(If there is already a March thread, sorry.)

Quick checking in - marathon is now less than 2 months away, and I have been slacking. Just haven't been wanting to run - too much of it has been solo, on treadmills, which is a special kind of torture, similar to being stuck on IASW for the same amount of time. . . . every day.

Anway, finally got some outside runs in, even if two of them were well after dark, just me and my headlamp. Today was an easy, yet breezy, 7.6 or so outside, and it was the best run (though not the fastest) that I have had in several months.

Rich Glad to hear your miles are increasing. And hope you got the great weather we had today.....67! Thanks for starting a thread.

I am also starting to run again--baby steps (3, 4 miles). And I may have a "next race" on tap....Edinburgh,Scotland. My DD and I are probably going on a vacation in latter May, and the Marathon festival is going on then. Not sure if I will do a 1/2 or 10k.

On an administrative note.....maybe we should ditch the monthly thread and just have a continuous one. Less maintenance.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Rich and Maura

I'm right there with ya. Just started back into running last week. February was too darn busy getting ready for Beauty and the Beast.

I ran a total of 10 miles last week(3m, 3m and 4m), felt like such a slouch for only running 10 but want to make sure I come back easy and don't injure myself. Last year after 6 weeks off I tried to come back faster and ended up with major pain in my hip flexors.

Got outside yesterday and did a really easy 5.5 miler. It was so beautiful here (58 degrees) which is a heat wave for Upstate NY in March, I just couldn't resist. Hoping the nicer weather will get me motivated. I'm struggling to come up with a plan for 2012 race wise and therefore my motivation to keep running is lacking.

Maura the Scotland run is like a dream! I'd love to do that, don't think I could get my hubby to go to Scotland to watch me run though. He'd rather go for the pubs.

I'm thinking about the 2013 WDW marathon again, my sis and her hubby are planning on running it. I was hoping my hubby would be able to start running again and we might be able to do relay. Well, he's still struggling with a knee and hamstring issues which is just making his whole attitude about running very negative. So the relay idea is probably just a dream...oh well I'll come up with something.

Happy running everyone! Let's hope the sun keeps shining and the clouds/storms stay away!

Hi everyone~

Right there with ya on lack of motivation lately. I despise the DM so wind up doing something else (or nothing) if too cold/dark/late to run outside during the week. Past two days were fantastic by way of temps - mid 60's - but the wind was insane! Sustained in the 30mph range with gusts near 50mph. Walking was interesting let alone trying to run in it.

Hoping with the time change this weekend it'll be easier to get out after work.

Maura - sounds like a plan on staying with a single thread. Easier to find, too. Also would LOVE to run Scotland. My mom was born there. Some day.

I have very, very light running plans for this year. I want to concentrate on the century then speed both on foot and bike.

How is everyone else doing?

Hey everyone!

We've been back for a few days now from Disney. The Princess half was better than I thought. Apparently, training in a region with more hills paid off. I PR'ed by almost 6 minutes! And more importantly, I sprinted (well, sprinted for me) the last 1.1 miles...AND felt great afterward. My 5k splits were progressively faster throughout the race which is something I never thought would happen. It was such a change from last year's Princess and for the first time I finished a race feeling like I could keep running for awhile. Probably not another 13 miles, mind you, but I still had energy.

I'm looking forward to planning more races for the year. I think I may have convinced my husband to sign up for Warrior Dash with me. I think it's a fitting event to follow up the Princess - trading out finish line Luna bars and tiara medals for beer and fuzzy Viking helmets!

Hopefully some Spring temps are right around the corner to keep everyone's motivation going strong! Happy running!

~Nicky

14 miles in my freak shoes (aka Vibrams) today. A little warm out - 60 is warmer than I like for my runs, thank you.

@Nicky - way to go! A 6 minute PR is impressive.

Jeanne Looks like the relay is off the table--no Chip and Dale next year. So hope one of the other races works for you for 2013. And I hear you about hip flexors. My current issues are all hip--no fun.

Liz It's been a couple of years since my DH and I have done a bike tour (what IS the word when it's not a race?) Although we did cycle Whidbey Island last summer. It's hard to convince him to do a measly 30-40 mile ride on weekends! (Not enough miles for him)

Nikky Congrats on Princess. Sounds like a fantastic race experience--the kind to be savored. The Warrior Dash-type race seems to be proliferating. I saw yet another one around where I live. I'll have to find one that meets my schedule. It's the kind of race you do "just for fun", which is different from my usual approach to races.

Rich 60 may be warm for a run, but didn't it just feel good. A little sun on the face is nice.

