Why are so places using sunflower oil in there products? Its so frustrating to people like me who are alergic. Is there a list out there of sunflower free foods? Figured this would be the place to ask since you guys are so smart about alergies and stuff

I truly don't mean this to sound jerky :flower3: but I would imagine it's hard for restaurants to deal with what seems to be an ever increasing list of things people are allergic to. Perhaps the use of sunflower oil is in response to people requesting "no peanut oil" or other maybe more common oils that can cause reactions.

Actully I do understand and agree, they cant handle every allergy. The main gripe I have is that companies ( grocery wise) need to make some foods without sunflower oil. I mean theres not much out there thats dosent have sunflower oil. even cheez-its have them! Its just frustrating.

I understand your gripe. I have the same gripe with companies with my peanut allergy. I can't eat anything made on the same line or in the same factory as peanuts so that greatly limits what I can eat. Many many foods are made in the same factory as peanuts.

I think the big issue is that since peanuts and soy are such common allergens (both are part of the big 8 allergens), they try to use some besides peanut oil and soybean oils.

Now...I do have a question though. Have you talked to your allergist about if sunflower oil is a concern? I only ask because I know a lot of people with peanut allergies CAN have peanut oil because the protein isn't an issue when the oil is cooked (I am not one of those people...but I know people like that). I'm not sure if the same thing applies to sunflower oil or not....just curious.
