Does the active ingredient in sunblock remain active for a year or so, or does it expire??

I have several bottles of sunblock from last summer, will we be protected if we use these on our cruise in a week? Or should I just throw them out and buy new ones..??

Thanks for your help..
Susan

There s/b an expiration date on the bottle. I just checked our bottle from last summer and the expiration date in Jan 05 so if yours is from last summer as well it should still be fine.

thanks CEDmom . I have a lot number stamped on the side of the bottle but no expiry date...I went to the coppertone web site but they don't have a contact me button...

I've read somewhere (can't remember where) that you should always get new each year - even if the expiration date is still in the future. We all burn really easily, so I don't know if it's the same for everyone - but I've noticed that the new stuff seems to be more effective. DH doesn't believe it - he says it's a ploy to sell more  - but he always burns until his old bottle runs out & he starts using the new stuff. ::yes::

Sunscreen's active ingredients do expire. If your bottle is two or more years old, throw it out. Expiration dates are usually on the bottom of the bottle.

When in doubt...throw it out.

Personally, I would rather spend the money on new sunscreen. Why take a chance with the old stuff? You don't want a nasty sunburn to ruin your vacation. Yeeeeeeouch!!!!!
