Super Soap Weekend 2008?

I am not taking any offense at all. However, I am a little more than "passing along info". Some things I can't discuss and others I can. Disney had problems blocking the room. period. People, like myself, had their rooms booked already. I had mine booked since December because I Was told that's when it was going to be. However, things didn't work out that way. Lots of other people who are used to it being that weekend booked it too. The guests took the availability away. Normally, Disney will just bump a guest to another hotel. It happens year after year.

Also, not a busy time of year? You said you've never been to Disney during SSW....that said, wait until you attend and see how busy it is. I said before in my other posts that execs attend every year as well. In addition, celebrities will often bring their families and they will block rooms for them as well. Becky Herbst from GH goes every year and brings her family with her because after SSW ends, she takes an extended vacation.

Pure and simple, Disney can't make rooms magically appear if they are all booked up. This is the problem that they faced. I was just doing a favor by confirming the dates - even though I have a personal interest in it as well.

The reservation agents will not give the info until they are told to. Trust and believe, many reservation agents know, but until they are given their agent update they can not - and no one is going to give the answer out until Disney is ready to release it. No agent will give that info out over the phone. I understand your impatience, but just book a room for the 15th and 16th. That is when it will be. You don't have to believe me, but I have my hotel booked already.

I was the one who mentioned the 4 hotels that they block.

Thanks for the clarification. Didn't read it right that you have more info that you can't share before. My dates wont' change due to this we were doing the dates we were doing regardless of SSW. I was just hoping to have a whole day for myself to go and it looks like that won't happen now. We leave on the 15th to go home so I will probably just go for a few hours and see the action then rejoin the family for our last park day.

I don't mean that SSW is not a busy time, I mean early November - compared to the rest of the year is not a busy time. Jersey week I've read has gotten more and more crowded but other than the events that are taking place I was under the impression it was pretty slow. I was able to get 8 nights in a 1BR at the Wilderness lodge 7 months out and I've never been able to get anythign there other times (we own at SSR).

Don't these events draw tons of locals as well? F&W also?

All Disney events draw locals. However, I have never seen any event as crazy as SSW - not even Star Wars Weekends is as crazy! People come from all over. I know people who come from Canada, New York, Los Angeles, Texas, Washington just to attend this event. It's bizarre. I'm local so I go to these events all the time - F&W is busy, but not as busy because it's broken up over a long period of time.

Just wondering do people that come for this event come early or stay over type of thing? or they usually just come for the weekend? We are arriving on the 15th...Thinking this event was going to be the week before....We will stay away from DHS for the weekend...Just wondering if this event leads to crowds in other parks for the week.

PS-Hope all of you that are going have a great time :thumbsup2

Usually people stay from Friday to Monday because the event runs till night on Sunday. I honestly don't know what the crowds are like first hand because I am usually at DHS, but when F&W is going on at the same time, EPCOT is crazy too...

Use your best judgement to avoid the crowds. Have fun!

Crowds should be OK at other parks, I attend every year, and usually arrive on Friday and leave Monday. Now, being it so close to Thanksgiving, I will have to arrive Fri and leave on Sunday.:sad2: SAT IS THE BUSIEST DAY, with Sunday being not too bad.;) Thats how its been the last 4 years when the Fastpasses were implimented.;)

I personally do not think it will be the 15 and 16th, as that is too close to Thanksgiving, and MVMCP will be going on at the same time, how are they going to adjust everything?:confused3 I am still looking at Nov. 8 and 9th as the actual dates, and will be booking a room soon.;)

I had already booked for the weekend of the 8-9 as that follows the 2nd weekend of Nov. pattern. However I am not so sure anymore...as far as thanksgiving is concerned it would be as close to thanksgiving as it was last year...2007 ssw was the weekend of 10-11 with thanksgiving falling on the 22nd. If the weekend of the 15-16 is ssw and thanksgiving is the 27th that is the same number of days in between. Who knows how it will go at this point but I did call and make a reservation for the 15-16 also just to be safe and I was able to get into my 1st choice hotel (for the 8-9 I am waitlisted for my 1st choice:))

OK, so I guess I will book too! Better safe than sorry.:confused3

Aears has it on there website for the weekend of Nov 15&16 2008.That means the parks will be less crowed the weekend of Jersey week.

Add me to the list of being freaked out if its not the 8th and the 9th. We are DVC members and have a room booked at the Beach Club for that weekend!

Sorry to disappoint you - it's the following weekend. Susan Lucci's breakfast is the 14th and SSW events at DHS is the 15th and 16th.

TS, for weeks on end you insisted it was the 8th and 9th and that you had inside information to this fact. Now you are insisting it's the 15th and 16th because of Susan Lucci's breakfast and what was posted on the Disney news site and again, your inside information. I don't think at this point you should insist it's either week because quite frankly, you, nor any of us knows for sure.

I have just heard they haven't posted the dates for SSW because they can't get a firm commitment from many of the big stars. I guess they were not happy with security last year. My sil is on an ABC soap site and that's the rumor going around over there. It makes more sense than Disney not blocking rooms in time. It also makes sense as to why they can't post Novembers hours until they have SSW set in stone.

I have been wanting to go to SSW forever- but it never has seemed to work out to where I could.. Anyway, I have decided that this is the year I will go.. But I have a few questions for all who have been before- what should I expect, would this be a fun weekend for friends and family, or would it be better to attend the festivities myself and leave my family to do other things?

I am a person who loves to go to book signings, and events where I can meet people and actors... My family- not so much into it... As that I want everyone to be happy- I am looking for thoughts... Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have to agree with this statement, I just wish they would figure it all out & let us know!!

It's most definitely geared towards die hard soap opera fans.
We're going with my sil, but dd and I will be doing our own thing while sil stands in line for autographs and photo ops. We'll meet up for meals and maybe a show or two. :)

Well, you can believe whatever rumor you want to believe. I'm not here to refute rumors. Back in December when I booked my room, I was told that it was set for the 8th and 9th. However, as i've said previously in past posts, Disney has had problems with blocking the rooms for SSW, which is why the weekends were switched to the 15th and the 16th. I have this confirmed - you can believe me or not, doesn't really make much of a difference. I am not giving my information based on when Susan Lucci's breakfast is, but information I have from contacts of mine with access to this information.

The holding off on the dates has absolutely nothing to do with celebrity commitment. They have an A list, a B list and a C list of celebrities that they invite and celebrity guests are not confirmed anyway until Sept. This could make more sense to you, but it doesn't change the fact that it's not the truth.

They have it figured out actually. It may not always appear that way from the guest end of things, but believe it or not, they do have things planned out.
