Super Soap Weekend 2008?

Yes, your right it was either the end of April beginning of May. It really should be any time though. I found another link on another site. A girl that works for Disney was invited to last year to escort one of the stars around for the weekend and turned it down!~ She said she wouldn't do that anymore and she also knows that the dates for this year are Nov 8 & 9th. Said they have (the Soap stars) have been booked for months but don'trelease dates to mid year. Hope this helps!
Does anyone remember what month they confirmed the dates for SSW last year?? We're not booking our trip until the dates are confirmed. I thought it was confirmed by this time last year, but I could be wrong.

I haven't been to Super Soap weekend since they started using the Fast Passes. I had a question- for the people who get there really early in the morning, like 3 am or so, how do they get in? I thought that the park gates only open at a certain time? Are the fast pass ticket kiosks inside the gates? Also, is there parking in the parking lot that early? How does it all work? Any info would really help out!
Thanks!

Hey! :yay: Welcome to the disboards! Well, there is a lot of info above in some previous posts so check those out if you haven't yet.

They do let you park that early as far as I know, but not positive. I just take a taxi over from my room at CBR, no car for me, and buses don't start till like 7am.
But, getting there early, and that's early  !, you still just wait in line until park opening at 8am. You are just in the front of the line so you get in first. I usually try for 6am which is really too early for me, I'm a late to bed, late to rise person, but no choice to get a FP. They have lines for each show out front, so 3 long lines. They have opened early if lines are terrible and they try to alleviate them a bit this way, but then they just continue to keep you in lines for the each show and eventually snake you through the park to that area. They do not just let you run wild to get to the front of the line or to get to the kiosks. The GH one is down around the Indiana Jones area, OL is at the Star Wars attraction, and AMC is back around the backlot or stunt area, I can't remember the name right now, sorry. They have a FP machine for each actor and when you get to the front of the line, the cm asks you which actor you want an auto. for of the actors who are still available and then you go up to that machine to get a FP where a cm is there at each machine so you can only get one FP. They do not let you get a FP with someone else's ticket, each person only gets one for themselves, then you can get back in a line for the actor you want to try for next. They usually put a cover on the machine when it's totally done. For each autograph session, they have about a 100 tickets per actor(don't know the exact number), and then a certain number for standby, where they try to get extra fans in a session depending on how the time goes, but those are not guaranteed. I'm not sure, but I think they sell the regular FPs first, then when those are gone, they start the standby FPs. :goodvibes

Usually each actor has two sessions per day, some have three, sometimes depending on how many other activities they participate in. While waiting in the FP lines, after a while, the cm's will start to update the status on which actors are still available and which time sessions they are giving FPs for or standbys, or when an actor's FP is no longer available. If you have an absolute favorite must have, go for them first! :lovestruc
Fastpasses are usually all gone by 9 - 9:30, maybe 10am approximately. The schedules are found either online shortly before ssw, or in the soap mags they pass out while you are waiting. They have all the info on auto sessions, and all the other stuff going on, and maps of where everything is, including where each actors station is located. :thumbsup2

Now, usually getting 2 if you've come early, maybe 3 if really early, is what happens, though not always for your favorites. Some people somehow get more but they must be at the front of the line and, well, I don't know, I haven't figured that out yet! Anyway, although although you may not get each FP you want, you may still get some autos and pic for sure. Some actors will come over the barricade by their station and take a quick pic or give a hug, or give autos, or a combination. Some actors don't leave until everyone who waited gets something, though they have personal cms trying to move them along sometimes, and sometimes they do have places they have to be at a certain time. Sometimes they run over to the fence in between FP fans, sometimes after all fp and standbys. My point is, it often pays to wait if you have a favorite actor and no FP or standby ticket. And, of course you can always take pic while they are giving out autos from the pic taking area. A few I know who do this are Tad(amc), Sam, Logan, Spinelli, Lucky, Patrick, (GH), Cole, Ex-Evangeline, Nash (OL). These are from my personal experience and they were awesome! Actually last year, we didn't even come early for FP on the second day, we just went to different sessions we wanted and had a great time and had great interactions and got some autos and pic w/ actors. :cool1:

Okay, so I've babbled far too long, sorry! I'd be happy to help if you have anymore questions, so just ask, if you dare! :rolleyes1 Hopefully this was somewhat helpful.

My DD17 and I had a great time the last couple yrs and are really looking forward to going again this year! I think you'll love it! It's sort of crazy and crowded but lots of fun! :dance3:

Thanks for all the info! I appreciate it.

