We are thinking about using SC airlines for our January trip to WDW. We will be flying out of MSP and our only other option is NWA - which has just cancelled far too many flights for my comfort lately. My question is... SC only has one flight per day to MCO and it will be January, what does an airline do if the weather is bad (which is almost a given in January in MN)? Would we have to wait until the next day fly out or would the just delay the flight or would they put us on another airline. I hope that make sense.

Thanks,
Ann Marie

Oh, and what's a good price to pay MSP to MCO in January. The best I've come up with is about $275 round trip, but it goes up to almost $400 round trip per person. Yikes.

We also fly MSP to MCO quite often in January. I don't know the answer to your question, but I've had the same concern. Check your rates for Airtran also. They only have 1 direct flight to MCO from MSP, but they have several additional flights with 1 connection that might be an alternate if there is problem with the original flight.

We flew Sun Country the first week in February and there was more than one flight to MCO so maybe they will add more as they figure out what the demand is.

I think $230 is a price that I would snatch up right away if I saw it. Anything less is than that is a bargain.

My other note is that if you are flying out on a Saturday morning be at HHH at least 2 hours early. We had a 7:00am flight and got to HHH at 5:00am and the line was the length of the concourse and then some. There were so many people there for charter trips to Mexico it was insane. We actually got pulled out of line so we could make our flight the lines were that bad!!

Thanks for the information. Tickets are still around $275. We're not flying out on a Saturday, so hopefully that wont' be a problem. We flew on a Monday recently and were told "get there early. Monday is a really busy flying day". We checked in and went through security in 15 minutes. There is no predicting airport check in times.

Thanks for the info.

How are the prices been? I just started shopping for a late Jan flight and airtran has been the best deal. We always flew Sun County in the past, but I'm willing to give Airtran a shot...

Well, Sun Country usually does only have one flight. With a smaller fleet, they just don't have extra planes sitting around to swap you to.

Once there was a delay of some sort when we flew them, like 6 years ago...the plane we were supposed to be on either had mechanical issues or was delayed somewhere else because of weather...

Anyhow, we had to wait in the airport until a SC plane came in...I want to say it was coming from Denver, but that doesn't seem right...anyhow, that plane then was set up to take us back to MSP, even though that wasn't it's original plan.

Sun Country will take care of you.

As far as NWA and cancellations...that seems to have happened at the end of the month, like within the last few days...AND it's only been a part of their pverall flight schedule.

I'm booked on NWA from MSP-MCO on November 30. I am not worried. The FL flights have not been cancelled and some of the issues with the pilots are being worked on. So I wouldn't worry about NWA cancelling a flight to MCO and being stuck. I have the same gripes with NWA as most people, but I'm confident that I'll be outta here on Nov 30 no problem.

Airtran...I'll be honest and say I don't like them. The flight experience was fine and workers were pleasant. But they change their flight times left and right and sometimes will dump their one non-stop per day on a given day for who knows why. So my advice for Airtran is only book with them A) if you can handle the price and schedule changes when booking in advance or B) wait until you are closer to departure time when time changes are less likely.

Duds felt his ears ringing with all of Minnesota area folks talking....

I like Sun Country and I agree they will take care of you as soon as they can when it comes to weather. Sometimes it doesn't matter who you fly if weather is involved, they are all going to run late.

I have not been real impressed with Sun Country's prices the last couple of years. They have been more on par with NWA. Airtran has been under both quite often and I would consider them as well. As a PP stated, they do change their schedules a lot and that is something you have to understand when booking them. If you HAVE to have a certain time, don't count on Airtran, though they will get you there just fine and with a smile.

As far as HHH goes, I like it. Most of the time the 1 security line they have will be backed up early in the am, but most of the time it isn't too bad. We actually showed up way early for a 1pm flight so we could check our bags and try for exit row seats. We then went over to teh MOA for some fun before dropping the car at Park N Fly..... a little bonus to the trip!

Have a great time!

Well I actually ending up booking airtran. I found what I thought was a good deal compared to NWA and SC - whose prices kept going up for the times of day that I wanted. If we end up having our flight time changed we'll have to live with it. Actually United changed my mom's flight out of O'Hare - so it can happen on any airline. I've never used HHH terminal, but I've found at Lindburgh that if you go to the security line at the far far left the line is very short.

Shhhhhhhhh. Don't tell people that! You can always walk straight through down there. We are heading to McD's anyways, so that is that best place to go!

HHH only has 1 security check point up on the second floor. It can be long at times, but never too bad. Just plan enough time. The bad part about HHH is that they don't have any dining options early in the am. They do have Fletcher's Wharf, which is fun to sit in and watch planes, but it doesn't open really early. The Airtran gates will be the last to to the right as you go through security.

Have a good trip.

Well, I just booked Airtran MSP to MCO for January and took the non-stop flights both ways...I hope they stay scheduled as shown!!!

You'll love HHH. Super easy. We quit flying NWA years ago and have taken SCA 90% of the time. I just with Southwest would come to MSP!

Yeah, it is funny to listen to people on the East Coast complain about the fact the best SW ding they can get is $59 each way...... people in Minnesota would LOVE to pay that! $118 plus fees, sign me up!

We love HHH terminal. We have flown NWA, SC and AirTran, depending on flight availability and prices. An advantage of NWA and AirTran is that they are "Participating Airlines" for check-in/luggage transfer back to MCO from Disney resorts. We always rent a car and love being able to get rid of luggage at the resort--so much less hassle when returning the rental car.

Agreed, you will love HHH terminal.

I am flying SC in a few weeks. I gave up on NWA when I was stranded in DTW for two days in August and then they lost my luggaage in Montana...I was flying to New York. Yeah, made a lot of sense to me too.

SC has always taken really good care of their passengers. They are a great airline and even though their prices are up a bit recently, I wouldn't hesitate to fly them to and from MCO.

Aurtran is good, but they have canceled a lot of my flights between MSP and MCO when I try to take the earliest flight out from MSP and the latest flight back from MCO. I've always been rerouted through Atlanta, even when booking a direct flight. Good prices and they are also good about trying to accomodate when they cancel.

Good luck!
