Super Goofs End of Summer August thread

Good morning Goofs! I am feeling a little :guilty: today. My miles are soooo far off now, there is no recovering and....they dropped second crop hay yesterday which means my exercise tomorrow will be picking up another round of hay. I could just cry.

Tuesday, I got to the gym, did upper body :sad2: and hit the elliptical for 30 minutes and went 5.20 miles. Yesterday, I ran/walked at the track with my DS6 while DD13 did field hockey preseason for an hour and a half. I had 5 miles in an hour. Not my most stellar time but considering that DS went 1.75 miles of that with me....:goodvibes My last mile was a 9:14 pace so I cannot complain....totally....well okay a little. I am going to try for 5-6 today and then tomorrow is a bust. Yes I get hours but no miles and no gym again and my upper body is already sore. :scared:

There, done venting...

Kim: :woohoo: :woohoo: Yay for you signing up for the WDW half. This was my first half this past January. You will not regret your decision. Be sure to attend the WISH meet at Pop on Friday night and put faces to names. It will be great!!!

Suzanne: Yay for just rain. Glad to hear you are okay and were still able to exercise too!!

Mike: Tired, yikes, I would be napping the rest of the day. You sure are an Ironman!!

Beth: Did you say you were not consistent? You are one of the most consistent people I know!!! Are you gearing up for RnR VA Beach? Excited? I know I am for you!!

Susie: I started at 39. I had lost my dad to colon cancer and realized that the extra weight I was carrying was just not going to be good in the long run. My DH decided to go on South Beach and he lost 50 pounds. Me not so much so I figured I needed to start moving. My goal was to not be a fat 40. I feel that I have somewhat attained that goal but I still have about 5 pounds to lose to make me happy and 10 to make me feel really good about going into my 50s!!

To the rest of my Goofs: :flower3: Keep up the good work. You are all getting closer to a new year of health and well being every day that goes by!!!

Good Morning Goofs!!

I can not tell you how tough it has been to get my runs in! My running partner has training this week and its so easy to put my run off all day if I don't have someone waiting for me. Pitiful excuse I know....

I did manage 4.6 miles yesterday while DD12 was at practice. I think it took right at 45 minutes but I didn't time it so I am going on someone else's watch. (When I ask you to time me, I mean actually LOOK at your watch.... gees)

Kim! Yeah! I hope you have as great an experience as I did with TNT! Get your website going ASAP and send a letter to everyone you know. I think you will be amazed by the response. I know I was.

Maura - Good Luck with the PT. Hip/knee sounds like a ligament issue to me but who knows? I hope they are able to figure it out and get it fixed quickly.

Lisa - When I started training for Goofy last year, I hadn't run in 2 weeks because of moving. I was so far behind that it gave me nightmares. Don't forget that you have lots of muscle memory now to help you as you add miles this time. Trust me, you are gonna be fine.

Mike - I am tired for you.

Suzanne - We really would like to lasso that storm and pull it up here. Stay safe!

Lynn - Mowing grass in August is a major workout! Way to fit something in!

Beth - Your workout times continue to amaze me. Way to stick with it.

Take care everyone!
Cecilia

Thanks Lisa and Cecilia! It's nice of you to mention me! :goodvibes

I have been a little down lately......hard to get everything done, and I am not getting the miles I would like. Last night I got on the treadmill, but only lasted 15 min (((((after stretch class))))). I was really nauseated.....and running made it much worse.

After Pilates and stretch I sometimes get an upset stomach. Why would that be? I know it might be lactic acid, but running never makes me sick to my stomach like my classes do. It was really bad last night, or I would have kept going. I even skipped dinner last night ((((:scared: )))) I NEVER do that!

I feel fine today.....thank goodness. I am on tap for 5 miles tonight......let's all hope that it happens!

Wed totals (8/20)
Time: 75 min
Miles: 1

Beth

Beth: I am going to go out on a limb and guess that your issue is some reflux type symptomatology. Pilates and stretching puts you in "abnormal" positions where you could have some refluxing happening. It also strains your core and causes work where your body does not expect it. Try taking some OTC Zantac or such or even Tums before your next Pilates and see if it helps out some.

I get an upset stomach after running if I drink water or sports drink that is too cold. I know it sounds funny but it will instantly "lock" my stomach up and I get shooting pains and bad things start happening. :confused3

And of course we would mention you. You are quite the inspiration. I know both of use are crazy out straight right now so maybe we should have a miles pact for next week and see if we can use that to get our workouts in. We start school on the 27th, how about you???

Lisa: The kids start school on the 26th.....and I am looking forward to getting back into some kind of routine.....if you know what I mean! :lmao: Thanks for the idea of reflux......I never thought of that. I will try some tums or something next week.....maybe that will solve my problem!

My miles will continued to be messes up. My next 1/2 is Labor Day weekend....I am looking forward to some vacation, not the run so much. At this point I am just hoping to finish it and not die! Then I have Toronto the end of September. They are pretty close together, so I don't know quite how to handle the miles.

How about an October miles challenge? I would be geared up after my halfs....and it will keep me going in a good way. I am looking to do at least 30 miles a week.....what about you?

Beth

Beth, my next half is 10/4 (YAY HOLLIS APPLEFESTERS) but I have been trying to work up to 30 miles a week so my half training is not quite so stressful (mental and physical). Last week, I made it up to 26.18 and this week a measly 15ish. I may cast off the run today and take an hour bike to make up my miles and make me feel a little better about posting them this week!!

Here is my general training schedule before the half. This is the plan that was in Runners World a few months ago. If you follow this, you should only need 4 weeks to train for a 5K, 10K or a half. The full requires upping the LR to about 20 miles before starting the 4 week training.

