Summer ROCKS and so do the Super Goofs!

Got my Peachtree bib yesterday! DH got 1B, but I'm in time group 2. He has offered to fall back and run with me. It could be much worse - our friend didn't submit a time and was put in time group 9! Do you know how hot it will be by the time he starts?!? :scared:

Cecilia, you get your bib yet?

Hey Goofs,
Had a 10k today. It's actually short - my Garmin puts it barely over 6 miles, and pretty much everyone agrees that its offical length is 6.05 to 6.1, instead of being a full 6.2. On the other hand, I ran it in 40:21, which was good for 3rd in my age group.

Hi Goofs!

I am back from the beach. It was awesome! AND I managed to get 32 miles in while I was there! It turns out my nephew and his girlfriend decided to come at the last minute. He is a personal trainer and she is in college on a soccer scholarship so they were awesome about making sure I got my runs in everyday. Alright, I confess, one run was a run/walk on the beach for 6 miles.... it was the hardest run I had because the heat is killer.

Back to some serious marathon training for a few weeks!

Shan - Dh and I are both in group 2. I haven't decided how I want to run it, fast or fun. Dh and I always run this one together because we have heard nightmares about trying to meet up after the run. I am looking forward to seeing how the timing chips change the race. Hopefully it will stop some of the cheaters.

Cecilia

Wow Cecilia! Sounds like you had a productive week running at the beach! :thumbsup2

I almost wish the Peachtree wasn't timed cause I've become so slow. I'm running a full minute slower per mile than I was during the Disney half. I'm really struggling. DH said the cheaters were awful last year, jumping in later on in the race. So I bet you're right - maybe this will help.

I ran a brutal 5.50 miles this morning. There is no doubt I'm having shin issues. I'm feeling very defeated, but I stuck with it and finished what I set out to do. I had to add a few one minute walking breaks in there, but it is done. Came home and iced. I think I'm gonna go to the pool today and relax. :cool2:

Congratulations, Rich!

I did a very slow 7 miles yesterday evening. It was dark by the time I finished, and I'd recently read the article in Runners' World about the Central Park Jogger, so I freaked myself out a bit and ran the "back" leg of my out-and-back much faster than the "out." (There were still several runners, bikers, and couples out strolling the path, so there really wasn't any danger beyond that of my overactive imagination.) Speaking of the couples, though, I really have to question why one of the guys thought it would be a good idea to smoke a CIGAR on a jogging/bike path. Three weeks ago, I watched another couple smoke cigarettes while in their bike saddles before beginning their ride. Birmingham is still not high on the "healthy cities" list, apparently.

Liz: Tri results???? Eagerly awaiting a race report!

I did an easy 35 mile ride yesterday for Make a Wish (70 for the team!) and swam a mile.

Today, for the first time in a LONG time, the second number on the scale was a ZERO! The first one is still a two, but I'm almost at my playing weight from high school, and that was 25 years ago :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

I'll be out of pocket from tomorrow morning until the next Monday, but will keep track of miles and minutes.

Stay focused Goofs!

*^@#$@%$ Monday folks! This week is going to be a real challenge. Lay in the supplies of chocolate!

Today I did 4 mile tempo run after doing nothing all weekend (other than hour long dog walk). I just felt tired--maybe it was being kept up by neighbors for 3 nights in a row. Or the Wings losing. or whatever.

Anyway, back to it today and it went pretty well.

Rich Great job on your race. Short or not, you are one fast guy!

Shan Hope your shins are feeling better. And don't worry about the pace--you'll get there. I know it's frustrating for you, and I can relate, but hang in there and "just keep swimming, just keep swimming" (Hope the pool was good!)

Kim Well, at least they weren't smoking while they rode...or ran! Although nothing would surprise me these days!

Mike Looks like I'll have to take over "first poster" duties while you're gone. I think I'm up for the job.

Maura

That is funny you said that Maura. We've been listening to the Finding Nemo soundtrack for several days now...

I woke up with my leg totally aching. I'm afraid something is wrong. I had trouble walking up and down the stairs yesterday. I don't think I'm gonna run today or tomorrow.

Hey all, just checking in...

this unemployment thing is not working well for me, I just haven't found anything in my area yet.

my DS graduated high school Friday night (YAY!!)...I'm so proud of him, but can't believe he's already out of school...sigh...he's taking EMS classes all summer and going to school for Fire Sciences in the fall.

I lost my best friend on Saturday, kind of put a damper on the graduation party...

I ran the "Run 4 Rusty" 4 mile race yesterday, it rained the entire time, but it was a really nice course, mostly flat, one hill at the end, and a portion of it ran thru a state park, so the trail was a bit (ok, a lot) muddy. Tons of food at the end, a lot of registered runners didnt show up due to the weather, bananas, bagels, crackers, pretzels, water and soda.

clean up today, have to take the tents down and do a dump run

hope everyone is doing well and running lots!

Quick run by...

Well, it's official. I am a triathlete!! Wasn't the best, had some problems but learned couple very important lessons so I'll be in better shape for the next one. Yes, I enjoyed it enough that despite the setbacks, I will do another. I set out to finish and I did so I am a winner in my book (after I picked apart my performance  )

Will work up a race report later.

