Super Goofs March Challenge

OK Supper Goofs, one more player and you guys are back to full strength, so please welcome Shannon, Florida Girl. She will be along shortly to say hello.

Walking Panda:hippie:

All I can say is you guys are the best! :goodvibes

I am just such a huge ball of stress lately, I am really no good to anyone. Let alone myself. I have to start taking more care of me and getting sleep. Sleeping 4-5 hours a night during the week is slowly killing me. Nevermind that I live with a major pack rat (love ya, honey!) and am desperately trying to declutter our basement so we can have a much-needed rec. room down there. Oh yeah, haven't done our taxes yet, gotten passports yet, etc, etc, etc.

I am still going to w/o as much as I can fit in while catching up with all kinds of things around here, and getting alot more SLEEP!

Finally, I can post now. I've had such trouble with the Internet since our 10 inches of snow last Friday. Every time I've tried to post, my service would freeze or kick me out. Geez! :sad2:

Lisa, is it too late to add to last week's totals or do you want me to just add to this week's?

Here's Steve's (in addition to what we've already posted):

Wed: 1 hour /1 mile
Thur: 30 min/ 2 miles

Mine:

Wed: 1 hour/ 2 miles
Fri: 1 hour / 2 miles

Kristi - oh, no! We don't want you to leave. There are days that I can't work out but there will be days I can. Just take a breather for a month or two or three. No biggie! We don't mind.

:welcome: New Super Goofs! Glad to have you on our team. party:

 Hi Super Goofs!

I'm a 33 year-young mother of two (DS-7 and DD-3). I've been married to my college sweetheart for almost 9 years and we both currently serve in the US Air Force.

I've always been pretty athletic and love playing sports. I recently started back playing soccer with an adult league and enjoy getting back on the field. Running, however, has never been my thing. I never really enjoyed running for the sake of running, but rather thought of it as a necessary evil that would help me get in shape for another sport...that is until last year...

In Feb 2007 I was talking with a co-worker who had just come back from completing the WDW Goofy challenge...until then I had never heard about the WDW Marathon Weekend. It sounded fun, and since I grew up in South Florida and have always been a big Disney fan, running a race at Disney seemed like the perfect motivation. I completed the Half Marathon in Jan 08 and it was a blast! Two weeks later I signed up for the Minnie Marathon in May.

Running is now becoming a family affair, as my DS has now expressed interest in running the Go Red for Women 5K in May. Also, I've inspired my dad to get back into running after 30 yrs...in the last couple of months he's completed three 5Ks, and he's joining my son and I for the 5K in May.

We're moving from Panama City to Oklahoma City in July, so I'm pretty sure WDW Marathon Weekend is out of the question for 2009. I'm setting my sights on the 2010 Goofy Challenge...so it's perfectly fitting that I'm joining the Super Goofs team. :goofy:

I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Good early a.m. Goofs.

A big WELCOME to Florida Girl. My DSis was stationed at Tinker oh so many years ago and stayed there for good so if you need a friend out there, I can hook ya up. She has a nearly 14yo DD so babysitting services too possibly.

DB: Did you do your race on Saturday?? If so, post your miles and times.

FYI for any newcomers, any organized race that you participate in counts as double miles so, Florida Girl, you actually did 6.2 in 33:10, very impressive!!!!

Kristi: I hope you see that you will be very sadly missed by all the original Goofs. Is Chad staying with us or is he leaving too?? That would make us doubly sad......

ArelysAdriana, Hockeygirl, lllovell, SAP1227 and DH....are you out there?? I never got miles/hours for any of you last week. I know that LTO sometimes but if you are not going to post for awhile (vaca, LTO, sickness, etcetera) you need to let either Susie or I know so that I don't have a replacement sent in. The spreadsheet is confusing enough (hence my 911 call) I don't want to replace someone who does not need replacing!!!

As for me, I took yesterday off. I had an AWESOME run on Saturday and yesterday was kind of blah for me with tons of :laundy: backed up so I took the day to get that chore done. My feet needed a break also as I ran every workout last week without any XT (I can hear the scolding now, bad Lisa, bad...).