M-3-5 miles plus 4 x10 sec hill sprints.
T-1 mile easy, 2-3 miles at HM pace, 1 mile easy (tempo)
W-Rest or XT
Th-2-4 miles easy and 2 miles moderate pace
F-5 miles easy with 6 x30 sec fartlet intervals at 5K pace or faster
Sa-Rest or XT
Su-9 miles easy.

This has been working for me and I was set to PR my 5K, made my 10K goal (sans shoe incident) and am hoping for a PR in Hollis. So, next week, I am shooting for:
Su-9 miles
M-5 miles plus hills
T-5 miles plus hills
W-??
Th-5-6 miles
F-5 miles
Sa-Probably rest with the LR tomorrow!!

That is 29-30 miles. Of course, we have a chiro appt on Monday, I have a staff meeting on Tuesday, kidlets start school Wednesday and I have a service on my car, ooooh and I have Thursday and Friday off. Maybe....just maybe.....

Did another 3.2 at the gym this am with a 6/2 R/W cadence. 34 minutes total plus a little foam rollering for a total of 40 minutes.

Sorry I'm not feeling SuperGoof-productive these days. Thank goodness everyone else is doing so great.

Maura

Good afternoon from a very soggy super goof

Here are my measly miles and hours for the rest of last week/beginning of this week:
Saturday 08/16 - 30min stretching/warming up, 3 miles/
Monday 08/18 - 30min stretching/warming up, 1 hour pilates video (SO intense!)

I haven't been able to run on Tuesday, yesterday or today thanks to the tropical storm that is just hanging out in my backyard  It was raining lightly and a little windy on Tuesday, but it wasn't all that bad, so I brushed off the storm as a wimpy storm that had been blown out of proportion. Boy was I wrong! It has been raining pretty much non-stop since really early Wednesday morning...and it is still going strong!

The roads by me are so flooded that it took me almost 45 minutes to drive the 9 miles from work to my apartment last night :scared1: At around 4am this morning we lost power for about 4 hours and it keeps flickering on and off ever since it came back.

Hopefully it stops raining soon because the lake that is just 15 or so feet outside of my front door is getting closer and closer to me and I'm getting kind of nervous :scared: Plus, I got new running shoes that I want to test out!

Good morning sweet Goofs. Last chance workout day. Biggest Loser starts again 9/16 for those who did not know. I love that show!! :thumbsup2

I got out on my bike yesterday for 13.12 miles in 1:01. Not too shabby considering I have not been on my bike in about 2 weeks!! It felt good to be out on the open road again and reminded me that I need to get on my bike at least once a week during training. Not only does it help my miles but my hip flexors love it too...

I will be picking up and piling hay this afternoon. Good news is it is only about 800 bales this time. We should be done in about 4-5 hours. Good for the hours count, not so much for the miles.

Arelys: Hoping that your lake stays put. They said on the news last night that some places were getting 20-30" of rain from the storm.

All Goofs: Get out and make some noise today. Have some fun and be good to yourself.

Oh and, get outside and play in the traffic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2

Hi all!

Yeah me. I fought back at the chaos and squeezed in a 4.6 mile run. To tell you how hard I had to squeeze - my total time was 42:56!!!

It feels good to be getting back on track.

Cecilia

H Goofs

No time today.

Yesterday: 40 minutes total with 30 minutes on the stationary bike for 7.6 miles.

Havea great weekend, will try to squeeze in 3 miles each day around my work schedule and DH time.....

Lynn

Hi!

6.0 miles in 56:58 today. The weather was amazing! Hard to believe it is August because it is so cool and breezy.

Oh and then I walked another 2 miles in about 26 minutes.

Have a great day!

Cecilia

15 miles, 2:24:17, 10:49/mpm pace.

80 degrees, 80% humidity.

I lost 8 lbs in spite of drinking 2 quarts of H2O.

Yikes!

Maybe I'm just meant to bike......

Got out for my first group ride today, although with DH and friends, so no strangers. Did 21 miles in 1:20.

Still going to try to get into the PT--although they want a prescription for it and the ortho doc I went to won't give one out unless I come in for a re-look---Fat Chance!!! Maybe my family doc can do--I need to go in for a physical anyway.

Maura

Hi everyone! Hope you are having a good weekend!

For those in Florida and Fay's path -

Lisa - 800 bales of hay? :scared1: You must have great upper body strength. :worship:

Maura - I seem to do much better on the bike. And, I really think it helps my running. Go figure.

We had such great weather last week but the typical August weather is rolling around again - hot with high humidity. Ugh!

Miles for today (Saturday, Aug 23):
Steve: 6 miles, 1.5 hours
Susie: 7 miles, 1.5 hours (1 mile recumbent bike)

Hi Goofs...it has FINALLY stopped raining here and we had some sun today! :cool1:

Did a 5K this morning, my goal was under 15 min/mile and not the last one to finish. Well, I don't know what happened but I got to the 1st mile mark at 13 mins and knew I had to keep it up so I just kept going. After that, I was in the middle of a race walker group and just tried to keep up with them, boy they can move!

Garmin says 3.12 miles/40 mins 56 sec
Chip time says 3.1 miles/40 mins 48 sec with a 13:07.8 pace

I'll take it!

I'll try and post a pic or two later.

Happy Sunday everyone!!

DD and I before the race.

It was a great day!!!

Edit to add:sorry about the pics being sideways, I changed them in photobucket and when I look at them, they are right side up so I don't know why it won't post that way. I will keep trying.

I finally officially started my C25K program.

So far:

Tuesday - 2 miles in 30 minutes
Friday - 2 miles in 30 minutes

Also, I'm from Michigan (MI).
