How crowded is the park during the Soap Weekend?

I have been there the past 3 years. My mother-in-law and I are big fans. unfortunately this year, we won't be able to go. but we love it there. we have kinda made it our tradition to do it together. Leave the men at home and go drool over our soap men. we get into some good conversations with other women who also love the shows that we watch.

to answer your question, the crowd level at MGM is enormous! get there very very early. get fast passes to see the actors/actresses that you want to see, otherwise you will not be able to see them. the lines for everything are extremely long. but-- all well worth it to see glimpses of our stars, and get sneak peaks on the story lines at some of the shows. go to the who wants to be a millionaire with Walt Wiley. This is lots of fun.

another great place to hit is the show where you can act out some lines with an actor/actress. this is always hysterical to watch.

WOW 6:30am!!
So can I drive over I assume they will be letting cars in that early? We are at Pop and I know the buss's won't be running that early of course!

Also, when you arrive at 6:30am What do you do just start lining up out front of the park? I assume so. And at what point do they finally start letting you enter the park is it the 9am opening time? I don't believe there is extra magic morning hours at MGM that weekend. Sounds like a VERY long wait! I will be ready to go back to the room and put my feet up by 10am!!

Also are any of the other stars doing any "private" stuff like Susan Lucci is?

i am still curious about the events other than the autographs... how hard are these to see? so we need fastpasses for those also, cuz that is not the impression i get. there is a couple event and a family event ( both with GV from GH there )and those are the events i am looking for. HELP!

I'm not sure how the parking lot works, but the buses usually dont start running until 7:00 am which would not get you there early enough. The line usually forms outside the park until around 8:00 am then they let you line up at the Soap of your interest (ex: GH is by Indiana Jones). So the line splits into three massive lines at different parts of the parks. Then they start giving out fast passes around 9:00 am. Usually the first meeting is 9:30 am and then scattered throughout the day. It is a very long day, but you are so excited you dont even realize you are tired. Hope this helps. :teeth:

The autographs are the hardest thing to get. Millionaire (which usually includes 2 stars per showing) also requires fast pass. This ensures you get to see the stars of interest to you. The showings throughout the day on the stage by the hat don't require any fast passes, but they get crowded very quickly and there's a pretty big section for wheel chairs so everyone else gets pushed back a bit. While you need fast passes for autographs you dont need fast passes to stop and take pics of the stars signing autographs. But you do have to be agressive. There will be swarms of people around a stars signing area. You have to push your way in to get your pic then try to get out. It's really a lot of fun! :rotfl2: Enjoy!

When and where do you get the fastpasses for the millionaire show? I didn't know this required one also. I am looking forward to this and don't want to miss it. Any secrets on how to be sure and see at least one show?

dischick4778................ Thank You very much for the info! We are either driving our rental car (if my DH will let me have use of it that day!) over or taking a cab from pop i just don't want to get stuck in traffic while in a cab ($$$)!!!

Thanks again!

thanks for the event and autograph info... that helps alot. i can expect a very long crowded and fun weekend.

can't wait.

i went to an event, tho not nearly as large and with all soaps from other stations, in Las Vegas and we were at one big cocktail party with the stars just mengling amongst us. that was fun but there weren't that many there that i cared about so i am really looking forward to this one.

also have been to a few meet and greets which is great fun. again.. can't wait for this one!

DisneyForLife - The fast passes for millionaire are usually stationed right outside Millionaire. And they usually let you choose which show you want to see (until one runs out). I dont recall having much of a problem getting these b/c there's a lot of room in the theater. But you still need them.

LisaRay - I understand! In years past we either arrived late and werent able to get more than one autograph ticket or paid money for a cab. That is why we decided to stay somewhere that would allow us to walk to MGM this year. Hopefully this works out best.

Can't wait!

Let's use this thread to post our fabulous pictures when we return from our trips. I'm leaving tomorrow at 5:00 am! Have fun all!!

Jenn- Thanks for all of your advice and great tips. One last question. Are the grand motorcade and the street jam the same each evening? Our plan was to go to Epcot on Saturday and MGM on Sunday but now I am second guessing myself. Now I think that we might hop between both. Wish that we were coming in Thursday instead of late afternoon Friday. Great idea to stay at the Boardwalk I will definatly do that if we ever go again. I was actually down your way on Sunday one of my girls had a soccer game at Brennan Field just off the LIE. Have a great time we can't wait. :flower:
Denise

Denise - No problem, I'm happy to help. For the grand motorcade and the street jam I believe it is supposed to be the same people both nights. However, sometimes 1 or 2 stars might decide to do one day and not the other. It is being hosted by the same people both nights though. I found that out from www.abc.com/daytime/supersoap. That website is where I get all of the information about stars and what events they're doing. I usually stay for the street jam on Sunday. Mostly b/c I like to end Super Soap weekend with a bang.

You should definitely make your way to Epcot as well. They are currently having the Food & Wine Festival which ends Sunday. We will be visiting that on Friday. Can't wait!!

Have fun!!

thanks.... you must have stood in long lines for the passes. i didn't as I already have steve and greg's... so i just saw from afar!

that steve is yummy! and isn't rebecca just too flawless. and she has had 2 kids! that is just wrong!

Steve was terrific! And he says he's not coming back for a while so I'm glad I got to meet him. Becky and her husband are the nicest people. I go to see them every year they attend. And they always say they remember me which is really nice even if they don't. :goodvibes

no doubt steve doesn't want to leave his family with the new baby and all. i think he left early sunday anyway. i had met him at a meet and greet where i won a raffle and in turn the obligatory hug ( sigh ) but never tire of seeing him! his ego should have been riding high after SSW as he was a STAR, that is for sure.

Most of the others, other than greg , i had not seen before. that was my first time at SSW and i have never attended the fan club thing in the summer.

I did see Tony G a long time ago and I went to an event in Las Vegas 2 years ago where there was soaps stars from all the shows. The only ones from Gh were Rick H. and Greg and Chad B was supposed to come but if he came it was after i left. Greg was coming as i was going and he was surrounded so i didn't talk with him then. Oh and the guy who played the cop that turned bad ( can't remember his name but jason killed him in the hotel fire ) he was there and i talked to him for a long time. It was laid out in a cocktail party sort of deal so that was fun!!! too bad more GH people weren't there.

I was very excited about seeing Rebecca at SSW. sweetie!

I really only get to see the stars at SSW. I live in NY and so GHers are rarely ever around here. Sometimes one or two will do a stint at this comedy club in Long Island. But it is expensive to get tickets and depending on the star you might not even get to talk with them personally. I went to see Maurice once and he was fine when he was on stage. But once the event was over and people lined up to meet him, he started to get nervous and had to be escorted out. So I paid $65 to watch him from afar. But I've heard that other stars are more social. SSW is the best opportunity I have to meet them. And since I love Disney as much as I love my GH it works out perfectly.

I'm not an ABC soap fan (Y&R for me), but my best friend LOVES GH, so we'll be going in 2 years, then on a cruise, then back to the parks for my 40th bday. Can't wait!

Jules
