Rock on Super Goofs!!!

Good morning Goofs!! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I know I did.

I did not meet my goal for the Beach to Beacon race in posted time (1:00:19) yes 19 seconds!!! I got my shoelace stepped on and untied at the mile 2 water stop and had to pull over in a clear spot and retie. :sad2: Such is life in the racing world. My overall pace was 9:43 mpm so I cannot complain. That particular mile according to the trusted Garmin was 9:54 so there is the lost time. I am still VERY happy with my pace and time and would recommend this race to anyone close by. It is very well run and Joan Benoit Samuelson and Bill Rodgers were there for the start. The Kenyans ran in crazy time as usual (27 something for the male and 37 something for the female who was also 42!!!). It was fun, I had a great time running, there were spectacular people around me to talk to and I got lots of complements on my WISH singlet. Ah, life is truly good.

I took Sunday off and ate WAAAAAY too much seafood being that we were on the coast. We came home to greet the family who had driven up from Texas and had a huge family dinner last night too. Thankfully we eat mostly out of the gardens so I had tons of veggies!! Back to normal scheduling today of 3-5 miles plus hill sprints. It is pouring here and I may end up in the gym, we will see the weather situation when I get done work.

Great month of July Super Goofs. I will post the updated totals today and you can check out our standings later. Have a great day everyone!!

5/3
5.5 miles/92 mins
got rained out before I finished...oh well, cant control the weather!

Great Job on your race Lisa! 19 seconds will be easy to shave on your next race so just look at it as the dangling carrot.

Dh and I spent most of the weekend catching up on a huge list of honey-dos that we have been neglecting. Our neighbors had been taking turns mowing, edging and weeding our yard while Charley was sick so we had a big barbecue to say Thank you last night. It was interesting and challenging to host a party in our neighborhood since our neighbors are hindu, muslim, mormon, and catholic mixed with a few evangelical christians. Lets just say that we served a lot of vegetables and no alcohol to this particular crowd!

Cecilia

Cecilia, I figure I lost those 19 seconds carefully walk/jogging to a clear spot past the water stop and pulling over to tie. Note to self to double knot shoes in the future. I always double knot the chip shoe but never the other. I have learned my lesson.

Being that mile was 9:54 average and the rest were 9:25 to 9:40 miles I know I lost my goal in the shoe incident so I have no fear that I can make the under 60 minutes!!!

DH just read the paper and told me there is a local 5K on the 23rd of the month. Another chance to attempt the under 30 minute 5K!!!!!! :woohoo:

Lisa: Welcome back and congrats on a great race!!!

Goofs GO GO GO!!!

I should have had some miles to report today, but the only way my heart rate and blood pressure is going to rise is when I get to the New Balance store to have a chat with the manager about the NB shoes that I was switched to at the NB store...

I am having trouble even walking today, never mind jogging...

Mike

Sorry about the shoes Mike. I ran in the 1223s for awhile and ended up with PF. I took them back and they gave me another pair that were just as bad. I have found that I just cannot wear the NB shoes. I wear all the clothing though!! I can check at our local tent sale on Thursday and see if they have your old model there in your size.

Lisa:

Thank you very much!

I wore the 881s in size 12 D, and am going to the store to demand either 881s or 882s (which I guess are the next generation 881s) as replacements.

If its not too late, I may also dispute the charge on my credit card...I've been SO mad (at them, and me for not doing some research...but jeez, you'd think that you could trust the guy at the NB store to know what the next generation of HIS shoes are...) because I've been sitting here since Sunday morning icing my foot, I could eat barbed wire and spit tacks!

One thing I learned about setting a time goal for a first race at any distance is not to do it; the first time you run a distance, that is your PR! I found that I was disappointed in my time in my first duathlon (5 mile run, 40 mile bike, 5 mile run) because I missed by00:44.55, i never really celebrated the culmination of training, and that I had the ability to move 50 miles under my own power...something I never could have done prior to training.

When I did the 1/2 IM...the goal was to complete it...and when I did think about times during the hours of training, it turns out that I was way off on that...I had 6 hours in my mind as the fastest I could possibly do that event...and came in almost 10 minutes under that....once I stopped thinking about time, I got faster!

This wasn't to pimp my recent accomplishment, just an insight I had...I guess what I'm saying is don't beat yourself up over 19 seconds...the time you lost to slow down, stop, tie, and restart was probably more like 40 seconds than 19.

Congrats on a huge accomplishment!!!!!

Thanks for the pep talk Mike. I am not beating myself up about the 19 seconds. I know it took me that long to tie the shoe back up. I just made a mental note that the double knot of both shoes is a requirement for my next race. I am always so worried at the start that something like this will happen, not the mile 2 water stop!!! :lmao:

I will check on Thursday on the shoes. Sometimes they clear out the older or discontinued models and they are really cheap. Most of the shoes are under $50 a pair at this sale so it really is worth the money. I can PM you with the details on if they have them and the cost or, if you want to PM me your phone # for Thursday about 1-2 p.m. I will call you and I can pick them up right then.

Best of luck on the shoe exchange today. I hope things work out in your favor. Most of the time they are really good about exchanging shoes at my NB store and I have even got mine exchanged for clothes! Yes they should know what the replacement model is but I find that is not so much the case. We have one man who works up in the mens department that I go get for questions on shoes because he knows his stuff and is honest about it!

