So how many bottle of sunscreen would you recommend for a family of four going in may and june when it'll be hotter than hades? We'll be gone for 8 days.

We are a family of four and going in July. I just bought two tubes of SPF 30. I figure by July we all should have a nice tan going anyways. I might get two more tubes not for sure. This is our first trip.

Interested to see what others think.

It depends on what type you're using. If you use spray on stuff, get cans of it. I swear we could go through one every day and a half! We typically use Banana Boat's Tear Free sunscreen on all four of us. It's really thick and we probably only use one tube a week. I then bring a can of spray on stuff for reapplication in the parks.

we are going for 8 days june 7 and dw just said she usualy packs 2 of 30.we are a family of 4 but i usualy dont wear any.i know im going to get blasted on this one.im a contractor and by june ive got that farmers tan.

Last year we lost a good friend to melanoma, three months before their ONLY child was born. Sunscreen is non-negotiable in our family.

The guidelines are 1oz per application for an adult. That assumes full-body application, like if you were going swimming. If you're doing just exposed skin like face, arms, legs, neck you'll use about half that for an adult. Munchkins use much less!

The five of us (two adults, two teens and a 9yo) use about a can of spray per day when at WDW. If we are using lotion instead, we use about 5-6oz per day, since we apply sunscreen in the morning and before hitting the pool in the afternoon (not all of us swim each day). We use face-only sunscreen on faces (duh), though I use makeup with SPF.

I brought for my family of 3...4 large tubes ( spf 75)for 7 days. We had little left over

I was just coming to ask this same question! I feel like I have been buying sunscreen FOREVER! We have at least 6 cans of spray SPF 50 and about 2 tubes of 50 and 2 of 30. I think I'll buy just a few more.

We have 5 people to keep sun-safe. We had a REALLY nice, hot weekend a few weeks ago and went through a whole bottle of spray in a weekend. So I am going to keep packing!

Using the one ounce rule, know that canned sprays are usually 6 or 8 ounces.

If you are in outdoors swimming or visiting a waterpark, figure one can will last you not-quite two applications for a family that size. A full waterpark day for my family of 4 will take 3 cans, as we re-apply every 90 minutes when swimming. (We also use a wax stick or an OP dab-on stick for faces/scalps.)

When just doing theme parks, you'll need to apply about half that often.

I always bring at least a dozen cans for a 5 day trip. They are a bit wasteful and don't go as far as the lotions, but they are best for us because they are the only kind that we manage to consistently use as directed. Something about the goo factor of the lotions has us subconsciously "forgetting" to reapply as often as we should.
