I have always had good luck with Nivea Oil emulsion. It really seems to be the only thing that moisturizes enough to prevent that dry, yucky peeling. (You may still peel, but it is a more natural and less painful peel than when your skin is dry.) To ease the pain, I mix the Nivea with aloe gel. Apply as often as you can!
Good luck. The bright side is that you had nice enough weather to GET a sunburn!
Another vote for the aloe!! I got a really bad burn one time (we had gone to an air show in June and stayed for the whole show - I was well done by the end!! ). I got the aloe gel and I never felt anything that soothes so well.
Its probably a little late now, but when you first realize that you have a sunburn and you know you are going to regret it more in the next couple of hours, Hydrocortisone cream 1% or even something stronger always helps. My DS missed the backs of his legs in Labadee one year. I had Ultravate with me and I applied it as soon as we got back on the ship. The next morning he awoke with normal skin color. It reduces the pain and inflamation but it truly is rescue therapy. The best thing is to not need to be rescued.
lovemickeya- We sure had a lot of sun here in Texas today, didn't we? Everyone up North is jealous.
I remembered my sunscreen today, but when I get a sunburn I usually use Noxzema cream or any facial astringent or lotion that contains menthol, aloe, or vitamin e. I've heard that all of those ingredients are good to use on a sunburn.

You are just so funny. Aren't you.
I am going to put as much Aloe as I can stand. LOL
AND tomorrow I am putting 50 SPF sunscreen all over my body.
Many yrs ago we'd gone to Florida and one of my friends (who is very fair, with reddish-blonde hair) got very burned. The pharm guy was so nice...he suggested that she take a lukewarm bath with oatmeal. The oatmeal will help reduce the horrible itching that accompanies a bad sunburn. Also, if you can find a lotion with oatmeal (AVON Moisture Therapy with Oatmeal is excellent!) you can alternate using that with a lotion that has soothing aloe or cocoa butter. Aloe is very soothing and great for your skin, while cocoa butter helps reduce scarring.
For your face, keep it slathered with a really good moisturizer. Don't forget your scalp...trust me, if your scalp starts to peel...well, yuk just doesn't cover it!
Also, don't forget aspirin, as directed on the package.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!!!