Mike Hope you have a productive and unstressful customer experience when you return your shoes.

Lisa Congrats on your race. It sounds like you ran well/felt good--which is just/almost as important as your time.

I went for a swim today. 40 minutes and about 1/2 mile plus some kick board time. Some big lug in the space next to me wascrowding me and I got swamped more than once. And this was at 5:30 am! I think from now on I need to do any swimming in the late afternoon before the evening rush.

Maura

Hi there Super Goofs! I hope everyone had a great weekend! My weekend was nice and relaxing for a change...we did do some wedding related things which is always fun!! Unfortunately my new gym which was supposed to open on Friday was delayed and it didn't open until today, so I didn't get any workouts in this weekend....but I went to the gym today!!! :cool1: :cool1:

My new gym is so awesome. It is a 24 hour Fitness...it is so nice, they have a pool, which is something I have really been looking forward to!!! Here are todays numbers:

30 min. swimming
1.5 miles on TM/20 min
Hockey game: 1.5 hours

Lisa--Congrats! on your race.....and a great pace too! Sometimes we have to learn the hard way simple things like double knotting our shoes. That happened to me my first race I ran...and now I always double knot my shoes!

Mike--Hope you were able to exchange your shoes. Unfortunately, I have never had a good shoe buying experience with New Balance, so I don't use them. Nike seems to be the only brand that works for me.

Cecilia--sounds like you had a busy weekend! Sounds like the BBQ was fun!

To everyone else...great job on your workouts..Keep up the great work!!

Hi All
Congrats Lisa- that is quite an accomplishment. You really should be proud of yourself.

I ran 3 miles on the treadmill in 36 minutes. I get conflicting distances between my ipod and the treadmill,. I think there is something really wrong with my Ipod.

This weekend I hit a rough spot. I did the Nashua Soup Kitchen 6K this spring. I was one of the last to finish but I had a blast. I let my family know I was beaten by an 80 year old man. Boy did they get a laugh out of that! He had been running his whole life and was in far better shape than I could ever hope to be but the fact that he was 80 I guess meant he should be slow. I looked at them and said "and how did you do?' That got them a little quiet for a moment. It really wasn't the support I was looking for!

Oh well- can't pick your family and I really would not trade any of them!

Hi Goofs

No run for me today and the weekend just passed was busy, mostly working.

I mow the lawn tonight for 90 minutes.

Lynn

Treadmill tonight. 3.25 miles in just under 45 minutes and I'm almost pain-free!

Good morning goofs!! I see we are all present and accounted for, working hard and getting it done!!

Kim: Yay for almost no pain!!! :woohoo:

Lynn: Too much work and no play???? :confused3

Joanne: As of now, I am not planning on the Maine Coast Half. It is another overnight for us and I currently have Hollis upcoming that is an overnight (maybe 2) and the ToT trip. My DD13 may be headed back to WDW with her field hockey team in February. Needless to say, I am going to have to start being a little more picky what races I do. Of course, that is not to say I cannot be talked into it.......:rolleyes1 (You know me all to well  ).

Mike: So, how did it go? :listen: Great shoe exchange?? Promotion and now you can come to the ToT race????

Laurie: I did get your miles from the other thread. I am pretty sure I posted them to the first week of August as the spreadsheet and my record keeping are not jiving right now. To me, last week was the last week of July but according to the spreadsheet, it was all mixed to together with the week before.

So vote, I can go back and add the previously posted miles/minutes from the final week of July to the ones I just posted to the first week of August OR I can add the ones I just posted to the first week of August to your miles/minutes from this week. Which do you all prefer. In terms of ease, it makes no difference so pull ahead in July or have a big August?

Everyone else: I have not forgotten you I am just running out of time (story of my life).

I will give you the rundown on my run from yesterday though. Three miles, #1-10:14 average, #2-9:44 average, and #3.1-9:14 average. Can you tell where it started downpouring on me? Yes I was a wet, soggy, dripping mess when I got home and not from the humidity. My shoes are still sloshing this morning. Thank goodness I rotate 2 pairs!!!!

Have a great day Goofs. I have 5 on for today and the sun is supposed to be out. Everyone keep moving strong!! :cheer2:

no miles from my feet hurting.

The different manager at New Balance fell all over himself to find me a pair of 882s, I am supposed to pick them up on Wednesday.

The local running store was a little less co=operative, but they took back my Asics Kayanos and swapped them for a pair of NB MR1062SB, which are also supposed to be a neutral running shoe.

Hopefully I can start back to activity tomorrow...I am going nuts from one scheduled and two UNscheduled rest days...

Mike

Mike, I had a similar thing happen before the WDW half in January. I had a surgery that took me out for 2 weeks. I could walk but not run. I also had PF that I was battling back from. I had to buy some orthotics in order to be able to walk the day following the half and/or any long run.

I hear you on the 2 days off without it being your choice. Just remember you have such a solid base built, you will be fine. And, I know it is hard to do as a runner but, can you walk or do you have an elliptical that you can use? It will make you feel better if you can do something, trust me!!!! :goodvibes
