1. I was wanting some sunscreen recommendations. Tried googling it and didn't find what I was looking for. I have a personal history of melanoma, and we will be traveling with 2 small ones. I was wondering what you guys have had good results with.
2. Does anyone know if I need to bring a type of safety vest for my 2year old while we are at blue lagoon? Puddle jumper etc.
Thanks

The sunblock industry has recently, I think they can only claim SPF 30 or 45, I cant remember. But look for any sunblock labeled as "Broad Spectrum" they are the best. Just make sure to re apply.

I bought me and my kids some UV protection swim shirts/rash guard. I bought mine at Costco for $20, "ActiveSkinz" is the brand, I would highly recommend a UV swim shirt for all day swimming like at Castaway Cay.

I think they only syupply safety vest for snorkeling. You might want to pack your own, or ask the "disney's Moms Panel" Just google it, they are very helpful

Check out the Environmental Working Group and SafaMama blog for sunscreen recommendations.

We did Blue Lagoon Shallow Water Dolphin Encounter with the kids last year with DD2, who turned 2 days before the cruise. You can hold them the whole time, as they won't reach the platform. We didn't need the puddle jumper for the beach or pool either. Too bulky to drag along on the ship. I say skip it!

I bought a powder to wash our shirts in to make it UV protectant on Amazon. I bought white long sleeved sports shirts(similar to UnderArmor) at Target and washed them in the protectant as well and used them for CC and Blue Lagoon. We snorkeled all day and didn't get burned.

If you are doing the swim or encounters, you are instructed NOT to wear sunscreen or perhaps it is to be of the biodegradeable kind. I'm putting my kids in and I am wearing long sleeved rashguards. I'll use Alba Botanica on our faces.

Thanks for the replies. I have rash guards for the kids. I need to find something for myself. Thinking I may order the badger sunscreen. Thanks again.

We are HUGE fans of blue lizard sunscreen. Started using it with my oldest dtr bc it doesn't aggravate her eczema (literally tries 20 sunscreens all for "sensitive") but now the whole family uses it. It is a sunscreen out of Australia and is excellent. It's "only" spf 30 but that is the highest they are allowed in Australia. It contains zinc oxide and titanium oxide and WORKS!!! It IS more expensive and I have to order online, but to me it is soooo worth the extra $

One more question. Do you think I would need an umbrella stroller for DD (2.5) during Blue lagoon Day? How far do we walk to the ferry?

It is a very short walk. The ferry pretty much pulls right up to where you need to be. If you scroll down to the Nassau day in my trip report from 2011, you can see the ferry and the pier that takes you to the beach. Going straight off the ferry under the arched sign takes you right to the dolphin area.

We were shaded the whole time. The short information session was in the shade, and the dolphin trainers made us stay in the water under the blue awnings pictured.

Just got back from Phoenix, 4 days in the sun at baseball games with Walmart Great Value SPF 50, not a sunburn among us. I always buy the cheapest with the highest SPF I can find, never had an issue.

Thank you for the link to your TR. Very helpfu and made me super excited for our cruise:beach:
