Super dry hands

Has anyone here tried an ammonia based hand lotion to help with dry hands ?
My hands have been so dry that they're white and flakey with deep cracks around the fingers that are painful and bloody.

Yesterday afternoon I got brave and tried a very thin fluid that calls itself "lotion" even though it's a very quick drying clear watery liquid. It's main ingredients are ammonia and camphor so the smell is wildy bad. Lol
However it's incredible how they've healed almost entirely! I used the stuff on 3 itchy annoying eczema spots that I've had for over a year and on both elephant skin elbows this afternoon and I'm shocked! Where have the spots of eczema gone? Elbows and upper arm bumps? Soft as a baby's...uh...well you get the idea. I have a regular dermatologist I go to for rosacea and a recent bout of shingles and he was made aware of these other skin issues I was having. All he did was prescribe expensive medicated creams and emollients.
Of course I'm going to ask him but am wondering if it's too simple a solution...if it's not sonething he's even aware of.

In any case has anyone else tried a similar product? What was your experience ?

I would try using Vaseline with thin cotton gloves overnight. I do this with my feet in the winter and cannot believe how good it works! And it is a very quick and cheap solution.

I do the same except I add rubber gloves over the cotton ones because it usually seeped through and made a mess

OP, Please tell us the name of that product that you used. It sounds awesome!
We have some serious dry skin, elbow, scalp issues at our house. I'd love to try what you used.

I googled the description and Walgreens Medicated Healer Hand Lotion came up first. it's only available online but it's out of stock in their site and at drugstore.com. It has rave reviews. I hope the op used a different kind that's available now. My hands are a mess. I tried every trick and I barely get any relief.

Udder Balm is really good too! Put it all over hands then put gloves over them for a bit!! Helps heal the cracks and soften the skin.

My DD(almost 13) has suffered with eczema her entire life. Now, it only flares up when it's really cold in the winter, but that's been all winter this year. I would try anything that would help her.

Sadly it is the Walgreens brand and I had found bottles of it on the clearance shelf. After it worked so well I went back last night and bought a few more.
I googled it too and there are other lotions that show up...my seach words were "ammonia based hand cream".

I do wonder if it's completely discontinued or if it's just out with new packaging and a new name?

Trust me I've tried all the greasy Vaseline and glove tricks and I detest all the slime, although when I run out of this stuff I'm guessing I'll have to go back to the Vaseline.

By the way if you do manage to find it beware. ALL the boxes had some damage, mostly wet spots from the product. It's the consistency of water and their screw top bottles didn't do a very good job on containment. I immediately re-bottled them which was fine because the original delivery system really was nasty. It was a flat top with a small hole so the stuff went everywhere when you tipped it to use it. You're only supposed to use a few drops but with the crappy bottle it was spilling out and then running down the side of the bottle.
I had some 3" tall new empty needle nose bottles from Michaels that I used to decant the stuff into. Those are working well.
Gosh I hope you all can find some or something similar at your local Walgreens!
I mean who knew....ammonia? Geesh!

A song called Super Dry huh? Methinks I will have to look that one up. Ya don't suppose Curtis Mayfield was suffering from a troubling case of super dry hands do ya? Poor guy had it so bad he had to write a song about it. Am I right?

have you tried whining incessantly? didn't work for me but maybe for others.

anyway good luck with your hands, I have the same problems, dishidrotic excema on the fingers and palms and regular every day dry cracked skin on the top. Haven't found anything that really helps.
