Super Goofs End of Summer August thread

Good morning Goofs.

Lisa: Nice 'recovery' run.....you are much too fast for me right now!

Mike: Glad to hear that something good happened with the shoe problem. Hope they help.

I had to order my next pair of running shoes.....they were out of my size. It's coming down to the wire to get some miles in them before VA beach the end of the month.

Monday 8/4 totals:

Time: 2:00

Tuesday 8/5 totals:

Time: 1:00
Miles: 5

Just reporting in with 20 minute elliptical and 45 minutes Pilates today.

I'm still on my self-enforced "don't run til after vacation" rule in order to let my nagging injuries heal. That's the plan anyway, but I'm not sure how it's working! Here's hoping there's a little magic in the pool water at Old Key West, where I'll be next week. Or maybe I can snag some real pixie dust.

Maura

Hey everyone!

Lisa - congratualtions on your race! You are so speedy and getting faster all the time!!!

Laurie - those 24 hour fitness clubs are N-I-C-E!!! A friend of mine belongs to one in the Dallas area and I was so jealous of all the stuff they have. In addition, she got such a great rate as well. I think I pay as much in one year as she pays in three years. And, our gym doesn't have near the equipment and opportunities. I am so envious. Enjoy!!!

Kim - glad you are getting pain-free.

Joanne - I am always getting passed by 70 and 80ish year old men and women. I always tell people that it is a sign that there is still hope for me.

Mike - Sorry about your shoe mess. When I first started running about 2 years ago I had "experts" from one shoe store sell me a particular shoe and then another one (at another store) convinced me I needed a different type of shoe. The second expert seemed to make more sense so the shoe I trained with and wore in my first race ever, the WDW 1/2 in 2007, was not the shoe I should have been wearing. And, my feet paid the price. Ugh! At the time, I didn't know any better. It turns out that the first pair I bought was the better shoe but the wrong size. The "expert" didn't allow for feet swelling in longer distances.

Sorry for the rambling. I hope you are able to get your new shoes soon and back to successful runs.

Maura - are you training for a Tri by chance? I'm thinking about taking up swimming again - after YEARS & YEARS of no such activity. I'd like to do a Tri maybe next spring.

Steve and I went bike riding Sunday morning before the temps reached 107 degrees for the day. I think the heat index got up to 115 later that afternoon. Ugh!

Yesterday, I took the day off and went car shopping and clothes shopping. I wasn't successful with either which is probably a good thing. I've always wanted a Lexus but I just can't justify the price. However, the Lexus general manager called us the other day to let us know about the year-end sales closeouts so I thought I would test drive one for the heck of it. He's called us every year just to let us know about sales even though we haven't stepped foot in his business since 2000. Anyway, I test drove the car and of course, I fell in love with it. As it turns out, the GM was out yesterday. That's probably good because I got the ride out of my system and ready to look for other, LESS expensive options. :teeth:

Here are my miles for Sunday, Aug 3:

Susie: 27 miles, 1 hour, 45 minutes
Steve: 27.5 miles, 1 hour, 45 minutes
Steve: 30 minutes (Strength training)

Just a quick drive by report of my workout today:

30 minutes swimming
45 minutes of weights

Lisa--as for the miles and the spreadsheet....do whatever is easiest for you...it makes no difference to me.

Susie--When I first walked in my gym last week, I was AMAZED! It is one of the nicest gyms I have ever worked out in. Everyday I go, it seems I find something new about the club. Next thing I want to do is take a spinning or fitness class.they have lots of them!

To everyone else...keep up the good work!

Good "early" morning Goofs!

Been MIA for a few days. Monday was my first bday since losing my Mom and it was a happy and sad day all in one. DH and DD did a great job trying to keep me busy with lots of fun but it just wasn't the same. The old me would have sat on the couch with chips and ate all day. I am happy to report that while I did have some fries yesterday afternoon, there was no chips, dips, cookies, etc. I even asked DH not to buy a cake. We had a great dinner at Kobe Steakhouse and I felt full and satisfied, not stuffed and bloated after dinner. Sorry for rambling....

Monday...30 mins treadmill/1.39 miles

Tuesday...30 mins mowing
30 mins treadmill/1.48 miles

I am running at 4.2 on the treadmill for 30 seconds at a time now with walking at 3.0 the rest of the time. I am hoping to increase the running time alittle bit each day.

Happy Wednesday everyone!! :cool1:

5 miles, about an hour.

Most walking was due to training partner...I actually felt pretty good...I think the pain I did feel was mostly residual.

Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone!

Mike

Susie My plan was actually to try a tri at the end of this summer, but since I'm DOA on the running right now, I have given that up. Definitely next year!

Suzanne Happy belated birthday! It sounds like a bittersweet day, but you came through in a healthy way. And WTG on your running progress.

Mike Glad to hear your pain is going away. I recently went through the experience of having conflicting advice on running shoes (from an orthopedic doctor, no less) and frankly, I don't know where I stand now. Between different shoes and different insoles and different exercises, I've ended up with the same old pains and a few new ones. That's why I'm off running for 3-4 weeks--just to see if I can give everything time to heal. Then I'll start from the beginning.

