with Michael Keaton. I believe it's supposed to take place after the events of the other films, though I don't think the actaul events of the other, Chris Reeve, films are mentioned. In the trailer DH and I saw a few months ago, the used the voice-over of Marlon Brando as Jor-El, which was my first inkling that the movie was considered part of the original (Chris Reeve) series, since Brando was in the first one.

I find it touching that they asked Dana what she thought.

PS, DH and I LOVE Smallville!!

From what I understand, it's supposed to acknowledge the events of the first two Christopher Reeve movies but not the second two.

I'm not familiar with Brandon Routh, but that may be a good thing. IMO movies like this work best with little known actors in key roles -- Christopher Reeve as Superman, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Christian Bale as Batman.

What has me pumped is that it's being directed by Bryan Singer, the man responsible for the first two X-Men movies. :Pinkbounc :thumbsup2 :dancer: :jumping1:

Christopher Reeve's performance has been the definitive Superman portrayal for years. While I don't think it was necessary for the producers to get Dana's opinion I do think that it was nice of them to do so.

It's not a remake of the first movie. It's intended to take place after the events of Superman II. In fact they will be using unused Marlon Brado footage from the first two movies. It's directed by the guy who made the first two X-Men movies so I have high hopes for this one.

sorry but have no interest at all! Superman comes back to find Lois lane pregnant with a child that may or may not be his and that's justa veyr tacky storyline! I ahve no interest at all!!

I am also an avid Smallville watcher and like that Superman but don't like this new guy at all.

But the way she got that way in the previous movie and the sexual stuff in Smallville is OK?

So, where does this film fit in with the original Superman movie canon? Does it happen between films 2 and 3 or after Superman V:Quest for Peace?

TOV

According to the people who made the movie, it goes on like Superman III and IV never existed. IMO that's a good thing. Chances are any sequels will do the same. It would be great to see a Superman movie with a villian other than Lex Luthor. So many other good ones to choose from without having to resort to Richard Pryor.

PS...I would pay ANYTHING just to see Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor!!! He should be brilliant in the role (though I always will love Gene HAckman). I also agree it's a good thing they are pretending that Superman3 and 4 never happened.

That means nothing to me.
I believe the comment was directed at the OP who expressed concern about sequels being done without Chris Reeve.

No, I was referring to the "approved by Dana Reeve." I couldn't care less if she thought it was cool or not.