I know other years before they've had a thing where there's Q & A, and a thing that shows you previews of what's going to happen before the publuc sees, also where they pick someone to act out a scene with the soap stars, and a motorcade & street party where some of them perform (singing & dancing). Its a blast! I can't hardly wait!!

Here is a link http://www.studioscentral.com/ssw.html that will take you to a page that has lots of info from past SSWs. There are links that will take you to the schedules they had last year for the auto. sessions and the various activities throughout the day. :thumbsup2 We seem to remember there was maybe one other event the previous year but don't remember for sure and haven't actually looked it up.

You usually have to get in line and wait ahead of time for the events, maybe even up to an hour or more to make sure you get in especially for very popular things like a super talk show for GH guys, or they may tell you you'll have to wait for the next event. Last year we thought we missed getting in and would miss the one we wanted(with GH guys!), but they were still figuring things and ended up letting many more fans in. That was because last yr they did move the big things like the talk shows to a bigger place, down past rockin roller coaster and ToT, and they didn't seem sure early on Sat. how many they could get in there. It did seem to hold more people than the commissary they used the previous year for the shows.

They had the game show over by where Beauty and The Beast was. They did some talk shows, that followed the small motorcades throughout the day, with the four guests on the stage in front of the Sorcerers hat. The stage area is cool, with a giant screen at the back of the stage so you can see whats going on even if you are not up front. That is also where they had the Street Jam following final motorcade with everyone down the boulevard leading up to the stage. They are usually lots of fun, though we much preferred '06 to the one in '07. Also, in '06 they did some holiday songs which was fun, last yr they didn't. But there were fireworks so that was cool.

Anyway, a great fun weekend for sure! I've heard people complain of rude fans, but really we didn't encounter that at all. Actually, meeting other fans was really one of the great things about the weekend! :goodvibes

Hello all!
I was so glad to find this board, a friend told me about it. I've been checking disneyworld website daily and calling disney every couple of days to see if dates have been released yet. I'm hoping it's Nov 8 & 9. I have some medical issues, and go for treatments every 6 weeks, so the 15 & 16 wouldn't work for me.

I'm curious, I've never been to SSW before, but have always wanted to go. I wasn't aware about the lines at the crack of dawn for fast passes. Unfortunately, one of the set backs of my medical issues is that morning is not a good time of the day for me. If I weren't able to get their early AM for the fast passes, is it still worth it to come for the other events they have throughout the day? Where do you usually stay?

I watch all the ABC soaps, but have to say GH is my favorite of the 3.

I'd appreciate any helpful hinters!

We were in Disney last year when it was going on so we stopped by MGM on Sunday to see how it was and my DD 13 loved it. We didn't get up early for the fast passes. We thought about it but we were told by the front desk if at all possible stay away from MGM. That it was a mad house and we would get run over.
I couldn't stay away any longer so we checked it out on Sunday, I was so upset we didn't go on Saturday. We had a ball.
The Block Party was great we seen all the stars and got some great pictures.
They even had a little store set up of clothes that were worn on the shows.
My DD loved trying on all the gowns from the Prom on OLTL. The one we really wanted someone else bought.

I was not disappointed about not getting the fast passes. We just went to each station and took pictures, some stars posed and some even leaned over for hugs. This way we didn't have to wait in line and we still saw everyone.

We are going back this year, I don't know yet if I'll wait for the fast passes, but I will be at DHS on both days this time.

I have to tell you, I was sitting in the lobby with my DS at BW and I was staring out the door waiting for my DH and DD when this guy was coming up the steps. I thought,
hmmmm this guy looks familiar. I think I know him but I am not sure. As he is getting closer to the door. I think man he looks like Tad Martin, from AMC, but nah it's not him. He walks in and walked right pass me, I mean I could have trip him and he would have fell right on me, that is how close he was.:rotfl:
Then it hits me OMG it is Tad Martin. I couldn't think of his real name {Michael Knight} quick enough to call out to him, because I am in shock. I call my sister and start screaming Michael Knight just passed me, he went down the hall. She is screaming go get his picture, I look up and he is now leaving through the other door. By the time I rounded up my son he was gone.:sad1:
But I did get a nice picture of him on Sunday at the park:)
We can't wait to get back there.

