Sunscreen, Check! Do I need bug spray?

OMG!!! YES!!! YES!!!

We've never had to use bug spray in the 15 years that we'd been going....
that is..... until last week!!!!

OMG! I sat at the pool at CSR (as I've done many, many times in previous trips!) and was attacked by some mutant bug that left huge welts on my legs! and the bites hurt like H***!!
and these bites swelled up and left the ugly red blotches! I still have the bite marks!! and it's been 8 days!
Then my DD went for a walk in the evening and the same thing happen!

Both of us have been taking Benedryl and using the cream ever since!

Either this is some kind of freak occurance, or it's the strange weather that has made these bugs so vicious!
But.... bring the spray!!

Yes! We were at CSR from 5/4 to 5/10 and also were attacked by something at the pool. We only went to the pool at night but it was bad! We used a Benadryl stick on the bites for days.

I'm going in a few days and although I've never had a problem this time of year with mosquitos, I'm bringing some of those Off wipes. They pack easily and are easy to carry in my purse around the park.

I stayed at POR in April and got bitten many times by mosquitoes. I'd have to say "yes" to the bug spray just in case you need it. :)

Given the location of Disney, the near lack of bugs on the property is actually a bit scary. I'd hate to know the level of chemicals they do to ward off insects. My wife and I remarked about that while walking past a light post last year and realizing that no bugs were swirling around it. In any other place we have ever been to, that thing would have been slammed with bugs on a hut July evening.

I noticed the same thing last summer....there aren't even any spider webs :scared1: If you want to have some fun, ask one of the higher-up CMs about what type of pesticides they use. I did and it was hysterical, he just gave me a blank look while his brain searched for the appropriate pre-programmed response and then snapped out of it and said that they use natural methods like bats :rotfl:

I noticed on our last trip that there were times at dusk that I could smell a strong chemical smell and my legs started itching and I broke out is a rash around my ankles a while later.....it was like it got on my legs and then sweat caused it to accumulate around my ankles. My Wife even had a problem with the same rash one night. I wonder if they have some type of emiters hidden in the bushes.

Add me to the list of those who never needed it in the past, but May 11-15 I had several bites staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge. It wasn't as bad in the parks but I was more covered up there than I was hanging around at the resort.

Surprisingly, no. I've never brought it, and never felt like I needed it. And, that includes a week at VWL in late July.

Disney has a very active (and effective) mosquito control program.