I have decided that instead of your inspirational quotes, I am going to cite a challenge weekly and then one monthly also. Sooooooo.....

For the month of March: Your challenge is to add either 1 more mile or 30 more minutes to your totals from last month. Now for you newcomers this will be easy since you had no "official" counts for last month but there is always next month......

For this week: Everyone has to add one burst interval to their workout either walking or running. During your workout, after your warmup, I want everyone to hit a pace that is faster than they would normally hit. For example, for me, this means at some point during my run, I am going to try and hit an 8 mpm pace. Now the challenge come in that you have to maintain that pace for at least 30 seconds.

GOOD LUCK SUPER GOOFS!!!!!!!!!

Lisa Speed bursts, eh? Well, why not. I'll see your 8 mpm and raise you--well, I think I'll just "see" if I can do the 8 mpm!

Susie Hope you find your airfare to come run the Minnie. The more SuperGoofs, the better.

Shannon Welcome! We are a wonderful bunch of people. Really. That's what everyone (in this group) tells us.;)

As for me, I did 60 minutes of Aqua Aerobics yesterday and 60 minutes of stretch & strengthen today. Now if I can figure out what I did to my elbow, I will be good.

And got to try out some new gear over the weekend, so that was good. My Nathan Speedbelt2 worked great. My only learning from my 6 mile run--snip the top of the Sport Bean package so I don't have to mess with trying to rip it open--wasted a lot of time and energy with that before I got to the goods!
And my bargain for the week--I got a $36 UnderArmour shirt at Nordstrom marked down to $12!

Maura

Carla: Just another FYI for you and the other newcomers. We track miles and/or hours meaning, if you run, bike, walk, or anything that involves miles you get credit for those. Also, when you do these activiites, you get credit for your time too. Example, 3.0 miles in 30 minutes (if you are lucky and fast which I am not). In addition, if you do something like strength train for 45 minutes, an hour long aerobics or yoga class, swim, horseback riding (;) ) etcetera that you do not gain miles from or have no way to track miles with, you get credit for the time spent doing the activity. Housework does not count although I believe if anyone every watched me clean the house, this would change. Just step back, momma's comin through!!!!!!!

14.2 miles is AWESOME and such a great addition to our team totals for the week!!!!

Wow, LTO is right.......I am seriously glad to have this challenge in my life right now. Without it, I might not be exercising at all. My life is topsy/turvey right now. But, I MADE myself get outside yesterday in 20 degree weather with 30 MPH winds for a 5miler. I didn't want to.....my dh was giving me a free pass with no guilt.....but I knew I wanted to get it done. Getting outside can be difficult, but it always makes me feel better. So, out I went......grudgingly at first, but then really glad!

so..... time: 60:00
miles: 5

That made my weekend total 15 miles, which I am happy with! Especially since my life is so hectic right now. So, again Super Goofs, thank you!

Beth

Good Morning Goofs!

Dh and I joined a new gym over the weekend so hopefully I will get motivated and start doing more cross training! I am hoping I can get my shores done this morning so that I have time to take a class there this afternoon.

Welcome Shannon and Raenstorm!

Shannon - I lived in Pensacola for a year. I love Panama City though. Dh used to do the triathlon there every May but then LTO. Hopefully, with our new gym membership he can start doing more tri training again.

Lisa- Can I count 30 minutes of warming up fielders for a softball game? My legs were still pretty sore and stiff but I was moving the entire time. (they won 9-5)

Cecilia

Cecilia: Yay for winning!! I am going to say a tentative yes to counting warming up fielders. I would count catching for DD as something similar to strength training (dang squats I hate em and so do my knees!!) but I will check with the illustrious Panda for confirmation on that. We are supposed to be able to count a sporting activity that we participate in and, in as much as an adult softball game would count, I would count this also. Just for safety sake, I will check though. I can't believe you are starting softball already. Of course, we are STILL playing field hockey.......:sad2:

Oh, Carla, one more thing....we are headed to DC in April for a family vaca on the train from Boston. Any insider tips you want to share with me??????