As for me.....I ran 5.7 miles yesterday. Trying to do a little running without pushing it too much. I'm feeling it today, though, which is kinda disappointing on many fronts. I plan to keep my runs around the 4-6 mile range til the end of the month. I need to build my "running fitness" again. Even a good bike cardio workout is just not the same thing.

Have a good week, all. Supposed to be warm here....yeah!

I am in week 3 of my half marathon training and I am already doubling up on the naprosyn! Not sure if the joint pain is a side effect of the medication I have to take for the breast cancer but I am enjoying every ache and pain because it means I am still here!

Hello quiet Goofs!

I have nothing to report, really, just popping in. I go back to the Doctor's on Monday for a month checkup. I guess my strained groin is feeling somewhat better, and I have decided to run again starting April 1---a Sunday run (hopefully it won't be a bad joke!)

On other fronts, I've been enjoying summer here in Michigan. It reached 86 the other day, but has now cooled off. Still, it makes walking the dog more enjoyable.

Hope everyone is hanging in there.

Maura

Finished Week 3 of my training for the Boston's Run to Remember. I found a really fun app the made the time and miles fly by. Its called Zombies, Run! It plays a story that you are a part of and there are missions you need to complete- really just run and speed up when they tell you zombies are chasing you

Hi everyone,
Got in 14.75 or so today, in my "freak shoes" (aka Vibrams). I wasn't thrilled with it - the wheels came off about 12 miles in, but I think it was a combination of the weather (still unseasonably warm), the camelbak (an extra 4 pounds starts to matter), and the hills. S'ok - my next marathon is at the end of April, and since this will be my first with my Vibrams, my only goal is to finish with a smile on my face, and I did that today.

Hello everyone~

Took my "freaky shoes" (like that) out for a short run/walk last week. Liking them a lot. Hoping the love continues as I increase mileage.

Century training started yesterday on top of the last five weeks of half training and P90. Like I said on FB, my eyelashes are going to hurt by the end of this week. :rotfl:

On the uber happy me side :cool1: this week I can go back to tennis and my cycling shoes!! 9 mths from surgery is up!!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Quick update here, since I don't think there is an April thread yet. Somehow I hurt myself in the last couple weeks, so I have been taking it easy - and no, I am not doing the smart thing and avoiding running. Instead, my daily runs have been in the 2-4 mile range, and I did not do a long run at all this week.

But, I have now run in the Boston area. We are visiting my wife's sister and her family, so we are in the Boston area. Today, we went down and saw Old Ironsides, and the number of runners made me so envious - people here are really lucky, and must not lack for running partners! I saw more runners in one hour than I see in a month at home. Anyway, got in a quick 3.25 or so, almost at 5k pace on some decent hills - I forgot how fun it was to run on steep hills in a cold rain. (And yes, I am serious - it is runs like those that I enjoy the most. Odd, I know.)

Rich I think we'll just keep one thread...makes it easier since we don't have a ton of posts. Hope you recover quickly. I am fond of Boston--I'm a native (well, technically, from north of Boston, but close enough!) Hope you enjoy the rest of your visit. I saw a thing in Runner,s World the other day about a guy with one of the longest run streaks. He needed to have surgery, but he managed to fit in a run in the hospital courtyard outside (his daughter measured out a mile) dressed in his hospital clothing. Some people are fanatics! Don't know what he plans to do after the surgery.

I ran 3 pain-free miles--slow ones--yesterday. My first pain free running since January. I am now going to try and slowly ramp up during the month of April. Nothing dramatic, just easy miles. It felt nice to run outside, even if the weather has returned to normal from summer conditions.

Busy next couple of weeks as the tax season draws to a close. I volunteer for the local Accounting Aid Society as a low income preparer--lots of clients in Detroit. Then it will be a month before I'm off to Scotland on vacation. No running there (decided not to race), but lots of hiking.

Happy April, Goofs!

Maura

Signed for for Goofy #4 this morning! I was able to do this thru disneyrewards.com. I don't have a disney visa. I was super anxious about getting in this year. MCM sold out in 2 hours and this being a special anniversry I was worried about getting in!

Joanne So anyone can use that Disney Rewards link to registration?

We haven't registered for the 2013 marathon weekend yet. We can, but DW is deciding if she wants to do the half or the full (or even run at all). I'll be doing the Goofy, but (due to scheduling) probably won't be down there in time to do the Dopey.

Yes- there is a thread already started on this (a few down from this one)...early registration or something like it...

I went thru disneyrewards.com which sent me to the active.com website. I don't have a disney visa