I would say absolutely it is still worth it to go even without getting FPs!! :thumbsup2 If you read back in the last page, I have a few (wordy, lol!) posts and mention that you can still have interaction with lots of the actors at their auto. session. Most of them are just great and try to squeeze in as many as they can, running over to the fence for photos or quick autos. or hugs. Michael E. Knight (Tad Martin) was awesome 2 yrs ago. I got a pic and hug waiting at the fence. Then, when his session time was up, he still walked down the street to take some more pic with people who'd been watching at the fence, though no autos. as he did have somewhere to be. We went for the first time that year for My DD's 16 bday. she got next to him while walking and when I told him it was her bday trip, he was so sweet, grabbed her and kissed her on both cheeks, said "oh, awesome, happy 16th bday baby, I hope you really have a great year!", :lovestruc ,really paying attention and bending down a bit to take a nice pic(he's really tall and she's not, so they weren't fitting in the pic!). Anyway, I'm so jealous, I was the one who wanted to meet him and she ended up thinking he was awesome, not moldy oldy as her friends back home said, lol. We did get FPs for him this last yr when we went again and he remembered her! We'll see this year when we go for my 50:scared1: and her 18.

The different talk shows and game shows throughout the day are lots of fun. They also have small motorcades throughout the day, with about 4 or 5 actors from one show, each in a convertible, heading towards the sorcerer's stage for a talk show. You can see the stage from a distance with a big screen set up behind them if you can't get too close. Really there is always something to do or wait for. There can be a lot of waiting. But, just going to the auto. locations and taking pic and watching the actors interact with fans is lots of fun! GH definitely seems to be the most popular show, so lines are longest for GH events and FPs. The Hot Guys from GH show was very popular and a great time! :woohoo:

I didn't find the crowds really too bad at all, though probably worse on Sat, Sun wasn't bad. We didn't do any rides so not sure how they were. Probably not bad with people avoiding the park who aren't soap fans. We stay at CBR when we go and for this, we take a taxi to get there early, or the buses(start at 7am) when we didn't get FPs on Sunday. We watch all three shows, too, though DD17 not OL or AMC as much during school year.

Okay, sorry again to babble so much. We had a great time so I love talking about it to people who have been or will go. Any more questions, just ask! :goodvibes

SSW is going to be the 8th and the 9th. It is ALWAYS the second weekend in November (incidentally, it is always the same weekend as the Festival of the Masters too). You won't find it listed on ABC or Disney's site as they usually wait until it gets closer. Hope this helps...any more info, let me know and i'll answer :)

Where and what is BW? I'm not all brushed up on the Disney lingo. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences! It makes me want to go even more! I'll have to talk to my friend, and see if she's still interested in going, so I can get some travels plans in motion.

How do you usually do it? I was on a cruise in February, so don't have much vacation time left to take, so I may have to fly down Friday and fly home Sunday or Monday morning. Where do you usually stay? I've stayed at CBR & Swan. I know those are real close by to there. Is there a Value resort close also?

The 14th & 15th of November is a Friday & Saturday. Isn't the event usually set up for Saturday & Sunday? Those might be old dates from a previous years event. I found that when I had done a search trying to find this years dates, I found all the dates from previous years

BW is for Boardwalk and it located near Epcot and across from the Swan. The value resorts are farther away. I like the BW so we can just walk over to DHS{MGM}. We are going down on the 4th and staying through to the 12th.

I just read on Allears.net SSW is confirmed for Nov. 15th and 16th.

My brother received a discount code from Disney for the week of SSW. His postcard said that SSW was Nov. 8th and 9th.

This is the best thing to hear! I doubt I'm going to go early enough for FP since I'm ditching my family for the day and going alone. THey will go do some boy stuff without me I'm sure!

I'm happy to hear I should be able to get close enough for pics without having to do an autograph and I totally forgot that they would all probably be floating around during that time on disney property as well!!

Does anyone know if they put all the soaps starts up in one location or do they just go wherever?

I can't believe allears posted that before Disney has even announced it.
I really need to know soon as airfare seems to be going up every day.
Darn my soap loving sister in law! ;)

Last November we were staying at the Beach Club during Soap Weekend. Saturday morning I decided to go over to MGM just to see how crowded things would be. As I was walking toward the elevator I noticed a couple of security people waiting by the doors as I got in. The next thing I knew Susan Lucci was getting in the elevator with me. Talk about surprises!

We are getting married in WDW on November 10th and hope it is the weekend before the wedding. We have a few guets that are big Soap watchers and they want to attend the weekend.

Linda
