Sunscreen for your face?

Hi

What type of sunscreen do you recommend for your face?

I know I should know about things like this already, but I'm not in the sun very often. I have the Coppertone spray sunscreen that I will spray on my body when I'm on vacation and will be in the sun. However, I never thought to put sunscreen on my face.

We were on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera in March and in Puerto Vallarta, my face got pretty sunburned. We weren't laying on a beach, just running all over the island.

So with our next trip coming up in a few months - a cruise and then Disney World, I want to protect my face.

I stopped at Macy's the other day and bought a Clinique Sunscreen stick for your face (for lack of a better description).

Does anyone have any experience with the Clinique sunscreen stick? Would you recommend something else instead?

Thank you in advance.

Noreen

I have never used that one but on our trip to Disney last July I did use the coppertone baby stick for our face. It worked wonderfully.

Also, I guess depending on your skin type you could spray some into your hands and wipe it on your face.

Can't say anything about the clinique stick, but I use Neutrogena's sunscreen for the face that also adds a little color gradually. It works great. I have spent an entire day at the lake and not sunburned, and I burn easily.

I use a Neutrogena product called "Healthy Skin Glow Sheers".

It's in the makeup aisle, with all of the foundation. It comes in a 1.1 oz tube and has an SPF 30.

I found it at Wal-Mart last year. I hate putting sunblock on my face and I wanted to still be able to wear my makeup, so this seemed like a great alternative...makeup with a built in SPF 30.

I used this every day, on our Disney trip, in June. I applied it once in the morning, as I would my foundation.

I have red hair and fair skin. I never got burned; it worked really well.

6 days!:yay:

If you are looking for everyday coverage at WDW, I would suggest Oil of Olay Complete. It has SPF 15 in it and is great to wear under my Bare Minerals makeup (which is also an SPF 15). Between the two I don't get sunburned, and I sunburn VERY easily. Now if only I could remember to put sunscreen on the part in my hair... :lmao:

We just got back and I used Aveeno for face, spf 30. It did not sting, did not break me out and I did not burn. It doesn't smell bad, goes on nice.

We tend to stay away from the more commercial sun protection on the market. What I use on myself and my family is from Aubrey Organics; they have a really nice "Saving Face" sunscreen. It can be used underneath makeup, and you can actually throw a stronger SPF on top of it during peak hours. Check out Aubrey Organics online for more information.

The other two brands I really like are Badger and Nature's Gate. Badger makes a great SPF 30 Mineral Sunscreen that is ideal for face and body; whereas Nature's Gate offers Mineral sunscreens as well, with some great "kid" friendly natural essential oil scents. My 3 year old loves their unscented - but I know plenty of other kiddos prefer the giggleberry.

Aveeno makes a Dry Facial sunscreen. I swear by it now. I went to a waterpark last weekend and it worked great even with getting wet all day. I also have very sensitive skin and didn't get a break out or rash.

I haven't used the stick form, but I use Clinique's face sunscreen and their body sunscreen in tubes and they both work great (both SPF 30). I am very fair skinned and I have not burned with it. I would guess if the tubes are good, the stick is too.

I'm a Neutrogena girl.

I use the spray on my body (hated the Coppertone sport spray - that stuff goes on like cement! hated the texture! had to scrub it off with a soapy washcloth to get it off!). Love the Neutrogena spray! Has a great light texture (lightweight and not stucky) and works very well.

For your face, you could try either the "dry touch" lotion, the sensitive skin lotion, or the oil-free lotion. My recommendation is to use at least SPF 30; I just read that you have to reapply generously every 2 hours (even on your face) to get the SPF listed on the bottle - and how many people reapply that often (or that much?). To get an SPF of 15, most people have to use an SPF 30 or 45 because they don't apply often enough or as much as they need.

Found a really good one I have been using for years and the easiest thing to put on I have ever use. It is by Ocean Potion and is a dabber kinda like a bingo dabber you put on your face. It is completely clear liquid and leaves no white residue or stickiness, kinda like applying water to your face is all. It protects pretty well all day but I reapply normally at lunch to be on the same side. It is available at Walmart in the sunscreen section and comes in a yellow dabber.

Don't forget your lips, mine burn too and I found a chapstick that has sunscreen in it last year, I am sure I still have it but certain they still sell them. I did not even think about my lips until they were burned last year and that was at home watching my son play baseball.

Clinique has an excellent reputation, so you've probably chosen well.
You may also want to check out Ombrelle products...not sure if they are available in the U.S. - it's a more expensive brand in Canada but dermatologist recommend and highly effective for people who tend to burn. Ombrelle has a face product that is lightweight. Apparently titanium dioxide and zinc oxide (ingredients in sunscreens) both physically block both UVA and UVB rays.

I have coppertone's face sunscreen. I think I got it at a walmart or target.

Now if only I could remember to put sunscreen on the part in my hair... :lmao:

Trying using Baby Blanket ‘Tender Scalps’ Sunscreen Spray - SPF 45+....I use it on both my toe headed boys and they have never gotten scalp sunburns. You can normally find it for about 5-6 bucks

I used moisturizer with sunscreen in it. Granted, we didn't have a lot of sunny times at WDW last month. It must have worked though. I got a little bit of sunburn on my chest were my shirt didn't cover. From that point on, I put sunscreen on my shoulders, and chest.

Neutrogena dry-touch sunblock. It is by far the best I have ever used and I (along with my 2 kids) have very fair skin.

It goes on great and doesn't feel too greasy.

Have a great (sunburn free) trip :)

I totally agree with the Coppertone Sport Spray! I thought maybe it was just us, but we had a bad experience with it in Mexico.

I use Bobbi Brown tinted moisturizer SPF15. The nice thing about this product is I use it year round when I know I'll be spending a lot of time outdoors. Philosophy, which is another great brand, just came out with a tinted moisturizer SPF 30.
