Sunscreen??

I have to agree that Coppertone sport is very good as it stays on and isn't too sticky or slimy. Some time ago, a free small size with standard size purchase was offered with a ring that I could hook to my purse strap/beach bag without taking up more space and without getting lost. Now I usually refill it. Bullfrog is a great option, too. For those with your own pools, it is the one that doesn't come off in the water to contaminate the water.

Speaking of chapstick...I buy Hawaiian Tropic chapstick (SPF 45) and use it on my scars that are out in the sun. I originally bought some after my tattoo artist explained that chapstick is a much better way to keep tatts protected from the sun...sunscreen comes off more easily, and with chapstick you can just draw over the tattoos. Not only does it work great for those, but for the scars and weird discolorations of the skin. Scars look worse after sun exposure and they burn more easily, so I just pull the chapstick across those and it stays on all day. It's great too, because chapstick is really easy to carry, so when my little nose and cheeks start burning I can give them a touchup. Obviously more greasy than what I'd prefer to use, but if it keeps me safe...have a good time and don't end up crisp!

I really like the Coppertone Spray as well...its super easy to put on and you don't miss as many spots (and as a bonus perk, you won't get hand streaks down your back if you ask somebody else to apply it for you :) ).

Our dermatologist recommends Neutrogena SPF 55. It's expensive, but it works well.

I recently started using the Neutrogena Dry Touch 55 on my face. It's the only one that doesn't make my face all shiny. I tried Vichy and La Roche Posay and wanted to like them because they seem to have better ingredients but they made my face so oily it was impossible for me to go to work looking like that.

Another thing about sunscreen -- be careful with colored plastic shopping bags, like the Disney ones. One year DFi leaned a Disney bag against his legs while he was taking a picture and some of the sunscreen reacted with the bag causing the colour to leak. It ended up on his legs and clothing (which wouldn't come off).

Everyone is going to have their own personal favorite sunblocks. It's best to just try out all different ones and see which ones work best for you.

Now, I am as fair as they get, strawberry blonde hair, blue eyes...yeah basically I burn easily...winter/spring/summer/fall. I have tried many products without any luck. Until I found my savior. I LOVE  the Coppertone Spectra 3 products. I was able to go to the Caribbean and lay out in the sun  without burning. I applied the sunblock twice a day (even in Disney) and never once got burnt, not at all. They products aren't very greasy and they don't have an overwhelming smell.

With it, I have been able to spend hours out on an uncovered boat, on a cruise ship, on the beach, and out in the unshaded areas of Epcot without getting a single area of skin burnt. I have never had that happen before. Maybe others haven't been as successful with it as I have, but it has seriously been a life saver for me.

Here's some advice from an advid sunblock-er. Remember the tops of your hands, the tops of your feet, the back of your knees, and your ears. Those are some of the most forgotten places, and they hurt like heck when they are bunt! Try putting on shoes with burnt feet, ouch! Also, get some chapstick with sunscreen in it, your lips will thank you. (Even DBF who refuses to use sunblock  remembers those areas because once they're burnt, they make for an unhappy vacationer.)

We go to WDW in August, and with the hot, humid weather (okay, I mean sweaty!), we prefer an oil-free sunscreen. Goes on better, you don't feel "encased" in sunscreen.

We have used the Coppertone Oil-free and the Nuetregena (sp?). Neither are cheap, but we don't burn, and that's important!

Coppertone 50. If my husband even thinks about going in the sun he burns. :scared: He lathers up before we leave for the parks and then at least twice during the day. I use Water babies for my son. He is very sensitive to creams, gels and ointments and this seems to work best for him. ;) I am the lucky one, I tan. :rotfl: I still use an "8" usually Coppertone.

Before going to WDW at begining of May I bought a bottle of P20 over here in the UK, it's a once a day sun filter that blocks UVA and B. I am fair and freckly but I do like the sun, I don't like to have to cover up too much.
I have a dd4 that would tan (if I let her) and a red haired fair skinned dd20mo that has never had sun exposure.
My DH was really sceptical about the product especially with the youngest but we used it and we applied it at least 60mins before going out in the morning and it worked. No more re-application tantrums! My youngest came home with no colour whatsoever. :thumbsup2
When we were half way through the vacation we knew it wasn't going to last so DH and I swapped to Coppertone Sport Continuous Coverage Spray to save the P20 for the girls - I thought the Coppertone was a really good product especially fast when applying to those hard to reach places, and I bought a couple of bottles home with me.
I also brought home with me some Aveeno spf 50 Continuous Coverage Spray for the youngest.
Like most things your sunscreen prices are about half what they are here in the UK, it's a scandal here that it costs so much to keep safe in the sun.

We use Blue Lizard sensitive sunscreen, it is a 30 SPF and works immidiately. It blocks both UVA and UVB rays and doesn't have all the chemicals that a lot of sunscreens have.
I use it on myself, dh and our 3 dd's (5,4, and 18 months) we haven't had one burn while using it (started using it May '06)and is VERY waterproof.

I'm going to have to look for Blue Lizard. My dd is allergic to sunscreen, so perhaps this will finally be one that will work for her?:confused3

I bought Banana Boat SPF50 spray that's waterproof / sweatproof. I think that will hold up for us. I just have to remember to keep reapplying every 2-3 hours. I don't want to get burned like I did last time. The back of my neck and my nose made me look like a lobster.

We always use Coppertone Sport Continuous Coverage Spray. Just spray it on and no messy residue on hands. After our showers every morning, we just spray it on before getting dressed. I am really, really fair-skinned and it works. I used SPF 30 last year. I had read last year that SPF 50 isn't really any more effective than SPF 30 but if they are the same price I get the higher one. The spray is not sticky and dries fast.

This stuff is the greatest!! We used this for our whole trip last June. Nobody got burnt!!!

The best part is that you can easily apply to yourself. No mess at all. No sticky hands.

When we went to the waterpark, we just reapplied after 3 hours or so.

Just a question about the continuous spray stuff.. how well does it work on top of body hair? I think DBF would like this, but i'm worried about the spray getting through the leg hair to actually protect him. Since I've heard people say they use it for their whole family I assume it's ok, just wanted to check if anyone has had a problem at all.

If you use the spray can sunscreen just be sure to keep it upright when spraying. I made the mistake once of holding it at an angle, and it ran out almost at once. Wouldn't spray at all. Now, all I'll use is lotion.

I'm a red-head who has been to the dermatologist. My dermatologist says that it's not the SPF number that matters, it's how much you re-apply.

So, buying the SPF 30 is just fine as long as you re-apply.

Now, I use different kinds, but I love the SPF 36 Bullfrog spray. The Coppertone and Banana Boat don't apply well to my face area.

Does anyone know where you can buy Blue Lizzard?? I have not seen it in any stores yet. Do I have to buy it online?