Ok, I think I've caught up on posts for this month now.

Welcome DB, Carla, Dona, Lynnielou, and Shannon to Super Goofs! :cheer2:

Maura – congrats on signing up for the half. The half in ’07 was my first race ever. I had a blast and I know you will too!

Lisa - on being in last place – we can only go up and we will!!!! By the way, we live in AR (Arkansas) although I wouldn't mind living in Alaska for a while - especially during the HOT, HUMID months coming up soon. :teeth:

DB – congrats on signing up for your first race! Don’t worry about being in the “right” shape – just getting out there is what it’s all about. Remember, DLF>DNF>>DNS! I’ve been the DLF several times and I was a DNS most of my life. :teeth:

Cecilia – :wizard: for your leg pain. Ouch!

Beth – Wow! I won’t even go out in anything below 50 and you went out in 20 degree weather? You must be from the North!

Carla - congrats on the miles this weekend. Whew!

Oh, I forgot to post my mileage this weekend:

Saturday: 1 hour / 2 miles (+strength training)
Sunday: 8 miles / 2 hours
Steve:

Saturday: 3 miles / 1 hour
Sunday: 3.1 miles / 45 min.

Sorry Susie, sometimes I get a little lost....:upsidedow 50 degrees!!! I would LOVE to see 50 degrees let alone run in it. Here I was in WDW and it was 60 degrees the morning of the half, me in s/s tech shirt and running skirt breaking a sweat (not because I was nervous) and all these people were in pants, sweatshirts, blankets, etcetera looking at me like I was nuts!!

Maura: I forgot about congratulating you on signing up for the half!! Thank goodness for my co-pilot!!! Otherwise I would be lost. 2008 WDW was my very first half and it was an AWESOME experience. Make sure to attend the WISH meet at Pop on Friday evening and hook up with everyone. Faces to names is great!!!! You will have sooooooo much fun. Color me jealous!!!!

Lisa, sorry 'bout being late but I haven't been on...

3/7
1 mile/18 mins
30 mins shoveling and picking ice

3/8
3.1 miles/43.41 mins
This was my NHTI Spring Ahead 5K...my best time ever! I also placed 7th in Fillies! I'm proud of me!
and later that day, 1 more mile, 'cause my legs were SO tight, but I took it S L O W, so 26 more minutes

3/9
2 miles/34 mins

Welcome all new team members!!

Kristi, you can run (get it, ha ha) but you cant hide, we wont let you go that easy!!! Hope you get thru everything, just remember, this too shall pass....

Tracking time is not quite as easy for as tracking miles unless I am in class (I love Pilate's) or doing intentional cardio like the treadmill or jump rope. I live in a planned community so everything is within a mile or two walk. Yesterday I walked to Lowes, Kmart, Whole foods, Petsmart, and Dicks sporting goods to get all of my errands done. I also stopped in Michaels to browse, so as to how long I walked, 4 hours or so, but most of that was for the browsing and shopping, not the actual exercise. Getting to the places (and back) was the cardio of it. I wear a pedometer, so I know how far I have actually traveled.

Lisa, as for DC...how old are the members of your party and do they have any specific interests? I have lived in the area for 8 years, transplanted from NJ. For 2 years i lived within 3 blocks of the white house in fact, which was particularly "fun" over September 11th.

I head downtown at least once a month to find something "new" to see. Last month, it was the National Portrait Gallery. I had never been in there (walked by it a whole bunch of times though). Have to say, not one of my favorites, in the end.

Basic fun stuff includes, the wax museum, spy museum (both are privately owned and have fees to get in), and Edvar-Hazy Center, technically in VA, but part of the Smithsonian. There is a really cool mall right outside the Pentagon called Pentagon City (it is on the metro) if you want to do some shopping and we do have a Six Flags as well. Although that seems like a pointless trip to come all the way down and go to an amusement park! But if you have pre-teens that find history boring, it might make for an easy day mid trip. Then of course there are all the monuments, museums and Arlington Cemetery. Ask any questions you want!
