We have gone to DW the past three years in late December/early January. What advise can you give us for a week trip arriving June 26th. :cool1: How are the bugs, heat, crowds, etc. Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks
Joan

Get to the parks at opening, drink lots of water and take a break in the afternoon to cool off.

We have done both times of year. The key to a summer trip is to be organized and have your ADRs set up now. I find that as long as we follow Tour Guide Mike's advice, we don't have problems. I also agree with the other poster: early mornings, back to hotel, then back to parks if you want to. It's summer. Use the awesome pools as much as possible. Every time we go when it is chilly, I feel like I'm missing out, because we can't use those pools.

Our family will be at WDW from June 19-July2. We usually go during the summer. I have not had many problem with getting the kids up early to be at park openings because we're at DISNEY! We wear different shoes every other day to let them air out. Change socks multiple times during the day, ice is free in the parks - take advantage of it. One thing that surprised me was at meal times everyone was hungry (I'm starving!), but when we sat down to eat they just picked at their food. Now we get less food and then if someone wants more we get it. I have never made an ADR. We have only done 1 table service as a family and that was at Morocco for lunch. I recently went on a solo trip in Dec. and I like the summer much better. As least I knew what the weather was going to be like HOT.:cool1:

We went last July and it was VERY hot and humid but we are from Hawaii so we didn't really have a problem with it.

We too went back to the resort in the afternoon for some R & R. Although some might feel it's a waste of time to have to bus it back and forth, we though of it as a nice respite from the heat for a couple of hours and felt fresh and ready in the late afternoon for more hours of fun!

We used TourGuideMike and I'm glad we did. His advice was great and always up to date; something a book cannot be! I would definitely subscribe to his site again!

Well the last two summers we went at the end of August, and yeah it was hot and very humid but it's generally hot and humid where ever you are in the peak of summer. We always went to the park when it opened and left by noon/1pm. And a tip that I got from here that has worked amazingly (is that a word?! lol) is that we would go the park the morning after they had a extra magic hours night. Since most people are there on the EMH nights, then they generally don't go the next morning which means less crowds! :thumbsup2 We'd also try and go to a park if they had a emh morning. It all comes down to planning, as someone said, for summer trips. You just have to know what you want to do in the morning and then figure out the park that you are going to go to sometime around 4/5pm and stay there for the night. Hope that helps!

Thanks everyone:thumbsup2. You are all great with your tips and advice. It will be a new experience for us. Not sure how the heat will affect everyone. Coming from Eastern Canada we aren't use to that type of heat but we are up for the Challenge.

If you're not used to the HUMID heat, I suggest you do all that you can to avoid becoming overheated and dehydrated. The hot humidity can really get to people if they're not used to it or prepare for it. Kids are especially susceptible to the heat. With that said, this is what we did:

1. We brought one frozen bottle water per person and put it in a collapsible cooler that I bought at the dollar store. (There were only 4 of us.) We also brought 1 or 2 not frozen so we could start drinking those right away.

2. We had a water mister/fan combo we bought at Walmart for the 2 kiddos. The kiddos loved those.

3. We wore neck coolers throughout the day. Those were the best things to combat the heat!! A couple of ways we used them: (a) We put them in the fridge the night before and put them in the collapsible cooler until we needed them. (b) We put them in the freezer, but had them in a plastic bag until we needed them. I liked (b) better because while they were in the bag and we walked around the parks, the neck coolers were thawing out. Now when ice thaws, the outsides thaw out first while the insides thaw last, right? Well, the neck coolers thawed the same way; so, by the time we needed them, the outsides of the neck cooler were still very cold while the inner core still felt frozen, keeping the whole neck cooler, cooler longer. Now I wouldn't put a frozen neck cooler on your skin, but only the inner core felt frozen while the outer core was cool and comfortable, if that makes sense. Also, by lunchtime, we usually sat inside so we felt comfortable enough to take off our neck coolers. We just put them into our collapsible cooler, poured ice over them (we got an extra cup of ice during lunch), and by the time we were done with lunch, the neck coolers were recharged and felt oh-so-good again. We were ready for the heat!

4. Wear deodorant. :lmao: Nuff said.

About 6 years ago we went in mid-June. It was HOT. One thing that helped us is when you get really hot, go inside one of the gift shops or stand outside of one and you can feel the cool air. It really helps! Also, like others have said, drink PLENTY of water!