Anyway, today I did 1 hour spinning class. Man, sweat just flies off during that class!

Maura

Hi

4.4 in 43 minutes today.

My quads were very tired from all the painting I have been doing.

Kim and Mike - glad to hear you are both on the mend.

Cecilia

Suzanne - :grouphug: Congratulations on celebrating without sabotaging all your hard work! Way to go! It was a tough day to get through but you did it!

Cecilia

Glad to hear you kept your willpower on your birthday, Suzanne. Sorry to hear about each milestone being bittersweet lately. I hope it gets easier for you as the weeks and months pass.

I'm just logging in to commit to more miles now that my injuries are just about resolved. As an added bonus, the kids start school tomorrow and that means their afterschool program at the Y starts up as well. If I'm walking in there 5 days a week, I think my workout frequency is simply bound to increase!

Update for today:

30 min. swimming
15 min elliptical

30 min weights

sorry no time to post more, but I am heading out to meet with a photographer for my wedding!!! :cool1:

Hi Goofs,

Hooray! I got an outside run in this evening before dinner.

3.3 miles in 45 mintues. I am pretty happy about that.

I want to take a minute and let everyone know that I appreciate every ounce of support I receive as a member of the super goofs team. We really do have a great bunch of team members ~~ it is so obvious in our posts.

DD is coming tomorrow after work and staying through Monday morning, I told her to bring her running stuff! We will have a busy weekend in store, however, as we are attending a local scrapbooking/crop weekend with about 58 other women. Anyone here ever heard of the "cricut"? It is a personal die cutting machine for crafting, scrapbooking, card making, etc. Well the local event here is a "cricut swarm/gathering". Should be a grand time. Some are flying in from Texas!.

Anyhow need to fit in exercise time.

Plan on running again tomorrow.

Lynn

Hi Super Goofs,

Sorry been away for so long. Making a commitment to get back on track this month . I'm trying to walk at lunch time and doing ellipitcal at night . Totals so far:

Bootcamp aerobics class: 2 hours
Walking outside: 10 miles / 184 minutes
Ellipitical : 8.2 miles / 120 minutes
Wii Fit: 30 minutes

Thanks for having me back :yay:

Happy Thursday everyone!

Mad I didn't get a long walk/jog in this week but its been over 100 everyday with the heat index and I don't want to make myself sick.

Wednesday...30 mins treadmill/1.46 miles

Thanks for the kind words ksoehrlein. They really mean alot to me!

Good morning Goofs. Sorry I missed a day but Wednesday is my day to play with my kidlets and I only have 2 more left before they start school. We went to see Wall-E. A cute movie and the premise is so foreseeable in the supersize world we live in.

Suzanne:  Bittersweet but mom would be proud of you for your commitment to yourself. Always remember that in your heart. I tell my dad thank you every time I cross the finish line. :flower3:

Shannon: Of course you are still part of the team!! How is OK compared with FL??

Kim, Maura and Mike: Get better!!!! :wizard:

Everyone else: Hi!!! :yay:

As for me, I did my 4 in 43:19 on Tuesday. A big fat nothing for yesterday as I said, kidlet day. It rained all day yesterday, will today and tomorrow. Highs in the 60s. We are ready to start up the outside wood boiler again for some heat in the house!!! :scared1: So, it is TM for me :sad2: and we all know how I LOVE the TM!! Today is the NB sale so yay for something small. Mike, if you don't hear from me, there were no 881s. I got my Beach to Beacon photos from ASI (asiorders.com and #3169) and I hate them. No dislike, true unadulterated hate. My hips are HUGE and I am not happy with them at all. :scared: I have some serious work to do!!! Oh and no more of this popcorn::

So have a great day everyone, get out there and work. My goal for now is a long/short-term one. I want to be happy with my ToT photos so I am going to revamp my weight routine and get rid of my hips!!

8 miles, 40 minute ride.

I have a 4 mile run on tap for Friday, 11 mile run for Saturday, 36 holes of golf on saturday and a sprint triathlon scheduled for Sunday...I may ride my bike to the tri start (about 15 miles each way) to get some saddle time in, but I haven't decided for sure yet.

Lisa, I think your photos and running form look great; your fists aren't clenched, your arms aren't held too high, your arm swing looks to be straight rather than across your body, your hips and shoulders are nicely aligned...lots of stuff to be pleased with, particularly since those pics look to be taken near the finish, when you might have been getting tired and your form would be sloppy.

Mike

Thanks for the boost Mike. It is easier for someone else to see the good. All I can see is my hips. Yes, they were at the finish line. They only took pics of the elites at the start and on the course so the rest of us were all finish line photos.

Riding your bike to the start of a sprint tri....at what point do we realize that this is a sickness???? Last year, I ran a 5K with my DD and then redid the course when we were done so I could get 6 in while everyone else was celebrating, eating, etcetera. DUH!!

Lisa, were you carrying some gels or something in side pockets on the shorts? they were also probably bunching up a little after a 6 mile run....

Just something to consider.