Happy early Tuesday morning everyone!! For a couple of weeks, I still get one early morning to beat Mike and Maura on! :goodvibes

Angie, hang in there with the job thing. Something has to change soon! :wizard: Great job on the race!!

Liz, my hero(ine), I am so happy for you that you did your tri!! What a sense of accomplishment. I hope you got DD14s text. She was pretty proud to know a triathlete!!

Mike, take care and don't cause too much trouble wherever it is you are going. Yeah, we all know you too well around here...:rolleyes1

Shan, :wizard: for your leg.

Rich, :woohoo::woohoo:

Everyone else, :grouphug: I miss our daily fun times!

Well, I did my new job for the first time yesterday. It certainly carries more stress with it than this one did. Typing, you just have to be responsible for turning out a correct document in a timely manner. Now I am responsible for cleaning up everyone elses messes. On top of which the new software is not working correctly and corrupting the test model computers. :scared1: Yeah, so far, no fun. Tomorrow is another day though. Oh and the other thing...I haven't had to drive in end of day traffic for 13 years...:scared: That was disturbing.

I am keeping my miles up although biking most of them. I had an epiphany while running on Thursday that I should be biking most of the time now as I have zero races on the calendar and biking is cheaper from my simple calculations. I spent $90 every 3 months on shoes. That's a lot of money. Not to mention that you can double that because I rotate 2 pairs at a time. Sad but true. Anyway, miles are miles right??? I am updating the spreadsheet later today with all my catchup miles. Hopefully I can stay semi-caught up...:sad2:

Have a Super Tuesday everyone!!! :flower3:

Hi guys..

Liz YEAH for you!

Lisa Hope your work week gets better

Angie Sending you good thoughts and pixiedust: that you find work soon. So sorry to hear about your friend.

Everyone else....:wave2:

60 minutes on the bike today. Feeling a rut coming on.....

Maura

Liz, congrats on your tri!

Angie, so sorry to hear about your friend. Best of luck with the job search.

We just learned that we had another round of layoffs this morning. Five people, two of whom were in their mid to late 30s and had been with the company their entire adult lives. Sigh.

I ran on the neighbors' treadmill last night. They're looking to sell it, but now that I did a trial run, I'm not so sure I want it. They're asking $200 and would help us move it, which is a good deal. However, the unit has a 250-pound weight limit. DH is right around there -- and the neighbor looks like he is too, which makes me question how much longer it will last. Also, the minimum incline is 1.5 degrees. I'm a TM-set-to-zero kind of gal myself, so this might be a deal breaker. Then again, it would force me to do harder workouts if my security blanket 0 incline was no longer available. WWYD?

Kim Seems odd...a treadmill that won't go to zero incline. I would not be inclined (pardon the pun!) to buy that one. Always having to battle a sligt uphill doesn't sound like it would be too good for the legs. Sorry to hear about your co-workers. We have more coming, too...just don't know when. And to quote Tom Petty...The waiting is the hardest part.

Liz Great race report. I think you did great. You must be a really speedy biker, cause your time wasn't that bad. You certainly did the race prep (unlike me who has never done an open swim, never done a tri clinic, and hasn't yet got the wetsuit she is borrowing to race in) Well, I guess the first time should be looked at as a learning experience....but only if you think there'll be a second!

As for me...I was back to the pool this morning. This time I had a small victory, in that I was able to do my workout while wearing nose clips. We'll see if it helps my congestion today. Now I not only have goggle eyes, but clippie nose (a new term to describe the red dents on your nose from where the clip goes)!

Maura

Hi Goofs!

Back in marathon training mode. I didnt realize how much harder it would be training during the summer! I am so used to coming in from my runs and resting but with three kids at home, there is no resting ever. I get done running, I have to make three kids breakfast then entertain them all day. I thought I could just lay at the pool while they swim but no, that doesnt happen. sigh. And this getting up at dawn to beat the heat is already old and I have 3 months left. ugh.

Maybe having to squeeze in those long runs around holidays isn't so bad after all......

Cecilia the complainer.

I hear ya Cecilia! It is much easier to run when the kids are in school. I opened up the door this morning to let the dogs out and I couldn't believe the heat and humidity I felt already this early in the day. Last I ran was Sunday cause of my shin, but I was trying to get up before the sun and kids woke up, too.

And taking the kids to the pool is work! :lmao: Getting them sunscreeened up, packing all the pool stuff and food, then coming home and unpacking, putting them in the shower, starting dinner - Oh, my! Course, they're sitting down to dinner while I'm usually still in my bathing suit. :confused3

It is work entertaining these kids in this heat! :cool2:

Morning Goofs! Training here is sporadic at best. My DH and MIL are trying to convince me to do a HM a week from Saturday. Hello, zero training. Nice that they believe I can do it but I still would like to do it well...:rolleyes1

Cecilia, I have no earthly idea how you would ever train for a marathon in that heat. You are going to need a cooler for yourself!!

Liz, you triathlete you. Wow elite rankings coming soon. You rock!!! :cheer2:

Everyone else, miss you much. WISH I could be here more. Hopefully the scheduling will straighten out once training is complete for me. The sad thing is that I know how to do most of this stuff but they feel the need to "teach" me again!! :sad2:
