Sun protection

I am starting to pick up the final bits and bobs for our trip and have decided this year to go with something different than our usual sun protection. We usually use the Loreal pump spray one but I would like to try one of the continuous spray cans as DD does not like to stand still to get suncream rubbed in and I feel this would be easier. The problem is that there is 2 versions of the continuous spray, sunscreen cream spray or dry oil spray. Has anyone used these and able to tell me the difference? I asked the shop assistant in Boots but she was unsure, I told her I would like one that sprays on like a body mist but she didn't think either did this and as far as she knew they were both the same with regards to the protection they offer.

We buy ours in Florida and generally use Coppertone although last time we tried No-Ad. Haven't had problems with either and DD has been using the Coppertone Kids since 9 months old.

They are both continuous spray sunscreens. I would avoid oil especially for children.

Have you had a bad experience with this? Both said suitable from 6 months. I asked my mum about both and she said the dry oil is a misting spray and the cream is just the same as the spray pump and still needs to be rubbed in so I was going to go for the oil but I don't want anything bad to happen to my DD.

I like the Australian Gold sprays and also get them from the US. We have never burnt the least bit since using it. Coppertone is also very good - I used to use it on DD before I discovered the Aussie Gold and both do just as good a job. I just like the AG smell more

Personally I prefer the dry oil type to the cream type spray because you still need to rub the cream type ones in a little but as far as being effective, I couldnt' tell you that one is better than the next.

I have been using the Nivea spray oil on my DS4 and DS7 all summer and have got on really well with it, so we will be taking some with us.

I have also bought some banana boat spray but haven't tried it yet.

Sorry I missed dry oil and just thought tanning oil

What you need to look is for ones that say 'no rub in' or 'quick drying'.

I haven't had any continuous sprays that need to be rubbed in but we buy all ours in Florida.

We took piz buin oil spray with us and found it really greasy on the first day so popped into the okw shop and bought a can of coppertone sports spf 30 spray. We eventually bought 3 cans in total of the same thing (from walmart!) and it was just a case of spraying on and leaving alone, unless you sprayed too much and had to rub it in but that wasn't yukky at all, and I sprayed it into my hands to rub onto my face. We found it easy and quick to apply each morning. It reminded me a bit of p20 which I used in my early 20's, in that it seemed to dry quickly to almost nothing on the skin.

Me and DS are very fair and burn easily and we both have a lovely tan with it, the only time I got caught with the sun was one morning in the pool when I hadn't put any on, thinking the sun wouldn't be strong enough to burn me. Wrong, shoulders were a little pink!

I went back out and picked up some Malibu (I have never tried this brand before) continuous dry oil spray and have had a wee spray of it to try it out and it seems really good! It isn't in the slightest bit greasy, absorbed really quickly, has a nice light fragrance and comes out in a mist spray. I am pretty happy with it, thanks for all the advice

I haven't tried Malibu but often open the bottles in the shop to sniff them (I'm a big advocate for try before you buy - I smell everything on first ) and it has a lovely scent.

Just be aware of spraying it on outside if the wind is blowing. I once had my then 6 year old spray my back while we were waiting for a parade and it took a few days to tan over the streak marks where she 'missed'
