Preparing for our trip coming up, and doing all the research, what to bring, etc. Sunscreen at the top of the list (along with hats!), but no one mentions bug spray? Do I need it there, or do the parks have a treatment mist to keep the bugs at bay? It IS Florida, after all...

I have never brought or needed bug spray @ Disney. Other say they have used it, depending on where they are staying and just how the bugs are. But we never needed it.

When we were there in April, we ended up with a few mosquito bites . . .and when returning to our resort they were flying around our door because of the light, so I'm bringing my little spray bottle of OFF to use at nighttime. . .

I was there there the 2nd week of May and I am still covered in mosquito bites, I would advise to take it even if you don't use it at least you'll have it just in case.

Great question - we have been many times before and never needed it - but we have never been in May - guess I will be making one more shopping trip to get some. :) Better to have it and not need it.

We've never had an issue in the parks, but there were lots of mosquito at the campsite during one trip. We were next to a waterway, so I just assumed that was the issue.

You do not need bug spray. I live in the area and have never used it.

They DID get pretty bad during that period didn't they! First time we've ever experienced a problem while there. They were those little mosquitoes however....not the HUGE ones like we have up here in the panhandle, these suckers have landing lights :scared1:

We are bringing some for the evening we are planning to go to Fort Wilderness campfire. Other than that, we've never used it at WDW.

14 bites on legs/feet last week. if i could do it again... i'd take a mini can with me.

OMG!!! YES!!! YES!!!

We've never had to use bug spray in the 15 years that we'd been going....
that is..... until last week!!!!

OMG! I sat at the pool at CSR (as I've done many, many times in previous trips!) and was attacked by some mutant bug that left huge welts on my legs! and the bites hurt like H***!!
and these bites swelled up and left the ugly red blotches! I still have the bite marks!! and it's been 8 days!
Then my DD went for a walk in the evening and the same thing happen!

Both of us have been taking Benedryl and using the cream ever since!

Either this is some kind of freak occurance, or it's the strange weather that has made these bugs so vicious!
But.... bring the spray!!

i had to take benedryl wihle i was there because i couldn't sleep since i was itching so bad. i still have the welts and it looks like they're going to scar :( some still actually still itch!! i've been home for a week!! they were like super "skeeters" (i couldn't stay mosquito when i was little, lol).

hope they're gone in november!

There is a very large variety of mosquito that showed up a few years ago after a hurricane, it is usually only around for about a month or so and starts appearing in April. They itch like crazy and tend to leave a pretty good mark on you. The regular insecticides tend to not do much to them....I bought a commercial fogger to keep mosquitoes under control on our property and it did virtually NOTHING to these beast. Disney may be running into the same problem.

We've never had to use any...until our trip last month, April. Oh my goodness! We were eaten alive at Fort Wilderness when we went to watch the movie and eat s'mores with Chip and Dale. There were quite a bit where we were staying, too. Especially in the POP Century elevators and by the pool in the evening.

We always bring it, but never use it. It's one of those things we forget to put on until we've left the room... However, it turns out that we didn't need it anyway:goodvibes

So, those of you who have been bitten...have you ever gotten bitten in October. My daughter is semi-allergic to mosquito bites (actually we all are on some level or they wouldn't itch.) However, when she gets a bite, they can large, hot circles the size of a donut! I'd like to avoid that. Her PED told me to keep her on Zyrtec during mosquito season for those of you who get sleepy with Benadryl!

We were the same time and DGD got all bite up since we had our car went to the local Wal mart and got some sure helped the rest of the week

We've been to WDW several different times of the year and have never needed bug spray UNTIL last week ! OMG we have welts on our knees and elbows, they were horrible ! I will always pack an emergency can from now on :rotfl:

Given the location of Disney, the near lack of bugs on the property is actually a bit scary. I'd hate to know the level of chemicals they do to ward off insects. My wife and I remarked about that while walking past a light post last year and realizing that no bugs were swirling around it. In any other place we have ever been to, that thing would have been slammed with bugs on a hut July evening.
